Sad Holiday Season for Men's Mags?

Mogue_2There will be no tears shed for the death of Men's Vogue, which yesterday Conde Nast reported would begin two "publish two issues a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The title will be folded into Vogue and Jay Fielden will stay on as editor."

The title was boring from its first issue and never took into account that there might possibly be a gay audience for it out there. In fact, actively seemed to shun it. Dull, uninspiring articles, and a migraine-worthy layout.

And after seeing the cover and contents of the new "Holiday" issue of Details, one wonders if there's reason to worry there too.

  1. I completely disagree with you in regards to Men's Vogue. I loved every issue. I don't feel like it tried to shun it's gay audience either. If anything, it tried to be aesthetically aware and intelligent at the same time, which, yes, I guess doesn't resemble other gay magazines. I think that says more about how dumb some gay media is than it does about Men's Vogue not appreciating a gay audience.

  2. As a subscriber to Details, yes I've found the magazine waning in recent issues. Migraine-worthy does come to mind. Uninteresting. Immediately relegated to waiting room fodder. Makes me question why I renewed the subscription for $9.95.

  3. Any magazine that puts Keanu on the cover deserves oblivion.

  4. Bite your tongue, Roscoe!

A thing of beauty is Keanu forever!

  5. Men's Vogue, good riddance one year of that was enough, Cargo was far better. Details, when it got here yesterday with Reeves on the cover, I wondered why? It has been going downhill of late with the "cover" stories and with this one it shows they need new leadership, ugh, why do women have loads of magazines with a lifestyle bent, and, men a couple?

  6. Frankly, I've never seen an interesting men's magazine, period.

  7. I was thinking the same as "Meanwhile"
Can anyone think of an interesting Men's Magazine?

  8. It's not their fault that Keanu only has one facial expression. It is their fault they chose to put him on the cover.

  9. What's wrong with Keanu's face? It looks like someone punched him in the lip.

  10. They've photoshopped every last shred of appealing character from his face.

  11. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Details is just GQ for douchebags.

  12. "Men's Vogue" was a goner from the start -- just incredibly boring. I'm not surprised it never found an audience.

However, I have always loved "Details." It's certainly "fluffy," but fun. But you're right about the most recent issue -- it's strangely dull on all levels. I hope it's just one bad issue and they return to form soon.

  13. Wow, a lot of Keanu bashing here. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

  14. Tis' true- Men's Vogue was a big bore- I can;t say that I hated it- rather I was indifferent to it. Aside from the 1st issue, I never bought another copy.

Conde Nast should never have shuttered Cargo- that was a cool men's magazine.

  15. there is something unmasculine about a guy drooling in anticipation for the latest issue of a random magazine...

  16. Doesn't Keanu Reeves look like he's auditioning for the role of MIchael what's-his-name? The Russian gay porn-star and director? What's his name? My mine has atrophied.

  17. Hey - I didn't see any of us on the cover of Details. I've had a hard one for Keanu since Bill and Ted. So take all of your newbies and young ones - and leave him all to me.

  18. If I could choose one man in Hollywood to be with for one night, it would be Keanu. Unfortunately, the photo on the cover is of another person. Why do magazines love to photoshop to the point that another person (who is supposed to be *hot*) is created?

  20. When Details started, I managed to enjoy it for about a year. After that, it became tediously dull.

And Keanu - while a very nice looking man - is a rather boring person and as for acting, I'll say no more but you can fill in the blanks. Just because I'd sleep with him in a heartbeat doesn't mean that he's good magazine fodder.

  21. I'm over magazines ... I never get around to reading them. But I'm obsessed with this new site valet mag. Which gives me all the good style of a magazine, but I can read it at work when I'm supposed to be accounting. www.valetmag.com

Wow, a lot of Keanu bashing here. I guess I shouldn't be surprised & shocked.
