Guitar Heroes

I have to say that the Guitar Hero ads were one of my favorite parts of last night's American Idol finale.
Watch them, AFTER THE JUMP...

Cooky won this competition too. His version is sexier. David A. shouldn't have worn those baggy boxers. It was probably his stage-father's idea

David A. is a kid. He doesn't need to wear anything too revealing. We have to start letting kids be kids. David C is a grown man. He can be sexy.

Isn't "guitar hero" just code for "pathetic loser?"

Yep, Cook won the underwear competition, too. But give David A. a few more years.
P.S. I was surprised and pleased that the better man actually won last night. It will be interesting to see what David A. matures into.

David A had to cover his temple clothes. He is from Utah after all.

David Cook.. *sigh*

Maybe those boxers were the magic Morman underpants I've been hearing about! If so, they certainly didn't work for "A" last nite.

LOL @ Steve! Exactly what I was thinking... were those his magic Mormon undies?
PS: My favorite part of last night's finale was when the DVR stopped recorded right as Seacrest said "The winner is... [DO YOU WANT TO DELETE THIS RECORDING NOW?]" Stupid DVR.

Damn, I still can't tell....cut or uncut? :-)

hmmm...to be honest, I didn't enjoy either version. The original Tom Cruise (freak that he is now) version is so ingrained in our pop culture that no homage to it can live up to the original. Was this suppose to be a parody? The fact that both guys did the exact same thing on the exact same set made it all the more pointless to me. Perhaps if they edited the two together going from one guy to the other it may have been more interesting.

"The garment" (as it is called) is a baggy "onesie" that would be worn under the shirt and the baggy boxers. They are "magic" only in the sense that they are supposed to remind the wearer of his obligations to his Church (primarily) and to himself (secondarily) to remain true to his promise to keep himself pure (i.e., no sex, including "self stimulation") until marriage. I knew several Mormon classical danseurs in my former life, which is why I know what I do about "the garment".
By the way, Mormon ballet dancers are given a dispensation to remove the garment while they are performing. Another curiosity: the Mormon ballet danseurs that I knew were exceedingly well-hung and engaged in frequent sexual activities SO LONG AS the partner was not a Mormon female. Funny how there is always a way around a technical rule. I always forced any Mormon man to wear "the garment" during sex because it added a kinky edge (oh for the days of innocence).
Regarding AI, I was actually glad that the David A portion was played for comedic effect because he is too young to be overtly sexualized on national TV. My gaydar goes DefCon5 when I see him but he has to escape from his parents before he confronts the awful reality of being gay and Mormon. That cult honed the so-called reparative therapy techniques that were abandoned in the early sixties by reputable psychologists. See, e.g., the movie "Latter Days". I hope he has a fulfilling career and life.

I think David Archuleta is as cute as a button but I'm going to have to admit that I prefer and feel more at ease watching David Cook's version of the commercial. Besides, it's Cook's element!

I'm glad underage boys in their underwear is the "favorite" part of American idol.

david cook is 25, hardly underage

David A. is too young to wear the Mormon garments. Faithful members don't start wearing them until age 19 (for boys who will serve missions). I highly doubt David A. will ever serve a mission for the LDS Church, so he will only don the holy garment IF he marries a girl in the temple. I think he's more likely to hire a Rebecca DeMornay-like prostitute and hump her on his parents stairs...

In the film "Risky Business", Tom Cruises character, who dances around the living room lip-syncing in his underwear, was a high school student. In other words, he was depicting someone about David Archuleta's age.

Isn't Mike just code for Gaytard?

David A is 17

There might be another reason why a more modest undergarment was selected for DA. A number of photos from the season have suggested in no uncertain terms that he may have more than one kind of enormous talent.
