Sunrise Montana

So I happened to wake up at the crack of dawn this morning, literally. Since I'm home for the holidays and it's not often I get to see immaculate sunrises over the foothills of the Rockies, I took a hike up the hill. Though I know shots of sunrises can be somewhat of a cliché, I thought I'd share the results, which were quite magnificent. Click to enlarge.

Hope to be back with you later today.

these are overlooking Missoula, Montana. There were also some elk up there which I tried to get close to, but they saw me and ran.

  6. Stab us in the heart.
Mock our petty bourgeois suburban window-scapes.
Upbraid our bitter cubicle-dwelling, our dismal pavement and over-parked mall-mazes.
Scorn our pale, frost-deprived landscapes of bilious dormant grass and dead leaves.

Best wishes on the family visit, very jealous here. LOL

  9. Hi Andy and Happy Holidays from Dublin Ireland.

The freezing cold of Montana looks so much more interesting than Dublin's freezing fog!

    best wishes for 2007

  11. It takes a special kind of person to appreciate the beauty in the common occurance of a sunrise. Athough common, it often takes my breath away. I hope someday you have the opportunity to see the sunrise in southern utah. that is my most favorite place on earth. every day i hope it is kept safe, along with the rest of the world. Thanks for the work you do.

  12. Thanks! Hey, is there any chance of you posting higher-resolution versions of these that we could use them as desktop images?? They're stunning.

  13. The Bitterroot Range is always beautiful. I haven't been out that way in a long time, we have family friends in Stevensville. Have a good holiday.
Also if your having rural internet connection issues I'd recommend Wild Blue ( My parents have it in the middle of nowhere ND and it works very well.

  23. Nothing takes the place of a NYC sunrise as the light hits the buildings. Though this comes in a close second.
