Novak: GOP Knew of Larry Craig "Weird Conduct", Ignored It

On Bloomberg TV Saturday, right-wing pundit Robert Novak said that Senate Republicans knew about Larry Craig and his trips to the men's room for some time, but never took any action:

"I have talked to several of my sources in the Senate, and this came as a surprise to me…They knew about it. They knew that he had this problem, and it was in the closet. And it was not just a homosexual relationship. It was this weird conduct. They didn’t do anything about it. So Republicans, again, as in the case of Congressman Foley, their cover-up is coming back to haunt them."

Odds are there are more Craigs and Foleys out there. It's only a matter of time.

SNL's "Weekend Update" also took on the Larry Craig debacle over the weekend. Enjoy.

  1. Novak is such a prick.

Craig "had this problem and it was not JUST a homosexual relationship".

It's amazing to me what passes as educated, enlightened and respected journalism these days!

  2. It is simply delicious that we'll have the senator from Idaho around to remind all the voters of the sanctimonious/creepy wing of the GOP.

  3. With all of the scandals in the GOP, this really is going to be a fun election season! :)

  4. Novak is hardly gay friendly, but I believe he meant that Craig was a hypocrite/scandal waiting to blow up in the face of the GOP--but we've seen with gay political scandals lately that there is typically a twist: underage pages, boyfriends in high places, public sex. In other words, the gay underground is safe as long as there isn't any legal/political danger. For the sake of the GOP, Novak should out the other gays in Congress (Lindsey Graham? Drier? etc.)

  7. seth meyers is a cutie. i like that impish smile of his. SNL does these things right.

P.P., i think that bloated, sweaty, oily, traitorous, plame-outing, mess (novak) was speaking figurativly. and, zeke, i hope that what novak said about this being "... not just a homosexual relationship," was meant to imply that the real scandal lay in the "weird" behavior and the on-going cover-up by the repugs so as not to endanger one of their safe seats.

  9. Novak has a point. Craig has been hitting on men for years and doing it in places like public bathrooms. There is an "in-joke" in Senate circles about not going to the mens room when "Fairy Larry" is in there (that's one of Craig's nicknames--behind his back). True! A friend who works in DC says that Craig's predilection for risky sex is an open secret. Republicans have a lot of "open secrets" where gay sex is concerned. It's really odd that the media has never picked up on any of this.
