News: Glacier, Beijing, Melrose Place, Greetings, Ed Westwick
Stonewall Democrats begin Denver "boot camp" for Convention.

Greenland glacier coming apart.
Coming together: the cast of Melrose Place?
"Pro-family" groups that wants to ban gay adoption in Arkansas says it has more than enough signatures for ballot measure.
Former Olympic athlete Lauren Meece who is also a lesbian tells gays to shut up: "The GLBT community should let gay athletes deal with gay issues off of the podium. In the name of the Olympic spirit and humanity… shut up and let gay athletes focus on the endeavors that they have worked so hard to reach."
Gays in Beijing living in the shadows: " Homosexuality has only been legal for 11 years in China. Although the Chinese Psychiatric Association took it off the list of psychiatric disorders in 2001, same-sex unions are still considered immoral by the authorities. The modernization of Beijing in preparation for the Olympics actually made things worse for gays. Several gay clubs were bulldozed during the frenzy of street-widening and high-rise building during the run-up to the games."
Madonna just turned 50, but guess who just turned 45?

American Family Association protests Hallmark's introduction of greeting cards for same-sex marriage: "We’ve all given or received Hallmark Cards – remember their slogan – “when you care enough to send the very best.” But promoting same-sex marriage for profit is not the very best for families or our nation. Hallmark is a private company obviously driven by greed. Let them know you do not appreciate Hallmark promoting a lifestyle which is illegal in 48 states. American Greeting Cards, Hallmark’s competitor, does not offer same-sex marriage cards."
Gay rights and law enforcement groups in Wales urging homophobic attack victims to step forward.
Pete Wentz: fallen hipster.

Ed Westwick on his relationship with Chace Crawford: "People think Chace is gay, and thought I was gay, that we were humping. It’s not true, but hilarious. People project their fantasies onto people. I’ve never been someone who makes it my objective to go out and pick up chicks. But I’ve met some fantastic ladies here. You know those amazing conversations where you find yourself in a café talking until 2 a.m. and never see them again."
Homophobe too drunk to recall attack on neighbor: "'He saw the defendant, he noticed he was having a lot of trouble getting his key into the lock,' Mr Aisthorpe said. He asked if he needed any assistance and Spink turned around and asked who it was. 'He said it's Terry – Bay Horse Terry,' he said. Spink then launched the attack. 'The defendant suddenly punched Mr Braniff-Coe in the head twice. The punches were in quick succession,' said Mr Aisthorpe. The landlord walked away, but Spink started hurling abuse at him. Mr Braniff-Coe later told police he was 'very scared' over the assault...Richard Lunn, for Spink, said his client could not dispute the evidence in the case, as he was too drunk to recall what had taken place."

I have no idea how I misread that, but the first time through, I thought it was American Greetings, and thought that was a very inappropriate response from a competitor.

ANDY!! If you read this, Matthew Mitcham qualified for the finals of the Men's 10m platform. He came in second.

How can the AFA put out information that is so blatently false? "A lifestyle that is illegal in 48 states" I guess when you don't have any truth or facts on your side then deception and lying are your only option? I hope American Greeting Cards doesn't listen to these hate-filled religious family freaks!

Being married or having a commitment ceremony is not "a lifestyle that's illegal in 48 states." A marriage from CA or MA or Canada may not be recognized in most states, but that doesn't make it illegal. Another stupid distortion from those lying "Christians" at the AFA.
On Chase:
"You know those amazing conversations where you find yourself in a café talking until 2 a.m. and never see them again."
Wow, he's a hot young actor and his idea of what to do with "the fantastic ladies" is talking in a cafe until 2? That's what I did with "the ladies" when I was his age. Lots of great talks.

Wait... homosexuality is illegal in 48 states (I'm assuming the "lifestyle" they're talking about is homosexuality since marriage/civil unions are NOT lifestyles)?
Posted by: Philip Wester | Aug 22, 2008 4:18:14 PM
Well... lets see... innocuous greeting cards and two bottom boys who are BFF , why I ask, WHY?, is it so hard for Christians to behave in a 'christian manner' in regards to their brothers and sisters, where is there a crime going down that needs to be stopped? Love is all you need , my mom always distilled chritianity to one golden rule 'Do Unto Others As You Would Have Done To You'. And lets not forget one of Jesus favorites , what you do unto the least of my breatheren etc...
It is really not any more complicated than most religions, yet just as distorted as any fundimentalist can imagine, sad !!!!!

Is it just me or did Ed Westwick just say the gayest thing ever?
Posted by: J.P. | Aug 22, 2008 4:27:17 PM
No it's not just you J.P. because Ed Westwick is the gayest thing ever. So much so I'm thinking of using "Gayer than Ed Westwick" as a descriptive phrase.
He reminds me of a guy I went to college with who was in the closet only in his own mind. He was ready to burst into flaming faggotry of the Upper Class New York sort (picture a really gay Ryan Phillipe) but something held him back. He kept asking me about my sex life. I kept waiting for him to pop the question. I would have turned him down cause he was Trouble with a humungous T. At the last he married his fag-hag. This was some forty years ago. No idea if he still breathes, but would be very surprised if that were the case.

I have sent an email to their public relations person...and am now on the Hallmark site creating cards to have sent to them! I think we should all buy some Hallmark cards to send to American Greetings! Great idea Jonathan

Damn that latest quote is the confirmation I needed. Can you believe it, Ed Westick is gay and don't know it yet. How fucking innocent and cute for a denizen of hollyweird.

I'm a gay Dem delegate and all I've gotten from them is an invite to what looks like Lilith Fair II that costs way more than I can pay. I guess I'll join my fellow homos when I get there.

I love the idea of buying the cards and mailing them as a huge F U to AFA. Along with buying them from Hallmark and mailing them to Hallmark with a HUGE THANK YOU NOTE enclosed.
What scares me about these people is that they are VERY well organized and many of the email membership who get these notes have nothing better to do with their time then send letters of protest.
UGH

David, I think your friend probably had a trust fund or inheritance he was trying to protect.

I'm at the Stonewall Dems convention. Great fun! Good training workshops, too. The Stonewall Dems don't get the credit they deserve for the work that they do in electing strong, glbt-friendly candidates in this country (who, in turn, are great on pretty much every progressive issue). It's all grassroots, mostly behind the scenes work, but it's happening all across the country - with local chapters in every state. Many of them are at the forefront of making change at the local level.
Readers should definitely get involved with the Stonewall Dems. If they don't want to join, they should at least do the easy thing to do and donate some cash. Many states, especially in smaller states, do all this work with very little funds - so it's important to get involved with time or money, or both.

The Hallmark debacle just proves yet again how BORED a lot of these people must be. Seriously, who spends the little free time they have between work, family, etc. protesting against greeting cards? Their social calender must be frighteningly empty.

I could see a lot of straight boys going gay for Chace. He's adorable in a nonthreatening way and wears more makeup than most women.
That, along with some alcohol, is a formula that works like magic for getting straight boys in bed. At least it did when I was a teenager.
