Some interesting spin from the White House on the situation in Iraq, even as they continue to insist that everything is under control:
What we were promised by Bush in February 2003: “Acting against the danger will also contribute greatly to the long-term safety and stability of our world. … A liberated Iraq can show the power of freedom to transform this vital region by bringing hope and progress into the lives of millions.”
What we got: “Hundreds of thousands of Shiites chanting ‘Death to Israel' and ‘Death to America' marched through the streets of Baghdad's biggest Shiite district Friday in a show of support for Hezbollah militants battling Israeli troops in Lebanon.”
The spin from Condi Rice: “That people would go out and demonstrate and say what they feel is the one sign that perhaps Iraq is one place in the Middle East where people are exercising their right to free speech,” [Secretary Rice] said. “No. I don't like what they said.”
A stable Democracy in action.
