News: Bruno, EHarmony, Cuba, Eric Balfour, Old New York, Footloose

roadEHarmony launches gay matchmaking service as a result of settlement in discrimination lawsuit: "It's not a comfortable fit for EHarmony's founder, Neil Clark Warren, who based the original service -- which requires applicants to fill out lengthy questionnaires -- on his own practice as a psychologist. 'It's what I did for 40 years,' said Warren, 74, who is retired but remains on the board. 'I never had a gay couple.'"

Bruno roadSacha Baron Cohen's Bruno slapped with NC-17 rating over gay sex.

road"Ex-gay" therapy group can't rid themselves of shame: "The assumption of these men is that if they can work through a childhood issue that they believe led them to being attracted to other men, they will be able to live as heterosexuals. That notion runs counter to the notion that people are born gay and can't change. None of the men in the group felt comfortable to talk with The Bee."

roadWingnuts Lou Sheldon and Andrea Lafferty on what might happen if gays are allowed in the military: "Imagine the impact that the rampant spread of STDs, including HIV would have on the military? How will the military handle the spread of these diseases in the barracks? How will the military handle sodomy in battlefield situations?"

roadSTUDY: Police across Europe unequipped to deal with homophobic crimes. "The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights said police in most countries were incapable of dealing with homophobic crime -- ranging from verbal abuse to deadly attacks -- and said many governments and schools failed to take it seriously enough. This creates a vicious circle, with victims preferring to remain 'invisible' rather than being open about their sexual orientation or reporting abuse to authorities, the study showed."

roadChace Crawford to replace Zac Efron in Footloose remake?

Cuba roadMariela Castro launches anti-homophobia campaign in Cuba: "The 2009 campaign for respect for freedom of sexual orientation, under the slogan "Diversity is Natural", will try to contribute to 'the education of society in general, with an emphasis on university students, about respect for people's free and responsible sexual orientation and gender identity, as an exercise in equity and social justice.'"

Nathan (Connolly, guitarist) is a volunteer policeman and I explore my Cherokee ancestry. We're like the Village People, only slightly less gay."

  1. God, this made me laugh:

    Gotta love it.

  4. I've stated it before and I'll state it again: Bruno is in bad taste and will not help the LGBT community combat stereotypes in any way. Given that roughly 50% of this nation resents homosexuals, most will not view Bruno as a stereotype as they may have with Cohen's previous film. I strongly believe "Bruno" will fan the stereotypical flames that are already against us after such huge defeats as Prop 8. I found Cohen's appearance at a Prop 8 rally before Nov 4th to be in extremely bad taste. I do not find the stripping of millions of civil rights to be appropriate material for a "comedy" mockumentary.

  7. Let's embrace Bruno and Sacha Baron Cohen's depiction of gay men in all of his movies and shows! After all, he's not mocking gay people or trying to get a cheap laugh and a quick buck by playing to nasty stereotypes that, let's be honest depict things, not people...not humans, that's for sure. Those creatures paraded around movies like bruno don't really deserve human rights because they're not human beings, and won't get them. Deservedly.

But let's laud him as a champion of equality, and his character Bruno as an IT we should accept as one of our own! I'm sure there's a contingent of useless fay celebrity worshipping queens salivating for their chance to praise him and this... After all, there's more than a little bruno in all of those who do. Yet another straight celebrity who slums it with the gay theme for money...and most of the time, accolades (though not in this case).

Yay, the libertarian party is yet again chasing after a unattainable goal...I think the bull moose party is still more relevant.

And may Lou Sheldon get terminal prostate cancer.

  11. BATTLE ON Lou Sheldon and Andrea Lafferty!!!

I know when I'm with my boys on patrol in a Hummer, before, during, and after the IED explodes and shrapnel pierces the vehicle armor and my body armor, all I'm thinking about are my boys filling my every orifice with their rock hard dicks - - oh, wait, that's the fantasy that fills YOUR every waking moment!

    Suck it you sub-humans!!

  12. I've said it before and I'll say it again

Sacha is not funny in any of his characters.

Funny in the new era is Russell Brand. GENIUS and a total mess with drug issues like all the greats of old.

Russell brand is funny. Sacha not so much

  13. I agree 100% with CJ.

  15. CJ, not everyone has good sense of humor, and just for the giggles we can leave Bruno. Besides he does get publicity - and if some people do not understand that hay people are ..like totally unlike Bruno, yeah.. then neightr yourself nor me would be able to convince them over.

    Does that makes sence?

  16. "How to deal with sodomy in battlefield situations"

I'd love to see that military instructional video.

"In a battlefield situation, it is important to be aware of the effects of sodomy. In the heat of battle sodomy can overcome even the strongest willed of men."

  17. Iono, you misunderstand me. I am a very lighthearted guy, I take a lot of things in stride and I do have a good sense of humor. However, when so many of our brothers and sisters are being beaten and worst yet, killed at an increasingly alarming rate in this country and in this world I do not find any humor in picking a stereotype to make millions of dollars for a movie.

Cohen's last film was either received by those who were able to understand it's ironic humor, and flamed by those who were simply targets of that behavior. Generally speaking, it preached to the lowest common denominator. The subject matter wasn't nearly as controversial as homosexuality and I can simply see it flaming up the heterosexual community by either insulting them for being ignorant or really going after the sect that is so ignorant that wouldn't see the irony in the film. This is not what this nation (or world) needs, especially when things are getting much worse for our community.

Go ahead Crispy, call me the "Gay Police Chief", at least I'm putting my heart and passion out there to keep my brothers and sisters safer by volunteering and educating others (whether it be on a blog or in a volunteer community). The last thing we need is more rhetoric and controversy to flame the fires that are already burning our house down.
