Twitterers, let him have it here. As I mentioned in the earlier post, you can also call 916-445-2841 and follow the prompts to express support for the Harvey Milk Day bill (SB 572). You won't have to speak to anyone, just press buttons. Equality California also has a petition.
According to Jay Davis at EqCa, "The opposition is working to get the Governor to veto the bill again as he did in 2008. Randy Thomason of anti-gay organization SaveCalifornia.com is trying to turn out as much opposition as possible, reaching out to their supporters with the claim that the bill is about 'sexual indoctrination of schoolchildren' – a claim that couldn't be farther from the truth. And the Secretary of Education has argued that the bill is 'nearly identical' to a bill last year that was vetoed because 'Harvey Milk's contributions should continue to be recognized at the local level by those who were most impacted by his contributions…the veto message remains applicable.'"
Since last year's veto, Milk has received a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom, and will be inducted into the California Hall of Fame on December 1.
