Ne-Yo's Mom Will Kick Your Ass for Calling Him Gay

Neyo

R&B singer/songwriter Ne-Yo has now denied being gay for a third time, in an interview this month in Essence Magazine. Ne-Yo, who has written songs for Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Rihanna, says that just because he can "respect a woman's shoe game" doesn't make him gay.

Essence.com: Fortunately, your mom encouraged you to get a blood test done. You’ve said that your mom always looks out and was even ready to knuckle up when rumors first surfaced about you being gay.

N.Y.: (Laughs) Yeah, my mom is my dawg. When she heard the rumors that I was gay she was like, ‘Who do I have to pay a visit? Who’s a-- do I have to kick?’

Essence.com: And your initial reaction to folks questioning your sexuality?

N.Y.: Honestly, when I first heard that there were rumors out there about me being gay I thought, Wow someone must really hate me. There’s nothing wrong with being gay, but I just couldn’t understand why someone would make up lies like that. I remember speaking to Jay-Z about it and he was like, ‘Look, man you haven’t made it until someone says you’re gay.”

Essence.com: And what about now?

N.Y.: Nah, I don’t even think about that mess anymore. Once it’s said, it ain’t nothing you can do but ignore it.

Essence.com: Once you addressed the rumor that you and Hayden Panettiere (the cheerleader from Heroes) were dating and offered an explanation as to why there were photos of the two of you hand-in-hand—you were helping her out of her car so she wouldn’t mess up her shoes—they really continued with the gay comments.

N.Y.: (Laughs) Okay, so because I can respect a woman’s shoe game, and not to mention that I’ve bought a few pairs of shoes in the past for the women in my life, that makes me gay? That’s hilarious.

  1. Alright here is something for all bloggers no more speculation of who is gay. If they do not come out and say it then it is not real. Stop asking these ridiculous questions and making stupid comments. It is so very of the lowest common denominator.

Are we as a gay community that much a "star fucker" that we "need" someone to be gay.

We support countless porn sites that advertise itself "gay for pay". We are willing to throw our money at the GREAT pretenders and then once someone does come out we walk away from them hunting for the next one.

Also by supporting the "gay for pay" websites especially with porn we are telling ALL that we are not comfortable with being gay and we have to make a fetish out of a "straight man". It is really sad and pathetic to a large degree.

  2. It's more sad and pathetic to suggest that speculating that someone is gay is a bad thing, as if it's the worst possible thing someone could be. That's such a self-loathing perspective. And it's worse for a celebrity to sugggest that being gay is a bad thing by continuing to repeat it, as Ne-Yo has here. I completely disagree with you Charles. Ne-Yo and others who continue to deny they are gay draw attention to it themselves and propogate the idea that being gay is a BAD THING.

  3. Anyone who has the nerve to have a drag name like Ne-yo is going to try and kick someone's azz for calling him gay? Well, try to kick my since I would if I had any clue as to who you are! Sorry for your insecurity about being a man, but, change that name and, who wants you gay to begin with???

That said, some of these gossip hounds need to leave the speculation about these silly young men and how they get their freak on alone, since most aren't real men enough to ignore it.

  5. Being "gay" is a "bad thing" for them. Also he is young and tackling such a question is hard for anyone who wants it to be private. What would you have him say, "being gay is the GREATEST thing in the world but I am not gay, I wish I were because I would be so cool and have so many cool gay friends, I could go on and on but I am not gay". No matter what he says the gay press/gay bloggers would find something to ink about that would make him look worse.

How would you like to be asked if you are straight, if you are in an open relationship like so many gays, asked if you are 10lbs heavier than you are?

These guys are in a no win situation because you have to answer the question in a manner that will put some of it to rest. Look at how the gay community views Ricky Martin and Clay Aiken everyone "knows" that they are gay there are website devoted to it.

It is far better to piss off the gays rather than his black community and straight white male wanna be hip hop clones. It should not be asked at all it is a very disgusting and immature question for 2008.

  6. I think this article really shows the generational difference.

If I were straight I would not want to be known as gay because it would limit my options for women.

    Think about it.

If you are gay you don't want other gay men to think you are straight because it limits your potential dating options.

His mother is at least 15-20 years older than him.

In the old days being gay was an insult. It is no longer.

He did not react like it was an insult but his mother did.

    It shows the positive change.

Look at how Tom Cruise handles the gay rumors verses Ricky Martin and Clay Aiken.

Tom Cruise sues people because he is older and thinks of it as an insult. Ricky and Clay don't.

  7. His lips sure look gay. Delicious.

  8. Tom Cruise sues people because he thinks it will hurt his career. Ricky doesn't because he realizes it helps his career. Clay is just an idiot, and certainly doesn't embrace it as much as Ricky does.

And I don't care for any of their "artistic output," though Ricky can be super hot.

  9. I personally don't really care if Ne-yo , pronounced (NEO),(as in Keanu on "The Matrix")- is gay. Whether he is straight or gay, is none of our business. With the way sexual expression comes across in society though, I can't say that its uncommon for anyone to wonder about another's sexual orientation. You never can tell. He writes great music and is extremely talented.

However, being black and gay is sort of taboo still. Being on the DL is still something that some black men use to justify their same sex feelings. So at the end of the day, It's all stereotypical... those tendencies, and you know the bad thing about that, not all of those pesky stereotypes are true.

  10. What's a Ne-Yo?

  11. I just say he's gay because of his voice when he sings...

  12. This dude has no chance. I know some of his songs, and he's an ok, syrupy baby hip hop singer, but is quite successful writing hit songs for some big performers at such a young age. He's obviously got a mother who is terrified of gays, due to a number of reasons I can only speculate about (but could easily guess). If you expect him to "come out" with a mother like that, you have another thing coming.

I have no idea where the "gay" rumors about this boy came about, but I hope if it's true, someone will give him the advice and support he needs, and if he's not, he knows enough just to leave the topic alone. Lord knows with a mother like that, he's going to need some help.
