John McCain on SNL: 'Jamming Gaydar is not a Federal Responsibility'

Mccain

John McCain appeared on Saturday Night Live over the weekend. In one segment, he joked about what we should be looking for in our next president, emphasizing the fact that he should be very, very old." He also criticized nonsensical pork barrel spending appropriations, joking that government programs to jam gaydar make no sense.

Said McCain: "...160 million to the Department of Defense for developing a device that can jam gaydar. Now I don't know if this is anti-gay, or pro-gay, or if such a device would even work. but I do know this. Jamming gaydar is not a federal responsibility. That's something that's best left to state and local governments."

Watch it, as well as his 'Weekend Update' appearance, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. Someone who has over 100 lobyists working on his campaign has a problem with pork barrel spending?

LOL Now that is the joke.

He has even admited to having to "revet" everyone in his entire campaign because he has been busted.

  2. Can't say I ever expected to hear McCain say "crazy exciting".

  3. What a disturbing ol' bastard McSame is. It's absolutely sickening that he's making JOKES about "gaydar" when this hatemonger pushed for a state-wide ban on equality for the gay and lesbian citizens of Arizona and their families.

I don't blame him entirely since SNL has amped up the homophobic jokes. During the news segment on this same show, Amy Poehler joked that mesh tuxedos have increased in sales since the California ruling, accompanied by the requisite minstrel photo. Hardee har har. Who writes this shit?

  4. SNL is about as "cutting" now as Bob Hope specials were in the '70s.

  5. It’s always so interesting to see how the fascist use the word "hatemonger”. Look at your language JOHN, and see how loving YOU are...

  6. Lord, after Chris Matthews completely humiliated and owned the conservative radio talk show idiot who didn't know what the word "appease" meant and what Neville Chamberlain did in 1938 to earn himself the title, "World's Worst Appeaser", you would think that conservatives would avoid, like the plague, using words that they clearly don't know the meaning of. You know, like "fascist" for example.

MIKE, please define "fascist" and explain to all of us how it could possibly be applied to JOHN IN MANHATTAN based on the comment he made above.

  7. "What should we buoy looking for in our next President?" Maybe someone who can read a teleprompter.

  8. Oh heck, I'll make it easy for you. I'll do the first part for you.

According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary "a Fascist: is:

A person who subscribes to a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition or exibits a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

Now, all you have to do is explain to us how this applies to JOHN IN MANHATTAN and NOT to a person who supports a political party that pushes blind Patriotism, gave us the Patriot Act, has worked for almost eight years to centralize government power at the federal level, has pushed for more and more executive power, has proudly and repeatedly used homophobia and racism to win elections and has attempted to surpress any opposition voices by charging those who raise such challenges with being unpatriotic, un-American and a THREAT to all things American.

If there is a JOHN being discussed here that could possibly be considered sympathetic to fascism it wouldn't be JOHN IN MANHATTAN.

  9. The gaydar joke is quite funny. If it disturbs you, then you must be anal (no pun intended)

    Posted by: amle | May 19, 2008 3:25:12 PM

  10. How would being anal-retentive even enter into whether or not a person finds something funny?

I guess your lack of understanding - and your own attempts at a pun (fully intended, it seems) demonstrates how you could find this "gaydar" joke, being delivered by a huge homophobe, would ever be considered "quite funny".

  11. Zeke

Don't forget how Musolini defined facism

Musolini a Facist himself said "Facism is control of the government by buisness for buisness intrests"

  12. JEEZ FELLOW HOMOS, LIGHTEN UP! THAT SHIT WAS FUNNY! IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN BARACK OBAMA IS AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE AS WELL. I DON'T KNOW IF SNL IS GOING HOMOPHOBIC OR MAYBE WE'VE REACHED THE POINT IN OUR SOCIETY WHERE PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO ACTUALLY ACCEPT THE FACT THAT WE ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND ARE A PART OF AMERCICAN LIFE AND THEREFORE OPEN TO A LITTLE RIBBING. WHO HASN'T SEEN PICS OF OVER THE TOP COMMITMENT CEREMONIES? AND DIDN'T YOU LAUGH? ADMIT IT. I CAN'T SEE MYSELF VOTING FOR MCCAIN BUT I LIKE HIM. I ALSO RESPECT HIM FOR WHAT HE WENT THROUGH IN VIETNAM. HE ALSO HAS WORKED WITH HILLARY DURING HIS TIME IN THE SENATE.JUST BECAUSE WE DISAGREE WITH HIM AND HIS PARTY I DON'T THINK HE DESERVES SOME OF THE NAME CALLING I'M SEEING HERE.

BTW, IS TOWLEROAD THE BEST GAY SITE EVER OR WHAT?! I'VE TURNED ON SO MANY STRAIGHT FRIENDS TO IT BECAUSE IN ADDITION TO BEING POLITICALLY INFORMED IT ALSO IS HELLA FUN! I'M PROUD OF ALL YOU GUYS AND GALS WHO READ TOWLEROAD AND TAKE THE TIME TO COMMENT ON ALL THE STORIES. WE SHOULD REALLY STAND BACK AND RELISH THIS MOMENT IN HISTORY WHEN SO MANY PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED IN THE POLITICAL PROCESS! I AM A DIED IN THE WOOL HILLARY SUPPORTER BUT I MUST COMMEND MR OBAMA FOR BRINGING IN SO MANY NEW VOTERS. HOPEFULLY, WE'LL ALL UNITE COME NOVEMBER AND REALIZE THE STRENGTHS BOTH CANDIDATES BRING TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND COMBINE THOSE ATTRIBUTES TO MAKE REAL CHANGE.

  13. Sorry DW314, as much as I, too, would have preferred Sen. Clinton to get the nomination, any attempt to morally equate Obama and McShame vis-a-vis gay marriage equality won't fly.

On the floor of the US Senate, and in their official positions, Clinton, Obama, and McCain, yes, do not support gay marriage equality. They each have said such decisions should be left up to the individual states.

However, Sen. McCain was very vocal in Arizona about supporting a marriage ban amendment to their constitution. The leaders of that effort bragged about his endorsement as if he were some kind of poster boy for them.

Not only have I seen no evidence that Illinois Sen. Obama ever supported any of the ongoing attempts to ban marriage equality in the Illinois, I cannot imagine him doing so [nor Sen. Clinton for that matter].

Further, in direct opposition to the enthusiastic support for civil unions of Sens. Obama and Clinton, last year McShame clarified his seemingly contradictory positions expressed in 2006 with this statement after New Hampshire legalized civil unions [emphasis mine]:

"If I were a citizen of New Hampshire, I would oppose it. ... ANYTHING that impinges or impacts the sanctity of the marriage between men and women, I'm opposed to it."

On Don't Ask-Don't Tell which both Obama & Clinton want repealed, McShame said, "I have to rely on our military leadership... so I think it would be a terrific mistake TO EVEN REOPEN THE ISSUE. It is working, my friends, the policy is working. And I am convinced that that's the way we can maintain this greatest military."

While they propose different amounts of funding increases, Obama & Clinton both are knowledgeable anc serious about fighting HIV/AIDS. When McShame was asked about the benefits of condoms and education, he said, "You've stumped me. I'm not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I'm sure I've taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was."

McShame voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination by sexual orientation.

McShame voted NO on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes.

When asked about his support for LGBT equality, he had to be told what the acronym MEANS!

These are but SOME of the reasons he is an asshat with a side of tater tots.
