Awaiting more surgery for cancer in his salivary gland and jaw, film critic Roger Ebert faces the world and says he's not afraid: "I was told photos of me in this condition would attract the gossip papers. So what?... I have been very sick, am getting better and this is how it looks. I still have my brain and my typing fingers. We spend too much time hiding illness. There is an assumption that I must always look the same. I hope to look better than I look now. But I’m not going to miss my festival. Why do I want to go? Above all, to see the movies then to meet old friends and great directors and personally thank all the loyal audience members who continue to support the festival. At least, not being able to speak, I am spared the need to explain why every film is 'overlooked,' or why I wrote 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.' Being sick is no fun. But you can have fun while you’re sick. I wouldn’t miss the festival for anything!"

Facing a lawsuit from Lambda legal and three city employees, Bellevue, Washington says they'll extend benefits to gay partners: "The benefits, which could begin this year, have long been the goal of gay-rights activists and gay city employees, some of whom have lamented being unable to get time off to attend family funerals or pay for health care for their partners. Bellevue Mayor Grant Degginger said the City Council has been interested in providing the benefits, but a lawsuit filed last week by a national gay-rights group 'certainly brought to our attention the need to move more quickly.'"
Three New York legislators in behind-the-scenes battle to be lead sponsor of Eliot Spitzer's gay marriage bill: "The three lawmakers are vying for the claim of sponsorship of what could be a historical piece of legislation, fueling an internal debate in the chamber about whether the bill ought to be carried by a member of the gay and lesbian community or by a non-homosexual lawmaker who has been an early champion of gay marriage."

The word "pederasty" has historically often been used to refer to male homosexuality in general, without reference to age.
Have longer excerpts from this piece been released that would confirm how the author uses the word?

The first time I ever saw Farley Granger, I was about 7 years old and Hans Christian Andersen (with Danny Kaye) was on TV.
I couldn't stop looking at him in those tight pants...G-D he was beautiful!

the first time i saw farley granger was in my teens when i saw 'Rope' on TV. I couldn't take my eyes off him then, and it took me years to figure out why.

Good for Ebert - it takes guts to do what he's doing - putting a face on the reality! I wish him the best.

My good friend Marijose did special effects and post-production on the Bob Dylan film, and she saw a pre-screening, and she said it was mind-blowingly lyrical and evocative, as well as gorgeous!!! this film is going to go big and go wide, and it's going to be a critical darling, BIGtime...
