Al Sharpton Exchanges 'Blows' with Rapper David Banner

TMZ reports on a feud between Rev. Al Sharpton and rapper David Banner, who apparently doesn't like the Reverend. Earlier this week Banner told Al to "suck [his] d*ck."

Sharpton_bannerSomeone from Sharpton's office responded, according to TMZ:"Through Kirsten John-Foy, one of the leaders of the Rev's National Action Network, he roared back to the site, 'From time to time we do encounter people that have sexual fantasies about Reverend Al Sharpton, but they are always women and Crump's proposition is a first.' Then, entering slightly murkier waters, John-Foy continued, 'I am sure Rev. Sharpton would not call Crump the 'N' 'B' or 'H' word ... [but] despite Crump's personal request, I am sure Reverend Sharpton would not call him a f-g--t.' A rep for Rev. Al confirmed that John-Foy's response was in fact sent from his office, but added that Rev. Al would 'never' respond directly to comments like Banner's."

  1. Sharpton has been very cool on occasion about gay people. At a Democratic Presidential debate, he said: "I don't care whoever goes to bed with each other at night. I care if they have jobs when they get up in the morning."

Unlike the Republican debate where Tommy Thompson said gay people should be fired for being gay and every one of the other Republicans agreed. Not one of them spoke up to say that firing gay people from their jobs for being gay was wrong.

  2. In one of Sharpton's books he speaks out against homophobia. And in his campaign against rap music, he has listed homophobia as being one of the things that needs to be changed. He also spoke out against homophobia in the country and in rap music when he appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show a few months back.

  3. Wow.

"...the 'N' 'B' or 'H' word ... [but] despite Crump's personal request, I am sure Reverend Sharpton would not call him a f-g--t."

When did we become four year olds, not able to use actual words? Seriously, this is getting fucking ridiculous.

PS. I love the fact that "nigger", "bitch" and "ho" are abbreviated, but "faggot" is used freely.

  4. Sharpton also called out Bill Maher on his show for making the lame homophobic jokes that have become a fixture of his opening monologue.

  5. Sharpton loves the 'mos, and most us love him back. We're regularly left out of discussions of bigotry, but Sharpton never forgets us. Racism and homophobia are the same thing to him. And that's certainly not Jesse Jackson's attitude for instance, Sharpton is way more gay-friendly than him.

  6. Al Sharpton is evolving into a first rate political leader whose only serious failing is not fully understanding that the Democrats are enemies of gays, lesbians, African Americans, the anti war movement, labor, etc.
His support for gay and lesbian rights is far and away the most steady and complete amoung African Americans leaders with a national following.
As for this rapper cretin, we have to keep in mind that many in that grouping are just wanna be skinheads in training and beneath contempt.

  7. "the Democrats are enemies of gays, lesbians, African Americans, the anti war movement, labor, etc."

So if the Democrats are our enemies, who the heck are our friends?

  8. Excellent response, and I love the 'shade' of responding through a rep. Al took the diss and turned it around without lowering himself into the dirt. Brilliant.

  10. Dennis Kucinich is a Democrat and as well as a friend of the LBG. The recent Logo debate showed that very clearly.

I do agree that the majority of influential democrats do not do nearly enough to protect the LGB community.

Democrat or Republican - they both suck. One just sucks a little less than the other.

Better to find another party to support.

  11. ...some of sharpton understanding of gay issuses may come from the fact that he has a lesbian sister who he agknowledges, cares for and supports...

  12. I don't see any political party as friends of gay folks as a whole. The Dems want to roll back 'don't ask -- don't tell' when it looks like it's advantageous to the nation's need for more warm bodies to throw into the gristmill that is Iraq. But ask them about equal protection issues like gay marriage and they nearly all balk.

    I don't believe ANY politician.

I don't recommend folks voting for Republicans (who have gone so far as to say: 'Look, we're against you, but we don't LIE about being against you'). But the sentiment is true. LGBT voters who rubber stamp the Dems because they're 'our' party just don't see the big picture.

We need someone who thinks like Dennis Kucinich but pulls in votes like Hillary. Here's an idea, why don't we send Hillary checks, with the proviso she has to sign off on the equal protection issues, or the check in null and void? And spell it out: Gay Marriage or this check is gonna bounce.

We need to stop doing the knee-jerk thing that says the Dems are our friends. They treat us as well as they do, and shit on us as often as they do, because we give them butt loads of money but our concerns are NOT their concerns. Their concerns are getting and staying in power. Period. If they think we'll always be good lapdogs and follow blindly, then we will never be anything but they're lapdogs.

Don't buy the crap that says they're the only game in town. Don't listen to the placation, and nod and smile in agreement. We are third and forth class citizens because we let them treat us like this. And by that I mean EVERYBODY.

Rev. Al is doing our legwork here. He's calling a homophobic rant a homophobic rant. We need more of this, and less of 'but we're doing what we can' crap.
