Tennis' Top Eight Men Immortalized in Terracotta

The top men's tennis players in the world will meet soon in November in Shanghai to face off in the ATP Tennis Masters tournament. For that occasion, Laury Dizengremel has been commissioned to sculpt the top eight players as terracotta warriors in the mold of the thousands of soldiers in the terracotta army buried with the Emperor of Qin in 210-209 BC.

  2. Very interesting, and cool! They can only do the top 3 players at the moment... they are the only players who have secured places in the year-ending tournament, the other 5 players are yet to be determined... I'm looking forward to seeing all 8 of them when they are finished.

  3. I'm confused too by the real racquets. I assume that the sculptures must be fired in some sort of kiln to not wash away at the first sign of rain or moisture in Shanghai - but how will the racquets survive that process?

  4. Is this because they're playing on clay courts? Will they be turned from China to Chia warriors for a grass match?
