Wentworth Miller: "I'm Not Gay"

Wentworthmiller_1In a recent interview with the Australian Associated Press, Prison Break star Wentworth Miller seeks to dispel certain rumors about his sexuality:

"No, I'm not gay. I know these rumours are out there ... I'm cool with the fact that they exist, I mean this is about fantasy. Certain people are going to have certain fantasies, if someone wants to imagine me with a woman, or a man or one of each that's cool with me as long as you keep watching the show."

He also says the trappings of fame take a bit of getting used to: "What happens to your identity, to the perception of who you are on this journey is a strange one," he said while on his first visit down under. There's this kind of star struck dynamic, I guess that's why they invented that word to describe that moment when a fan comes running up to you and they're so excited to see you. (But) inevitably there's this moment, where the shoe drops and they realise they have no idea who you are. I guess it's that strangeness, the identification with an actor, with a character, (and) the reality that you don't really know them at all which is kind of hard to wrap your head around."

  1. Its ok to be gay...

  2. I do not think Wentworth Miller is attractive at all - give me Jakey G. or Daniel Craig any day - so this is not coming from someone who is outing an actor because of a secret desire that he's truly gay.

I can aver that Mr. Miller is unequivocally a gay man. To say otherwise is a flat-out lie.

Nothing new for Hollywood but disappointing nonetheless. Have a fun time with the Scientologists, Wenty! They'll keep your secret nice and discreet.

  3. I don't know if he is or not. My gaydar doesn't go off for him. He's not my type. However, he sounds like he has his head on straight. That's more than most straight people can claim.

  4. How interesting it would be to see if gay men could reply to anything without going after someone's looks or sexuality. So vapid.

  5. Ogden, the entire POST is about a lusted-after actor's sexuality. To not comment on his looks and/or his sexuality would be a non-sequitir.

Your heart is in the right place, but, really...

Did he owe us to call himself gay because some gays think he's hot? Nope. How about lusting about the numerous gay guys out there for a change?

  17. You guys are still stuck with that rumor about Scientology and gays? It's a LIE, folks.

    a) I personally know of at least a dozen Scientologists who are openly gay. They are active in the community, participate in Church events and take courses like any Scientologist.

    b) Being a Scientologist, I believe Tom Cruise about his being straight. Not because it's any "righter" or "wronger" to one or the other, but because Scientology is a road to self-honesty. Also, it's clear that Cruise doesn't hold back when it comes to his opinions , so think about it, were he really gay, he'd be on Jay Leno wearing a rainbow t-shirt.

    c) The lie about Scientology presented as "anti-gay" was created by a small group of anti-Scientologists and has been perpetuated by Internet nerds. The truth is entirely different.

I recommend you take a look at this PDF: The Straight Dope about Scientology and the Gay Community

  18. Sad how many gay men worship at the feet of hetros when we should be supporting and lifting each other up on our shoulders. Just shows you how far we need to go. It's funny, don't any of you remember feeling different from everyone else when you were in school? Didn't you wish you had a gay friend who understood your world?

As for Perez Hilton, he's a disgusting excuse for a gay man. He represents every negative stereotype gay men who ever have thrown at them.

  21. interesting post from the Scientologist ... just goes to prove that it is just a business run using cult techniques .... all about raising money for the insiders ... and the followers pony it up ... when a "belief" became a negative recuitment issue ... they changed the "belief" ... it roped them in the closet cases for a while ... now it will get the weak minded gays who can not spot an obvious cult.

  25. Im sick of all this bitching about "lusting" over straight entertainers. If I find the majority of famous hetero actors more attractive than the very few and seldom seen gay actors than so be it! Sir Ian Mckellan might be a brilliant actor but he sure as hell cant give me a woody. We dont know any of these people anymore than a random joe on the street. So if anything, none of them actualy deserve the extreme adoration that thousands or millions of fans shower on them everyday.

  26. Oh Wenty I am so heart-broken that you've decided to declare that you are straight. What's even more depressing is to find out, on this forum, the number of gay men who are *not* susceptible to your charms. I guess bi-racial men aren't everyone's cuppa tea...

  30. Greg baby you are one full-blown blogging delusion. Scientology is not a religion; there are no spritual aspects to it. It is the diefication of money from the brain addled to the cult managers. Any cult that can claim such flaming closet cases as John Travolta, Tommy Cruise, and Wentworth Miller has go to be organizing seriatim mutual mental circle jerks.

    Posted by: rudy | Jan 5, 2007 7:46:19 AM

  31. If that's what he wants to say, he can but it's no good. I either have to believe him or that a friend of mine was lying. Sure, we hear tons of "well a friend of mine..." but this one I actually believed.

Perez Hilton's remark on it is pretty funny: http://perezhilton.com/topics/wentworth_miller/gay_gay_gay_gay_gay_20070104.php

    And I believe him.

And for the argument, it's one thing to not come out of the closet. It's another thing to be in the spotlight and completely deny it. Unfortunately, it's his right to do so.

  32. So sad. If it matters, Wentworth was definitely gay before he become famous. I knew his frieds, his boyfriends etc. It wasnt a big deal then but now of course it is.

Perez Hilton, however, is gross. He's vile.

  35. Did I miss something? *IS* Wentworth a Scientologist?

Posted by: midnight lounge | Jan 5, 2007 12:42:43 PM

  36. Don't know if he's a Scientologist. It's probably the one thing actors now fear being labeled as - even worse than "gay."

Ps. Wentworth is a big homo. It wasn't a big secret in Hollywood, according to my LA confidential friends.

Now he has a hit show (never watched it) and he's "not gay." Well, didn't say you were straight either, did you Wenty?

    Posted by: Marco | Jan 5, 2007 1:48:09 PM

  37. Perez has his own overt (and disputable) agenda...but at least he sticks to it? So I won't even go there.

Toto no one is "bitching" about you or anyone lusting over straight entertainers. All of us love straight celebs (men and women); but the problem is the systematic gushing over hetero male celebs WHILE systematically trashing the gays as queens, ugly, and what have you that is sick. Just plain sick and pathetic.

We can't deny that it's a reality, and it's even reflected in the gay porn that has taken over in the last 3 years or so. It did not used to be like that, and yet gay men always had fantasies it appears? In my opinion it reflects the way gay males are feeling about themselves and their kind atm, and it's worth addressing again and again till we find out why we can't appreciate our own.

  38. Well said Da

    Posted by: jmg | Jan 5, 2007 1:59:41 PM

  39. Da, you have to admit that the small handful of famous out gay men are not "hot" in the same way that, say, Chris Meloni is.

It's also a pissa when you have obvious gay celebrities denying that they're gay because it would "hurt their careers". Shameful.

Personally, I don't care either way.

    Posted by: Tread | Jan 5, 2007 2:30:28 PM

  40. I didn't know who Chris Meloni is so I googled him, and he's fine. He even seemed quite sweet..but no problem with you appreciating him either way.

But I'd have to strongly disagree with you for the rest, cause it's a matter of "taste" : The big muscular guy with an impassive stare does absolutely nothing for me. I'm partial to gay men in general because of that unique sensibility they're able to communicate through their eyes that make they seem able to engage with you on many levels. That's the sexiest thing to me..but again it's personal.

Some of the male celebs that I find hot: Rufus Wainwright, Jake Shears, Clay Aiken (feel free to hate lol), Ted Allen from Queer Eye, Leonardo DiCaprio, Vin Diesel.

    Posted by: Da | Jan 5, 2007 3:41:28 PM

  41. Clay Aiken?!

I can't find a redeeming quality about him. I can't even stand hearing him sing. Ugh.

Anyway, about Wentworth. Who knows? I'd love to take the word of all these people who "know" Went's old friends. I'll certainly admit that my gaydar went off so loud I got an ear ache. However, I've been wrong before. So, who knows? Maybe he is straight. Maybe he's bi.

I don't really care. He has a decent show that's running strong, makes for great eye candy - and apparently is eloquent to boot.

    Posted by: Ryan | Jan 6, 2007 3:14:25 AM

  42. The fact it's even been addressed only serves to prove Wentworth's "people" take note of internet gossip for it even to be mentioned. It's so transparent.

But I do think especially male actors should come out of the closet. Unfortunately they are mostly surrounded by a bevvy of lackeys and naysayers impressing onthem it's the kiss of death to be gay.

In a world where there is so much else to worry about, being gay is still a problem? Hell most of the fangirls think gay men are cute n hot.

  43. Thanks for scaring off another straight boy guys now we'll never see him do brokeback mountain 2!!

Plus I think he's very good lookig....are you guys who think he's not doing so because he's not white!!?? It's amazing but not suprising how gays can also be bigots too...

  44. hello andy....
many of these comments are usually hilarious yet reminders of less than constructive or productive input that i've seen lacking in programs from left to right coast that involve arrested development. yet, in a culture that has been fostering denial in larger quantities in manners that remain dormant to the participant....such as creating so many false events or spinning other tales to melodrama -- as well as viewing lacking vision due to the embracing of immature fixations.

some of these comments recognize the ignorance that has bred bigotry within queer men as well -- separate from plenty of questionable information sources. yet, reverting to the leisure time "web-cam" folly and pettiness in "why bother" time flushers -- it's amusing yet sad at the same time.

after all, so many stories and beautiful things, yet, a culture of "rear window" sadism has plenty quilling away in fecal manner, as they're sequestered in these cells of a culture gone malignant.

    amusing....thanks andy.

have a beautiful new year outside of the petri dish that is the giant LIE.

  45. Girls,

    So what......................

Posted by: Patrick Eagan | Jan 6, 2007 1:46:51 PM

  46. I was actually hoping he just never said anything b/c I knew what would happen. The people who "know a guy who used to date him" or "know someone who does" would call him a liar, Perez would see red and go for the jugular and a lot of the obsessed fangirls (of which I am one, just not one that gives a shit who he fucks) would rejoice. These declarations turn it into an "us" vs. "them" situation and I HATE that. I love my gay men and women and I fully support gay rights so the breeders vs. the gays thing is completely stupid to me. I know that I'm only one person and maybe I don't matter in a gay persons' world but that's just how I feel. I have no idea whether he is into men or not as there is no evidence of ANYONE he has dated either way (and why is that? Where are these people?). Maybe he was shooting for ambiguity to gays and confirmation for the fangirls? Most fangirls are only going to hear NOT GAY and stop right there. Not gay could still mean bi. I wish people would try and spin it THAT way instead of just calling him a straight up liar.
Bi is still a possibility in my mind but for now I will just accept what he says b/c I have no reason to believe otherwise at this point. Oh and Wentworth Miller is hot as hell, lol.

It's funny cause I used to really hate Clay's singing too, but his TV personality turned me on to him, and I discovered that the guy is cute and he can seriously blow!! (No pun intended).

I agree, they SHOULD come out, but frankly what's the incentive in doing so when our community (which plays a large part in creating the trends and sex symbols when it comes to men) already copiously reward them regardless? Why bother?

Maybe this is too naive an idea: but what if our biggest publications had a vision, and started promoting the heck out of few chosen gay celebs and turn them into major superstars and sex symbols (like "The Advocate Idol") to the point of making the closeted/has been go "hey wait a minute, I too want some of that and going to be out if it means someone is going to support me, and love me, and put me places".

That would actually be an incentive to come out, as it makes sense to actors and musicians on a commercial basis. Which is important to them. Could it happen? I think it could.

  49. "I agree, they SHOULD come out, but frankly what's the incentive in doing so when our community (which plays a large part in creating the trends and sex symbols when it comes to men) already copiously reward them regardless? Why bother?"

Why bother doing anything then? Why bother getting up in the morning?

For the kids, that's why. For the people living a miserable life in homophobic backwaters where no one successful is perceived as being gay. To break the stereotyping. Need I go on?

And, because of the religious fundamentals, who are waiting to jump in with their theories of what's 'right'. You know it's true. People need to be visible and not shut away and pushed around because crackpots will only fill the gaps. And there are a lot of crackpots in the US willing to do just that.

Wet For Went, you're the best fan a celeb could ever ask for. ;)

  50. I personally find it amusing that some of the posters here will secretly lust after a male tv personality UNTIL he comes and busts their bubbles by claiming to be straight. Then all of a sudden "he wasn't all that hot anyway" or "he didn't do anything for me" claims start flying. lol

Case in point: Hardly anyone prior to his coming out thought T.R. Knight of Grey's Anatomy was even worth commenting on in the looks department. Yet the minute he came out gays came outta the woodwork like cockroaches shouting from the roof tops how hot he is and how they'd do him in a Hollywood minute. Truly funny.

I for one always thought Wentworth Miller was HOT. Still do even after he says he's not gay.

  52. He's 35 years old, has a steady career, he's an amazing actor and has nothing to hide. Why would he lie about this? Who cares what people think about him. Only he knows the truth. As a female friend of W, I also know the truth. These posts are making me sick to my stomach. Believe me when I say this... he is as straight as any REAL MAN I have ever layed eyes on, and I know from experience. Sorry to rain on your fantasy parade boys...
