Larry Craig Reacts to Court Ruling: I'm Not Going Anywhere

Idaho Senator Larry Craig issued a statement this afternoon following the court's ruling rejecting his request to withdraw a guilty plea for disorderly conduct stemming from his arrest in a Minneapolis airport men's room in June:

Larry_craig_mugshot2"I am extremely disappointed with the ruling issued today. I am innocent of the charges against me. I continue to work with my legal team to explore my additional legal options. I will continue to serve Idaho in the United States Senate, and there are several reasons for that. As I continued to work for Idaho over the past three weeks here in the Senate, I have seen that it is possible for me to work here effectively. Over the course of my three terms in the Senate and five terms in the House, I have accumulated seniority and important committee assignments that are valuable to Idaho, not the least of which are my seats on the Appropriations Committee, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Veterans' Affairs Committee. A replacement would be highly unlikely to obtain these posts. In addition, I will continue my effort to clear my name in the Senate Ethics Committee - something that is not possible if I am not serving in the Senate. When my term has expired, I will retire and not seek reelection. I hope this provides the certainty Idaho needs and deserves."

As we mentioned earlier, this means Craig could be around to plague the Republicans well through the 2008 elections.

  2. Senator Craig I Am

I am not gay with a coked up page
I am not gay with the underaged
I am not gay when I tap your foot
I am not gay keep your big mouth shut
I am not gay in a bathroom stall
I am not gay, not gay at all

I am not gay with a wide, wide stance
I am not gay in my senator pants
I am not gay with a cat in a hat
Here's my card--what do you think of that?
I am not gay in a bathroom stall
I am not gay, not gay at all

I am not gay in an Idaho paper
I am not gay please hide my caper
I am not gay in my childless marriage
I am not gay in a baby carriage
I am not gay in a bathroom stall
I am not gay, not gay at all

I am not gay with an undercover dick
    I am not gay--no, not a lick
I saw some paper on the floor
I picked it up--no, nothing more
I am not gay in a bathroom stall
I am not gay, not gay at all

Let me be clear, I am not vague
I dearly love my Mrs. Craig
I am not a sad old perv
My only desire is to serve
I am not gay in a bathroom stall
I am not gay, not gay at all

  3. I think it's great that the US will finally have an openly gay senator. (Clearly he's just denying it to keep his Idaho family happy.) He's a reminder of what happens to so many men when they are forced to live in closets, parks, restrooms, truck stops, and the woods around the Omni Shorham in DC.

  4. Very good, Becks07! Very good indeed :-)

  5. He's more of an openly closeted senator.

  6. LOL@BECKS07

But, BECKS, can your fine tribute be put to music? I was imagining the senator on the senate floor doing his Jennifer Holiday impersonation, "And I am telling you, I'm not going." Full of Idaho emotion.

Certainly, he's been forced to acknowledge his love for Broadway tunes by now.

  9. good one, becks.

in a way, i'm happy that he will remain a festering sore on the already decaying corpes of the repug party.

  10. the poor man is in major denial, pity him...

  11. of course, "corpse." sorry.

    Posted by: nic | Oct 4, 2007 5:11:29 PM

  12. His denial is staggering, and not just about his sexuality. How exactly does he plan to use his Committee positions when he was stripped of them weeks ago by the GOP leadership?

  13. through it all, by Larry Craig's example, perhaps more closeted men will have the balls to come out, rather than risk absolute shame to themselves and their loved ones.

  14. I like "corpes" better, NIC...sounds real nasty and Poe-ish.

  15. I mean "Poe-esque" hee hee hee.

  16. Becks for Senate! Oh, wait a minute... - Very funny, though. A good hearty laugh at the end of a long day... Thanks.

  18. So Craig's gonna stay on the prowl while he searches for the REAL killers??

    Posted by: MikeinSanJose | Oct 4, 2007 5:38:20 PM

  19. Please note that Senator Craig voted agains the Hate Crimes bill. So when somebody beats the shit out of him for taking a "wide stance" in a tearoom stall it's not a Hate Crime.

I'm so glad he's staying He embodies everything the Republican Party stands for.

    Or is it squats over?

  20. this gurl is crazier and more erratic than a russian taxi driver...and definitely needs his meds adjusted. but i love him haunting the GOP (gay ole party). karma.

  21. Paiges, it's time to cover your asses.

  22. Wasn't part of his plea agreement that he's not allowed to deny his guilt and declare he's innocent? Every time he denies his guilt he's violating the terms and committing a new offense.

  23. delicious sangfroid. it's as if the Ghost of Christmas Past will haunt the Repugs for a full year on. and a sweet, sweet reminder of the pathetic closet their policies implictly encourage so many men to live within.

becks07 - RUN to SNL with that diddy. I'd love to seen Andy & Co build on last week's triumph of IRAN.

can the denial of gays and gay life get ANY more hysterical?

  24. Bah Humbug to Republican Closet Cases. I don't feel sorry for Larry Craig getting caught with his pants down, but I do feel sorry for these guys...

    I'm not gooooooooooooooooing!"

  26. This is the best birthday gift I've received on my special day. For Republicans, being with female prostitutes is totally ignorable. Being caught doing something gay is grounds for execution. Imagine how much worse it would be for him if he was gay and black!

Posted by: Steve Schalchlin | Oct 5, 2007 1:51:03 AM

  27. Why pity him? I have nothing but contempt for him. If I didn't have better things to do (oh wait, I'm posting here again!!!) :) ... I'd print out a picture of his mugshot superimposed with the offending toilet and scrawl "Resign, Faggot" in big red marker and send a copy to him every day. I hope he's suffering deeply, and that it continues to haunt him until he drops dead for all of the evil he has represented through his 100% anti-gay votes and rhetoric.

I can pity the confused closet case who cannot find his way out, but not the hypocritical scumbag public figure who demonizes what he fears within himself in order to hold the rest of us back...and that list is endless. Fuck them all.
