On his way into the House chamber for the State of the Union, Bush reportedly bumped into Barney Frank who was on the phone with his boyfriend. Bush didn't know who it was, but told Frank to tell them ‘hello'.
After the speech, the Boston Globe reports, Frank sought out the President and told him, “Mr. President, by the way, the person I was talking to when you said to say hello was my boyfriend.”
Bush's reply?
“Well. I hope you said how open-minded I am.”
Said Frank: “I considered telling [the president] I wouldn't marry him, but then I thought, ‘Nah.'”
