News: Kelly Rowland, Sundance, Vermont, Johnny Weir, Florent
L.A. Times columnist asks why The Kite Runner, and its controversial boy-rape scene wasn't included in the GLAAD awards. Maybe because sexual orientation had nothing to do with it.

Channing Tatum recruited for GI Joe film: "The 27-year-old modern-turned-actor will play Duke, a field commander and second-in-command of the G.I. Joe Team after Hawk. Other actors signed on: Sienna Miller as The Baroness, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaj (Lost) as Heavy Duty, Rachel Nichols (Alias) as Shana ‘Scarlett’ O’Hara and Marlon Wayans as Ripcord. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (3rd Rock From the Sun) is also in negotiations to join the project."
Randy Lovely promoted to editor of The Arizona Republic, making him the nation's only openly gay editor of a major U.S. newspaper: "Lovely says he has never hidden his sexual preference, but is not among the most outspoken gay rights activists. 'There are many others who are much more involved. I support them, but I am not on the leadership,' he says of his NLGJA membership. 'I have not had to be anything other than what I am. I can't be the one to tell anyone they have to be out. But it is not something I am afraid of.'"
New York meatpacking staple Florent, which I did a long photo piece on two years ago, may be closing...

Johnny Weir ties with Evan Lysacek at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships but Lysacek wins for skating better in the free skate: "First place, second place, last place, I'm just happy with the way I skated. I was so nervous, and it's fantastic vindication to know I came back and didn't completely fall apart. I feel like a winner."
Keith Olbermann would trade personal success for a decent president: "I think this has been a disastrous presidential administration. I would have given what I have, in terms of broadcasting success in the nature of this newscast, I would have easily said…if I were given the choice of this or some responsible presidency in the last four years or eight years? I would have taken a responsible presidency."
Gay ordained Presbyterian minister Brian Webb-Mitchell shares tips for gay parents in new book: "I wrote the book because there was nothing out there that was pro-gay, pro-child, pro-family and pro-Christian. The books that dealt with gay parenting and Christianity were not very pro-Christian. If anything, they steered people toward the United Church of Christ and away from Catholic and Evangelical churches."
Adrian Grenier brings along his own little entourage.

New board game created by son of Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and U.S. Magistrate Judge Gary Sebelius set inside a prison is called "Don't Drop the Soap": "Fight your way through 6 different exciting locations in hopes of being granted parole. Escape prison riots in The Yard, slip glass into a mob boss' lasagna in the Cafeteria, steal painkillers from the nurse's desk in the Infirmary." And whatever you do, avoid those gays in the shower room!
"Pro-family" conservatives in Arkansas launch drive to stop unmarried couples from adopting or becoming foster parents. Jerry Cox, president of the Arkansas Family Council Action Committee: "Anyone who tells you that this initiated act is only about gay adoption is not telling you the whole story. Anyone who will tell you, though, that gay adoption has nothing to do with this act wouldn’t be telling you the whole story, either."
Sundance Film Festival winners announced...

Work: Kelly Rowland is proud as a peacock at G-A-Y.
Gay Miller Brewing executive Vic Milford shot and killed in Milwaukee robbery: "'At this time, this is a company grieving the tragic loss of one of its dearest employees,' [a Miller spokesman] said, in a statement. 'The immediate impact of this loss is being felt most by the family and friends of Vic Milford. And out of respect for the Milford family, we believe our attention is best served by caring for those most affected by this horrible tragedy.' Milford, a citizen of South Africa, had lived in Milwaukee since taking the Miller Brewing job in February 2005, Green said, and previously worked for SABMiller since 2002. Milford is survived his parents, who are residents of Zimbabwe, a sister in Australia and a man described as Milford's life partner, who lives in South Africa, according to a Miller statement."
Carol Channing is a robber magnet!
Gay Vermont legislator Jason Lorber moonlights as a stand-up comic: "When I first came here, people said 'You're the first comedian to come to the Statehouse.' I say 'I'm the first PROFESSIONAL comedian to come to the Statehouse'...Politics is about changing society and trying to make the world a better place. And performing makes me feel so alive. I love the creative aspect of it...Growing up, I never pictured myself being with a gay guy. Now, I've come to realize that I could never be happy being with a straight guy."
L.A. Times columnist: FOX News host John Gibson should lose his platform over Heath Ledger remarks.

Keith Olbermann is so full of shit. I love him and his rants, but he should be thanking Bush and his administration for giving him a platform for fame. It's so easy to sit there now and say what is posted above... seriously, how dumb does he think people are?

This post was about other stuff, I know, but I can't scroll past the picture of Channing Tatum looking like "Trucker No. 3" in a porn flick... I'm gonna need a moment alone.

ooooooo babeeeeeeeee, i kneel before tatum, taking my rightful place between his thighs, falling in abject worship of his magnificent glorious stud, this manly epitome of impeccable machismo.. this...oh god, the smelling salts please, mary...

JUNIOR, you're so right. I don't know about "Trucker NO. 3" but I love this photo of Channing (never heard of him till today) He just sittin' up in that chair like a natu'al man...legs all cocked apart...strong shoulders and biceps...lookin' like he'll spank you if you don't act right...smellin' like beer and urine. Gracious, I'm starting to lubricate...somewhere. That West Coast vixen, THE QUEEN, has had a powerful influence on me.

It'll suck if we lose Florent, love the place. The food is not great but cool atmosphere. Channing Tatum is the hottest guy on the planet, Derrick some films I can recommend,in order: She's the Man, Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Step Up...not the best actor (or the best films) but he is hotter than hell.
Posted by: Davey | Jan 28, 2008 1:40:35 PM
Well, I'll be damned. QUEEN, you got here before I did. You don't supposed we'd resort to physical battle over something looking like Channing does in that GI outfit ("outfit"?--well, what do you expect)
Come on, Sis, we're too old to be fighting over men. And I gotta' feeling your checking account is much bigger than mine, so you win.
But then again, you're married! You've gotta' man. Hey, wait till JORDAN gets a look at Channing in that GI Joe stuff.

Channing Tatum and his dumbo ears are fucking ugly.

FLORENT......YOU HAVE DONE SO MUCH FOR THE GAY COMMUNITY...TOO MUCH TO SAY HERE....JUST THAT THE LAST OF THE ICONS LEAVES MY NEIGHBORHOOD....I HOPE HE MAKES A DEAL WITH THE OWNERS...THE FOOD IS FABULOUS THERE
OH MAN THIS IS SAD NEWS!!!

Maybe GLAAD didn't include Kite Runner because that movie was awful. Put me to sleep. Big disappointment.

Dear Sweet Jesus... not another movie based on a Hasbro toy line...

"...The books that dealt with gay parenting and Christianity were not very pro-Christian. If anything, they steered people toward the United Church of Christ and away from Catholic and Evangelical churches..."
What the hell is THAT supposed to mean?
I don't really understand what he means by that but as a member of the United Church of Christ I take exception and offense to what it sounds like he's saying.
Besides, I think this man has some more growing up to do as a gay man before he dives head first into teaching his children about what it means to be gay. Anyone who shows their children "In and Out", "Will and Grace" and "Prisilla Queen of the Desert" in order to show them "what it means to be a gay man" is seriously whacked. Maybe he should throw in a showing of "Cruising" to round out the stereotype.
Ugh. This man really rubbed me the wrong way.

re: The Arizona Republic first gay editor "Lovely says he has never hidden his sexual preference"... um, maybe he couldn't because his name was RANDY LOVELY? Just sayin'...
As for John Gibson, the only inference one can make from his "joke" is that the only thing almost as funny as a DEAD FAG is A DEAD ACTOR WHO PLAYED A FAG.
Contact Fox News and ask its representatives why they continue to provide a platform for John Gibson's cruel and tasteless comments.

Johnny Weir was robbed I dont get the new scoring system. From what I saw he was 100% better than Evan. Right before Johnny took the ice he was in first place i thought then he gets the same score as Evan and all of a sudden its a tie and Evan wins the title? I dont get it at all!

The article about Channing Tatum (what a girl name btw) is a "modern-turned-actor." A modern what turned actor? A modern dance instructor?

Keith Olberman has been on the air for years, and, was pretty big in L.A. when he did the sports, so, this new gig is only showing the rest of the country his great wit and how he plays it the same way Fox Noise does, only he tells the truth.
Posted by: Sebastian | Jan 28, 2008 3:40:17 PM
This could have happened under the old system as well under slightly different circumstances. Ties have always been broken by who places higher in the free skate because it's a longer, more content filled program. Johnny was second in that segment, so he was second overall. I agree that Johnny's program was prettier and cleaner, but portions of it (spins and footwork) were less difficult and have been all season. To be fair, knowing this he could have ratcheted them up in advance. He also did one fewer combination jumps than Evan. If he added one more double after a triple, he would have won. That small margin made the difference.
