One Night Only: Jake Gyllenhaal Does SNL

Jakeg1_3 Jakeg2_2

Jake Gyllenhaal arrived after a drag-tastic Saturday Night Live performance at Dock's Restaurant in New York City. If you haven't yet seen the opening monologue in all its glittering glory, feast your eyes (as long as it's still up):

Jennifer Hudson had better watch her back. (clip courtesy of virtual matter)

Jake's wardrobe was the topic of some discussion. He donned a black T-shirt that was most likely a shout-out to his young niece, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Saarsgard's daughter, Ramona. The other item of clothing folks are speculating about is a green and yellow jacket quite similar to one worn recently by a friend of Jake's. Make of the sartorial switcheroo what you will.

  2. Thanks for posting this clip Andy. It has already been removed from Youtube. Jake is adorable and unbelievably sexy. He is also a fine actor and absolutely fearless. He appears to be humble about his abundant talents which makes him even more attractive.

  3. I. Love. Jake. He can do no wrong in my eyes. The Ramona t-shirt is just adorable.

  4. Gay, straight, I don't care, the guy LOVE his gays and he paid such an honorable tribute to us on SNL! And who knew he could sing! What a great guy, what a great performance! Brava!!

  5. That opening # was the best of the evening. And how great is it that throughout the whole song, not for one second did he break out of character? Hilarious!!

  6. ... Jake is simply DIVINE.. he is one of our icons... I LOVE HIM!!!!

  7. It took NBC a while to take the clip down. It had over 91,000 hits yesterday and was the number one video of the day. Word sure got around. Jake was wonderful.

  8. Just FYI: The green and yellow jacket is part of Lance Armstrong's Nike sportsline. It's quite common for clothing companies to send celebrities a bunch of their products, particularly celebrities who get constantly photographed and plastered across the blogosphere.

  9. Also, Jake and Lance Armstrong are friends and i have seen Jake wearing Lance/Nike gear in the past as well as his "manservant" who is Jake's best friend from NY. I'm sure they bought/have the same jacket.

  10. Just watched it on youtube. It is back up! Wonderful clip, and those arms...sigh!

  11. But of course, everyone knows that inside each gay guy is a show-tune lov'n drag queen. Had it been anyone else, except perhaps for Robin Williams, paying "tribute" by singing a show tune in drag, the NGLTF & GLAAD would have been claiming a homophobic stereotypical satire on gays. Imagine Jay Leno attempting similar.Clearly Jake loves playing w the Toothy Tile allegations cuz in reality everyone knows he's "one of the girls".

  12. It's also common for men to swap clothing... um...

I LOVED Jakes opening for SNL, it was incredible!

It's a shame the rest of the show really tanked. Is it me? I remember when the performers use to TRY and remember their lines. I feel like it is nothing more than talking heads not trying to hide reading from queue cards. Annette Benning was on a few weeks back, and her head was glued in the direction of the cards so much you could even see her eyes following the words. Same last night with Jake. It breaks what ever... connection... they are trying to make; certianly with me, if not the rest of the audience.

  13. Hat's off to Jake. Andy maybe now the Jake haters will stop bitching about all your posts. Straight or gay, Jake does not mind his BBM fan base. Most actors, or their agents, would run away from acknowledging us. His folks did a fine job, he's so comfortable in his skin.

Tommy you are right about those arms, not to mention his shoulders, oh hell the whole package.

  14. He has a great personal vibe. You can tell he's smart enough to get "it" without having to make "it" so obvious. Brilliant!!!

  15. This SNL openning was one of the funniest and well done ever. Jake was really great throughout. He has a real talent and comfortability in his performing that is suprising for an actor primarily known for his film work.
    He's really a star.

  16. He's very good at sub-rosa message sending, isn't he...

  17. Now that's talent!

  18. Jake's falsetto vocals blew me away! I had no idea! He really committed to that role eh? That's so awesome! Great job Jake!

  19. Andy, the second this came on Saturday night I knew this would get front page news here lol. I thought it was a great show overall, and good for Jake, at least one of those two can embrace Brokeback Mountain and not seem ashamed of it. Good for him.

  20. He is counting your money right now with sweet delight. He is boring. But the show was better than usual. Normally it's terrible.

There was a Weekend Update story about a sex study and then Amy Poehler mentioned Bert and Ernie. Does anyone what that sex study was about?

  22. Thanks for posting! What an AWESOME clip! That was so well done - and having Jake do it is just icing on the cake!

  23. I watch for Maya Rudolph.

  24. zabadak lol - it's not nice to bring in the haterade but I'll admit that I found Jake a bit pathetic on this clip! wtf? Luckily the background singers bring it all together at the end.

What's really funny though is I was visiting a few gay blogs yesterday and they were all going crazy over this clip saying "how bold" and "how it takes a real man" to do this..and I'm thinking wait a minute, most of these gay sites would never be caught dead featuring a REAL drag queen!! Those who actually hon their craft and bravely take on the stage every night for way less adulation and dough - Now that's irony right there..

For some real fierce drag queens check out these clips!
