Y’know, thatwas just too cute for words. I think Steve and Jonathan did a fantastic job with the Tango. Well done, gentlemen, well done.

No kiss at the end? Afraid I’ll have to go with Zoomanity’s version.

Still, that was awfully cute, and definitely worth the ribbing they’ll likely take for it.

I didn’t see the show and don’t think “cute” is quite the word to describe it. It is, however, historically correct, though out of context culturally. Despite legends about the Tango originating in
Argentine brothels where the customers’ booted spurs dragged on the carpets, male/male dancing on the pampas was/is common. A few years ago i saw a documentary someplace showing 2 rough-looking gauchos perform a completely hot tango on a large piece of plywood somewhere in a cattle camp, accompanied by guitar, fiddle and whatever that Argentine button-box accordion is called.
They probably weren’t quuer but everybody was thoroughly into it, and eroticism in Tango is unavoidable. Like sex, it’s dirty –if it’s done right.

That could have been so much worse. There was a little bit of the “Oh, look how I can pretend to be a girl” followed by “I’m really a lot more macho than this, you know?”, but it could have been so much worse. Imagine what Jay Leno would have done with it.

You have two men (semi-stars) holding hands and doing a sexual dance on one of America’s top-rated shows, and not acting like it was disgusting or painful. And they received a standing ovation.

I would never watch the show, but I give it credit for doing this without an “Ewww, gross aspect.” Sure, they camped it up a little, but it was surprisingly straightforward. Give them some credit.

Well, i don’t know about any of you, but I would Tango-or fox trot, or even ccharleston- with Jonathan Roberts. i think he is hot, hot, HOT, even with the somewhat nasty looking rug. Seriously, you all need to get over yourselves. This was a momentous occasion, but because they are both presumably straight, it was comic?

  8. nic says

@GREGORY BROWN, your damn straight on that. american cowboys danced together back in the day when women were at a premium, and male mexican campesinos still do it in the cantinas where few women (and no “good” woman) will be seen. given enough alcoholic attitude adjustment, everything is possible.

i didn’t find anything negative in this.

At least Jonathan’s rug looks better this season, MDTOPDAD, but yes, it was comic because they were both having fun and thank Guttenberg for being so lighthearted. He does seem to act like the oldest 49 year-old in the world though, doesn’t he? It’s cute anyway.

If there was anything hilarious, it was the moment the night before that Bruno shouted out “I think I’ve been outed!” and then in another moment when a contestant said something off the cuff, you could see him mouth “and I’m a bitch?” to Carrie Ann and Len. Now THAT’s comedy!

I was furious when I saw this dance on TV. To me it looked like pure mockery of gay people and ridicule at the thought of two men dancing together. I don’t see how anyone can see humor in it. I guess at least no one flicked a limp wrist at the end. Is that all the progress we have made?

They NEED to have two real hot males dancing on this show SERIOUSLY every week.
