A new Australian study finds that Catholics are among the least homophobic people in Australia among those who declare a religious affiliation: “These counter-intuitive findings suggest that the Catholic Church has less doctrinal authority over its congregation than some other Christian and non-Christian churches.” The least homophobic areas of that country are central Melbourne and central Perth while the areas most unfriendly to gays are central and southwestern Queensland, the areas around Brisbane and western Tasmania.
