BBC radio hosts Iain Lee and Justin Dealey, after hearing the story of a 23-year-old suffering from homophobic abuse while in Luton, England, decided to do a little social experiment to see what reactions they could elicit just by walking down the streets of the city while holding hands. Luton is about 30 miles north of London.
Reactions featured in the video were depressingly homophobic and ranged from looks of bewilderment to a dad trying to shield his child from the sight of the two hand holders.
One young man who let his disgust known with an audible "ugh" was interviewed later and clarified that he thought the idea of two men being together was "disgusting" and "wrong". His mother was only marginally better about the whole situation.
