Larry Craig Resignation May Be Coming Today
Idaho Senator Larry Craig may resign as early as today, CNN is reporting:
"GOP sources with knowledge of the situation told CNN's Dana Bash that the Republican National Committee was poised to take the extraordinary step of calling on Craig to resign but held off. The RNC put the move on hold, the sources said, because top party leaders have received indications that Craig himself is preparing to step down."
If that should happen, Idaho Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter would name an interim replacement, most likely a Republican, to fill the Senate vacancy.
UPDATE: Larry Craig will announce his plans Saturday, a spokesman says.

So then, should we expect Vitter's resignation tomorrow, or does this Republican outrage only apply to their members who are from states with Republican Governors and who are caught in, and admit to, homosexual indiscretions?

Thankfully his last name isn't Beaver.

Soledad O'Brian hosted a somewhat unremarkable interview/commentary last night with some panel experts and what it seems to boil down to is that Craig, if indeed NOT guilty, should never have pleaded guilty. He sealed his own fate by not remaining absolutely indignant, but apparently this would seem to be, in many cases, a serious flaw in our justice system-to simply plead in the direction of (seemingly) least resistance. I'm hardly a fan of the dirtbag homophobe, but I'd say this is one man that will be seriously hurting by making a very grave error in judgement, whether in a bathroom stall, or a courtroom.

Sorry, I'll use a thesaurus next time.

Let us not forget this man is our enemy. His own evil did him in.

Zeke (The Original),
great observation. it appears that all the huffing and puffing of the self-righteous repugs only applies to those sinners who transgressed in a "gay" way and whose vacated seats can be filled by a repug governor. in other words, ditto.

I wouldn't count on the resignation. This is just the GOP throwing him under the bus. Craig probably hasn't seriously considered resignation; the cited sourcess are probably feeding a line to the press to increase the pressure on Craig. Craig, who has yet to betray anything that would indicate he isn't an idiot, might still hold out.

Craig should NOT resign, yes be like every other republican and deny and lie all the way. the longer you do this, the faster the republican party destroys.
and Craig should resign when Vitter does. we should all protest for vitter's head if craig resigns.

Just a thought......how many of you screaming for Vitter and Craig to resign were also screaming for Clinton to resign.
Or Gary Studds....he actually had sex with a minor, even took him out of the country to do it....where those of you old enough to have been around for that also screaming for his head on a platter.
Sorry...the hypocritical phoney indignation of some of you stinks.

Interesting article in the Idaho Statesman about Officer Dave Karsnia, who arrested Craig,

A rising star with a great track record. Doesn't sound like someone who would jump the gun on a soliciting charge. He sounds reliable.

Joshua,
give me a fu*king break. you cannot imagine that clinton's shenanigans equal those of the hypocritical, sanctimonious repugs who work against gay equality while doing the same thing they, themselves, say they deplore. you cannot be that obtuse. wait, gerry studds was openly gay, and he had a consensual relationship with a 17 y.o. page, within the age of consent. oh yeah, you are THAT obtuse.
Posted by: nic | Aug 31, 2007 5:34:05 PM
Gary Studds....had sex with someone who ABOVE the age of consent in Washington DC at the time of their relationship.
Age of Consent was 16 at the time there.
So get your facts right first.
He did not break a law.
Craig is an evil man. Pure and simple.
Even if he was straight.
The fact that he is a hypocrite makes it that much worse.
The fact that he lied to a cop is not a good thing.
So there is a huge difference between the two... one is working against freedom and liberty for gays (for his own personal gain).... the other worked endlessly to increase freedom and liberty.
Bill Clinton also WAS NOT a member of the sex police ... and he had sex with a consenting adult in the privacy of his home after all.
Sorry...the hypocritical phoney indignation of some of you stinks.

RJP3 and NIC....age of consent in D.C. may have been 16....but taking the kid out of the country to a country where the age of consent wasn't that young made him a child molester.
But your both proving my point, you both have rationalizations for your views on Clinton and Studds.......just as I said you would.
I don't like hypocrites of any persuasion, be they neo-cons or liberals or leftists. Craig solicitated sex in a public place, Clinton used his office to obtain sex with an intern, Foley did it on the internet and Studds used a technicality to keep out of jail....oh....and Vitter used prostitutes.....sorry guys, but there's nothing admirable about any of them or their deeds.
Posted by: Joshua | Aug 31, 2007 8:34:53 PM
And RJP....the oval office wasn't Clintons home, it's a public place....and maybe he didn't lie to a cop....but he did lie to not 1 but 2 Federal Grand juries in depositions and testimony.
Craig and other's may be back asswards in their thinking, but they aren't denying gays their rights, only special rights....if you want to see what really having your rights denied as a gay person means, might I suggest you visit some Middle Eastern countries or some eastern European countries......you might find that gays here actually have rights, but in those places they go to prison just for being who they are or worse, are executed.
Stop trying to make devils out of those who look at things differently than you do and try instead to show them the error of their ways in a civilised manner.

Since when is it illegal to solicit sex in a public place?
Are you telling me that every slimeball who asks a girl at a disco to go back to his place for a quickie should be arrested?

He may not now be "gay" or may have never been "gay" but, one thing he is now an UNEMPLOYED hypocrite and gay basher and anti civil rights and hate crime opponet, but, somehow I doubt if Idaho will replace him with someone more tolerant. But, at least Craig can now troll Craig's List for anonymous "gay" hookups with all the other married dudes there, and, Lord it seems like 90% of them are,but yet who aren't "gay," LOL!

joshua,
it is hopeless to argue with a person who has no sense of nuance. so, i'll give up. there is a difference between chicken shit and chicken salad, however.

Oh, Joshua, you have made it so clear that you have NO biases. None at all.
You're clearly just a little bit better than us liberal leftists.
We bow before your righteousness.
