Brent Rinehart Says He Doesn't Know What 'Homophobic' Means

Rinehartcomic

He also says he doesn't care if he knows how to spell.

Oklahoma County Commissioner Brent Rinehart, who created a 16-page anti-gay comic book to send to voters as propaganda in his reelection campaign, was asked on CNN's American Morning if he is homophobic.

Said Rinehart: "Well, I'm not even sure as to what homophobic means, but let's just keep in mind that we are in a cultural war. Not just here in the state of Oklahoma, but nationwide. And I have seen pictures and I have seen viewings of gay pride parades around the nation here and the state of Oklahoma, and that's the very same attire and the very same billboards that you see in these parades. So, the thing about it is, when you're putting out a message it lands on particular people's feet and they don't necessarily like the message, that doesn't mean that the message isn't true."

  3. Does that cultural war include gay-bashing?

Does it ever include anything else? It certainly doesn’t include spelling in “culture.”!

It certainly doesn't include spelling in "culture," LOL!

  6. First Sally Kern, now Brent Rinehart; how do you spell the name of the state they are from...oh yeah...O-K-L-A-H-O-M-O-P-H-O-B-I-A

  7. So where did he go to college, because nearly any degree from any college requires a class in psycology. So it's hard to believe he doesn't know what homophobic means. I'm also certian he doesn't live in a fantacy world that the topic never comes up.

  8. He says no one has questioned the truthfulness of what he says in the comic book, so let me be the first. Homosexuals are not pedophiles. To say otherwise is not only factually false, it's purposefully false. That lie has been around for years. It's a scare tactic to equate normal gays who want equal rights with child molesters. If Commissioner Rinehart had bothered to read about pedophilia, he would have learned this is false...as well as pedophilia's proper spelling. Instead he doesn't care about the truth...he is proud of his ignorance. Well, Commission Rinehart: there are none so blind as those who will not see.

  9. This comic book is my new favoritest. thing. ever.

  10. To be this purposefully false in what you're trying to pass off as "true" just strikes me as queer, and I use that word in its most classic sense -- my gaydar went ding ding ding as soon as I looked at this guy. surely, like Larry Craig, he is so very very opposed to what the gays are doing because he so fears and loathes that very thing within himself. Surely someone has seen him prowl a local public restroom, or seen him in a dark bar somewhere on the DL. Anyone?

  11. All Mr. Rinehart needs to do to learn the definition of homophobia is to hold his pathetic little comic book tight and look in the mirror. As for the poor spelling, I guess spellcheck hasn't come to his area of Oklahoma?

  12. Heterosexual women tend to wear very little clothing (cleavage showing, thighs showing) when attracting a man, yet Brett Rinehart doesn't seem to be offended by this. Perhaps it's because this paradigm complies with male heterosexual fantasy - of the woman as barely-dressed sex object - and thus does not warrant offense.

Just goes to show that a lot of this homophobia is due to heterosexual male fear that we gay and bi men are daring to be sexy in the way heterosexual women are allowed to be. They can't stand the fact that we don't curl up and hide our sexiness. Our sexiness is a challenge to patriarchal control.

Keep in mind, also, that many self-described straight men are actually bisexual on the Kinsey orientation scale. The sight of a sexy man reminds them of their inner bisexuality, something they're afraid of.

  13. Man, I feel really bad for any Oklahomans out there. The shame of having retards like this running their government.

  14. Ass hole, party of one available! Hopefully he will not get elected. He is of course "closeted". Not sure what homophobia means...what ever!

  15. Anyone who thinks there's a "culture war" to be fought doesn't deserve to be an elected representative. There is one America, and all cultures are equal. Didn't this guy take 2nd grade social studies?

    Posted by: Alan | Jul 22, 2008 1:17:23 AM

  16. Thank you LUIS!!

Can we avoid the "Oklahomo" bashing? Seriously. Is there a single state in the union that can claim full acceptance from every official and resident?

    WTF/WJD? ;)

  17. What? Brent Rinehart is an idiot? Who knew?

  18. "I have seen pictures and I have seen viewings of gay pride parades."

So his whole knowledge of the LGBT community is through limited media. Chances are he's never met (to his knowledge) a gay man/woman which would show we're more than just the more colorful images that the media eats up due to TV being a visual medium.

Still, it's like others have said, he's most likely insecure about his own sexuality which makes him uncomfortable with the stereotypical, flamboyant gay (which there's nothing wrong with anyway... it's a part of their personality).

  19. In addition to his many other faults his is a terrible artists.

Now, are OK voters okay with this sort of bigotry and sophomoric name calling? I fear many of them probably are.

  20. You know...?
I've been mistaken all these years!
    He's right!
    I repent my wicked ways!
I deny my former Togadom! Thrice before ye cock crows!
Thank God for visionaries like Rinehart!

  21. How are such stupid, uneducated people getting ahead in America these days?

    Posted by: Ben | Jul 22, 2008 8:49:34 AM

  22. Ben, to your question how are stupid, uneducated people getting ahead... consider the elected "leader" of the country for the past 7 years!!! He has made "Stupid" acceptable. Look at what passes for a TV station nowadays...namely Fox Noise.

    Posted by: Reggie | Jul 22, 2008 10:55:30 AM

  23. He's a particular type of stupid. It's an excellent question to ask just how he's gotten ahead in life. Is he the son of wealth and/or part of a political family?? What rock did he crawl out from under? Henry Darger he is not.

  24. Anyone whose opinion that is influenced by a freakin comic book creation over actually informing themselves on candidate positions needs to stay in Oklahoma

  25. If this is indeed a "Culture War", we need to put away our little protest signs and petitions and do something that will make a real difference - Tax Resistance.

To steal and adapt a line from "The Sopranos":

Paying taxes to a government that discriminates against our families is like having someone take a shit on your head and then thanking them for the hat.
