T.R. Knight Steps Out with New Beau Mark Cornelsen

T.R. Knight showed off his new boyfriend at Elton John's Oscar party, Just Jared reports. Both were beaming for the camera.

Cornelsen was a 2007 Matthew Shepard Point Scholar and serves on the Point Foundation's youth Advisory Council. There's a bio on him at the Point Foundation.

There's also a YouTube clip AFTER THE JUMP...

These two seem like a happy pair. Best of luck to them.

  1. There is easily 15 years age difference between the two of them. Interesting. Still, cute couple - best of luck to them.

  2. Well Edgar, it will be easier for TR to dress him up in diapers for role play. Yikes, that creeps even me out!

  3. At least 16 years, actually, and it could easily be 17 or 18 years difference. Corneson is a college freshman, and TR is 36. That big of an age diff can work if people are in their 30s/40s/50s, but not when one of them is like 19 or 20. That's just a kid. Weird....

  4. Carl - My partner and I met when I was 21.
He was 42. It's 22 years later and we're still together. And no one who knows us thinks it's "weird".

  5. Cute kid. Yeah, his bio says that he graduated a year early and started college as a freshman last fall - so is he even 18?

  6. Yo bitches! Demi Moore is gettin' away with it and that seems to be perfectly FINE!

  7. This is deja vu all over again. We Towleroadies just went through this "importance of age difference" discussion. I revealed that I met my partner when I was 21 and he was 36, yet we are still together 30 years later. Sixteen to eighteen years difference is a great but not insurmountable chasm, if both partners are mature for their years.

That is not patting myself on the back but an acknowledgment of the reality that it takes a great deal of work to make any relationship last. A large age difference is a further complicating factor.

Unfortunately, MC's hesitant and inarticulate answers (on a taped interview, no less), repeated use of "I feel like," and, worse yet, using "tolerable" when he meant "tolerant" indicates to me that he is far too young to be in a relationship with someone so much older.

They are undeniably cute together and I hope they have fun. I fear, however, that one or both is inevitably going to get hurt terribly.

  9. Why do gays think they are therapists? Taking the time to "analyze" every little nuisance of a taped interview; finding out these guys ages and determining the difference.

Is there any wonder why gay men do not come out of the closet?

On the surface the gay community presents itself in a certain way (accepting of all races, body types, economic status etc) but in truth it is a far more sinister place than its members care to share.

"Being gay is not an identity' that's the bottom line. It's a sideline. But through no one's fault and everybody's fault, it's become a subject for identity, so you run away from mainstream culture into a kind of offbeat culture, and then the offbeat culture becomes a little mainstream culture of its own - just as brutal, actually, as the culture you thought you were leaving behind."- Rupert Everett

  10. Jesus Christ what a little queer yuck!!!!. They both must be fighting for Bottom. I think I'm going to be ill.

  11. Rudy stole my thunder - I swear the first thing I thought when I watched the clip is "He's incredibly inarticulate, and is simply rehashing tried and true platitudes that are more or less devoid of any meaningful content."

But, of course, he is only 18 years old or so - not that one can't/shouldn't be articulate at 18, but he strikes me (based on the clip only, I admit) as being relatively new to the whole "thinking critically about sexuality" thing. I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean he's new to the whole "thinking critically in general" thing, but I suspect the two go hand in hand.

On a personal note, as someone who's frequently approached by gentlemen around 18 years of age (I'm 27, and a grad student, thus still in college, in a sense), I have to say that I'm hesitant, both on a metaphysical level and a purely practical one. Metaphysical because, for example, the younger men are often simply not sure of who they are yet. This is perfectly fine, of course, and wholly appropriate, but it's not something I'm looking for in a partner. I'm hesitant in a purely practical sense because, well, sometimes I'd like to go dancing at a bar with my boyfriend. Is that too much to ask?

  12. Maybe they're just fucking each other? Goddamn, just because they're photographed together at a party doesn't mean they're getting married tomorrow.

  13. all i can say is, have a great time with each other, and ignore the nay sayers.

  14. Charles, Your Freudian slip just made my day! I believe that you wanted to criticize me for analyzing every little 'nuance' but I absolutely agree that the video interview contained every little "nuisance".

  15. I'm so very glad that after checking back a while later I wasn't the only one that took notice of the little dumpling's ersatz interview. He's cute, albeit a bit boring...just like TR. I hope their date went well, but let's not be hasty, folks. There is no homemade porn scandal. Yet?

    Posted by: FizziekruntNT | Feb 26, 2008 11:28:17 AM

  16. Ooooooh -- now THAT's a video I would watch!!!

    Posted by: carl | Feb 26, 2008 11:43:57 AM

  17. TR is just doing what loads of his hetero acting contemporaries do... Now that he's a big, famous actor everyone is willing to overlook the fact that he is isn't that cute, isn't very interesting, and is probably self obsessed. So, why not take that new found fame and use it to get the gal (or in this case, chick(en)) they could never get while in high school. The only shock here is why people think TR is that hot to begin with. Come on... he's a bloated, pasty mess!

Sounds like you're talking about Obama.

  19. @DC8Stretch:

Funny you should say that - I did, in fact, caucus for Hillary. :)

  20. re: The age difference, et al.

I think you're all forgetting one big thing here - he's dating an actor.

    Enough said. :-)

  21. Why the fuck are you people ragging on TR Knight? What the hell is it about him that pisses you off? He comes off as a sweet, gentle, talented man. You bitches will get moist at the sight of Justin Timberlake, Jake Gyllenhall, David Beckham, and every other heterosexual megastar par excellence, even if they're ugly as sin from the inside out. I think that TR looks great, and his boyfriend is cute as well.

  22. "using 'tolerable' when he meant 'tolerant' indicates to me that he is far too young to be in a relationship with someone so much older."

I think that is probably true in this case. However I must say I know 3 young successful gay guys in the DC area - more like 23-28ish - who are dating men 10 to 25(!) years older than them. In every case the younger man totally has his act together: graduate degree, good paying job, security clearance, etc. So I think for some gay men they know that what's good _for them_ is an older companion. Of course this is a small minority of 20-something gay men. But it's worth noting that the stereotype of these relationships (confused, drug-addled young wastrel seeking older sugar daddy to exploit) is not always true.
