Barack Obama Goes Direct in 'Plan for Change' Ad

Obamaplan

In his most direct address yet to voters, Barack Obama addresses the country's current economic issues and his plan for how to fix them.

Says Obama in the two-minute address: "In the past few weeks, Wall Street’s been rocked as banks closed and markets tumbled. But for many of you – the people I’ve met in town halls, backyards and diners across America – our troubled economy isn’t news. 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January. Paychecks are flat and home values are falling. It’s hard to pay for gas and groceries and if you put it on a credit card they’ve probably raised your rates. You’re paying more than ever for health insurance that covers less and less. This isn’t just a string of bad luck. The truth is that while you’ve been living up to your responsibilities Washington has not. That’s why we need change. Real change. This is no ordinary time and it shouldn’t be an ordinary election. But much of this campaign has been consumed by petty attacks and distractions that have nothing to do with you or how we get America back on track. Here’s what I believe we need to do..."

  2. Where is the coverage on Gay issues? Why doesn't he speak to the gay community?

  3. "600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January."

So those 600,000 folks will vote for Obama. Fine. Let their dems find them jobs. I'm sure Obama will help you navigate Craigslist and/or the Help Wanted section. Maybe he'll even help you write a resume.

But for the rest of the US population, namely the ones WITH jobs that could care less about anyone but their own taxes, methinks thats when the republicans get the vote.

Obama is courting the minority here. No one wants to hear about the depressed and poor. And god forbid the middle class ACTUALLY wants to help them with huge tax hikes.

You all forget, its easy to SAY you are a democrat until you GO IN THAT BOOTH, PULL THE CURTAIN, and think...what do I GET HERE. And then the vote is clear. Republican all the way. The last thing I want is to give up another 10% of my pay each year to help the economy rebound. I'll be out buying things for myself. Sorry. It's how I think. And so does the majority.

  4. please promote whoever finally suggested to him that he step it up and actually define "change." It is well past time for the Obama campaign to deliver this message, here's to hoping it didn't come too late.

  5. Because the message is about the ECONOMY, stupid!

    Posted by: soulbrotha | Sep 17, 2008 2:02:14 PM

  6. OBAMA IS OVER, you'd sound so much more intelligent if you would say that people "couldn't care less" rather than they "could care less." If you'd stop to think about it, you'd realize what a bonehead and counterintuitive statement that is.

  7. The selfishness and apathy behind Obama Is Over's comment is exactly why comparisons of the republican party to the Nazis are so easy to make.

  8. He is so brilliant it makes you wonder what Americans are thinking when they consider geezer and slut as an alternative? To what a circus act.

Oh and "Obama is over" go away we don't listen to you because you have nothing to say you are as angry and hollow and stupid and the Rethuglicans you side with - go jerk off with the other Rethuglicans you're not welcome here and you aren't adding anything to the discussion - just like the candidates you support, nasty small minded bitter angry and so filled with your own sense of entitlement and ignorance that you are an embarrassment to this country. Shame on you.

  10. Because Obama has always believed homosexual behavior to be an immoral sin and does not condone or promote it. He has been very very tactful about his choices of words in order to keep this truth out of the media.

  11. And "ObamaIsOver", why don't you get your facts straight?

    http://www.bargaineering.com/articles/obama-vs-mccain-tax-plans-obama-saves-you-more.html

Obama isn't "over" bitch, he's OVAH!! Two snaps up in an "O" formation!

    Posted by: soulbrotha | Sep 17, 2008 2:14:37 PM

  12. and the idiocy, MARK. It's not just selfishness. I would prefer to pay less taxes, like everyone else. Unfortunately, I like to invest the extra money, particularly in the stock market - which has lost over 800 points in the last 2 days because the Republicans fought so hard against regulation.

  13. Provide proof, Joe.

    Posted by: soulbrotha | Sep 17, 2008 2:16:12 PM

  14. Obama is Over's remarks are especially amusing when you consider that it's the Republicans who are using U.S. tax dollars to bail out AIG, Bear Stearns, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

"The last thing I want is to give up another 10% of my pay each year to help the economy rebound." Good luck under John McCain, my friend.

  15. Repeat after me:
    There are 300 million Americans.
    65% will vote.
    The unemployed are the minority.
    Gays are the minority.
    Blacks are the minority.

The majority are selfish. They would never admit it but they are. Our economic system mandates that everyone look out for themselves. We do not live in a communist country. We live in a CAPITALIST one. The majority dictates the elections. And with Obama being the champion for the minority, the majority continues to laugh. I cannot stress this enough. Every American has the right to vote ONCE. And they vote for what THEY WANT. Not what their gay next door neighbor wants. Not for the unemployed guy down the street who lost his job. Not for Joe College who is gonna struggle paying his tuition.

"you're not welcome here and you aren't adding anything to the discussion" is in fact the exact opposite of what I am doing. I am not trying to convince you to vote Republican. I am however opening your eyes to the fact that there are more people in this county than just YOU.

  16. Obama, when pressed, has always declared subscribing to a Biblical viewpoint of homosexuality and stated that he would not support a federal gay rights amendment, but defers this issue to state legislatures. The church that he chose to be a part of for many years shares the same scriptural condemnation of homosexual behavior (but not the homosexual as a person). I don't have any video links and am not sure if they are available.

  17. Are these brand new trolls up in here? Or are they just the same old tired trolls posting under new and exciting screen names?

    Posted by: 24play | Sep 17, 2008 2:32:26 PM

  18. "ObamaIsOver",

the rich are ALSO the minority. The middle class is the majority. So if "the majority is selfish", then wouldn't it stand to reason that they would vote for someone who will protect their interests? Well McSame is for the rich minority. Obama is for everyone else.
    So please can the bullshit.

Joe, I asked you to provide me proof that he believes that homosexuality is an immoral sin. I have never heard him say that and if he did, I am sure there would be plenty of press on it. The only thing that I have heard him say when referring to the Bible is about MARRIAGE, not homosexuality. So, without proof you are basically ascribing what you BELIEVE his views are. And that is not fact.

  19. Dead wrong on Obama's church, TrollJoe. Trinity is one of the most gay-welcoming and -affirming churches in the nation.

    Posted by: 24play | Sep 17, 2008 2:36:46 PM

  20. JOE, you're actually incorrect about Obama's position. The church which he formally belonged to was very much pro-gay, and even performed gay marriages / commitment ceremonies. Moreover, Obama believes that gays should be able to openly serve in the military, is in support of ENDA, wants to include sexual orientation in hate crimes law, and believes that gay people should have federal protections for their marriages / civil unions. To compare Obama's positions with John McCain, view this easy side-by-side comparison sheet from the campaign:

    http://obama.3cdn.net/a059503ce1353cb3e5_szbmvyes6.pdf

As for this ad, OBAMA IS OVER, I think you know enough about the slim margins in Ohio and Florida to see that even minority voting blocs are enough to tilt a state to go for one candidate or another. In Florida in 2004, over 1.4 million registered African Americans and young voters did not go to the polls. That was enough to give Bush the state. For this reason, the Obama campaign is *wise* to focus on minority voting blocs; they may be the key to victory in November.

  21. And by the way Joe, this may interest you:

    http://www.washingtonblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=17266

I find it EXTREMELY hard believe that anyone who thought that homosexuality was an immoral sin would step one foot into a church like that.

  22. "Its the economy stupid!"

BUT, this should scare a few people

    http://timesonline.typepad.com/uselections
    /2008/09/palin-linked-el.html

A pastor who spoke at Palin's assemblies of god church (20+ yrs of attendance by her) 10 times , whose sermnos were prominently displayed on Palin's church website till she became VP nominee, and whom she credits in speeches for helping her win the governorship via his praying over her, laying hands on her, annointing her =

1- started as a witch hunter. Stirred up his congregation against a woman whom they wanted to stone and ended up chasing out of town

2- always going on about demonic warfare and demons everywhere

Scary crazy stuff. With her church supporting "pray the gay away" conference + the witch hunter sees demons everywhere dude = you know it isn't a giant leap to we gays are possesed by a demonic spirit of gayness. I've heard such from a local assemblies of g church.

  23. Joe, after 2 seconds on Google:

    "Gay Rights
    • Being gay or lesbian is not a choice. (Nov 2007)
    • Decisions about marriage should be left to the states. (Oct 2007)
    • Homosexuality no more immoral than heterosexuality. (Oct 2007)
    • Ok to expose 6-year-olds to gay couples; they know already. (Sep 2007)
    • Has any marriage broken up because two gays hold hands? (Aug 2007)
    • We need strong civil unions, not just weak civil unions. (Aug 2007)
    • Legal rights for gays are conferred by state, not by church. (Aug 2007)
    • Disentangle gay rights from the word "marriage". (Aug 2007)
    • Gay marriage is less important that equal gay rights. (Aug 2007)
    • Gay rights movement is somewhat like civil rights movement. (Aug 2007)

Perhaps the site is lying -- but I doubt he is the gay-hater you claim above.

  25. There is no proof Obama believes homosexuality is a sin. It's all speculation based on his associations (ie, Mary Mary, McClurkin, etc.) and his alleged refusal to be photographed with Gavin Newsom. Basically, it's all just a lot of hufflepuff, so who knows for sure.
