Grant Haas, Haggard's Accuser, Says Pastor Encouraged Sex, Meth Use

Last night, Colorado's KRDO aired their interview with Grant Haas, the New Life church volunteer who has come forward with new claims against Ted Haggard. KRDO spoke with Grant and played phone messages in which Haggard thanks the volunteer for erasing damning text messages that might have hurt the pastor.

Grant_2Haas claims Haggard's "eyes lit up" when he first learned the volunteer had been in a treatment program, struggling with his homosexuality: "His whole attitude toward me changed."

Haas also talks about a 2006 trip to Cripple Creek, Colorado he took with Haggard: "He asked me if we were going to be godly or bad that night? Were we going to just hang out and be friends or was I going to go buy him porn and masturbate with him and take methamphetamines with him and show me all these things he likes to do with him when he travels."

Haggard claims their relationship did not involve physical contact. And of course we know Haggard has a record of telling the "truth" before the real truth comes out.

Says Haas: "They don't think Ted Haggard is a harm to the community, and I really think that they're wrong. I think that they're dead wrong"

Yesterday, Mike Jones, the escort at the center of the original Haggard scandal, posted a video saying he knew there were others and expressing anger at organizations within the gay community that didn't take him seriously enough to return his phone calls.

The Trials of Ted Haggard, a new documentary by Alexandra Pelosi, is set to air on Thursday night. Haggard himself is scheduled to make an appearance on Larry King Live that night as well.

  1. Did they really bleep "masturbate" on that news story?

  2. Yeah, STEVEH, they did--I thought that was stupid, too.

I guess we now see what the difference between what Ted got when he paid up-front, as opposed to what he could scrape up while ministering!

  3. Maybe the reason Mike Jones wasn't getting return phone calls is because his 15 minutes is up. No one cares what the queen has to say anymore.

This whole Haggard thing has gone from scandalous to pathetic. Haggard has issues, we all know it, and trotting out more crap from his closet isn't going to change anything.

  4. TAODON, I agree that Ted Haggard is a pathetic closet case, but think about this: if Jones hadn't exposed him for the fraud that he is, he could very well be standing in his bully pulpit at New Life, vilifying the GLBT community, so for that, I thank him. At least now, everyone can see Haggard as he truly is. Arguably, Jones 'might' have been trying to profit from the whole thing, but I don't pretend to read his minds, so I'm just going to thank him for what he did to bring down a hypocrite.

  5. I am savoring the Schadenfreude!!! I love it.

  6. There's a lot of damaged, unhappy people involved with all of this. That much is certain.

  7. You hear this story and go Ouch!

People should be nice to Jones, but he's always angling for sympathy, which suggests that he is exaggerating his plight.

  8. 180,000 dollars for jerking off with Ted Haggart? And to think I've been giving it away free all these years...and how much did Jones make?

I don't get all these self esteem issues with the "victim". It seems to be the byproduct of his church upbringing and self inflicted homophobia.

  9. obviously this kid is now EATING to make up for the "loneliness"?? You know its only a matter of time before Haggards wife leaves him....I say - No later then May!

  10. OMG, Disgusted American - I needed that laugh (re: eating)!
Mr. Jones, no one is listening because you are pathetic.

  11. I couldn't help but notice addict, abuser and adulterer Haggard's cry of "forgive me, forgive me," and "move on"... Only when it's convenient for him and his church.

Meanwhile, it's ironic that we're considered the sinners that can't ever be saved and are treated as lower than dogs, just because of our love.

  13. so, just how many methamphetamines does it actually take to get high?

    Posted by: alguien | Jan 27, 2009 12:19:38 PM

  14. Looks like Haas isn't going to get that last installment of the $180,000. Surprise that a drug addict blew through that much money in a couple of years and is now ready to make more money selling his story. People still belong to this church after all that has happened.

  15. Not to be mean, but did he really do meth, too? I thought it made you skinny?

    Posted by: FunMe | Jan 27, 2009 1:37:59 PM

  16. I mean seriously...fatty FATTY FAT FAT FAT!

    Posted by: TANK | Jan 27, 2009 1:49:47 PM

  17. funme:

i question the meth aspect of this story too-but for reasons other than yours. i have NEVER heard of any meth user talking about "taking methamphetamines" as if they were taking pills before-ever.

it's usually snorted or smoked or-for the truly committed, slammed.

this doesn't mean i don't think that haggard is a pathetic closet case who probably did abuse his position in the church to get men to do the nasty with him-but haas doesn't seem to know what he's talking about with regards to meth and it makes the story seem a little fishy to me.

  18. Many people feel sorry for Ted Haggard because he's a married man with children. According to this way of thinking, he at least tried to be heterosexual which makes him a better man than a total homosexual.

As far as why his wife is still with him, maybe he's good in bed. If he is, than perhaps she's having a hard time letting go.
