Couple Says Anti-Gay Mob Attacked Them After Britney Concert

Following the Britney Spears concert at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Saturday night, Joshua Kehoe, 25, and his partner, Bobby Daniel Caldwell, 36, say they were attacked by a group of 15 to 20 youths, the Star-Ledger reports:

Prudential "Kehoe said that the attackers deliberately targeted him and his partner because they were gay, but Paul Loriquet, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's office said that police did not believe the incident was bias related. 'They were saying words like 'faggot',' Kehoe said, 'No matter how you look at it, it is a hate crime.' Kehoe said a security guard at a nearby building and two passersby called the police. They waited about 45 minutes for police to arrive, according to Kehoe even though about three squad cars passed the scene. When cops finally arrived, Caldwell was taken to University Hospital with his jaw broken in two spots."

Kehoe says he is hopeful nearby surveillance cameras captured the attack.

  1. When those things form mobs, they can be quite deadly; especially in urban areas of third world countries. Jaw broken in two places, though? Snap one of their necks like a twig, and toss it at the rest--that should break it up. Given the context (britney), defense didn't really seem like an option for these guys.

  2. As much as I hate them, those CCTV cameras that are all over Vegas would go a long way towards helping convict the bitches who weren't man enough to go one on one with these guys if they really had a problem with them. Of course, they didn't have a problem with them at all. They had and have a problem with themselves.

    Cowards.

  3. No, derek, they had a problem with gay people; und, in particular, these gay men. Not all violent homophobic assholes are secretly homosexual and self loathing. They're just trash...

I sure can't disagree with you there.

  5. Good grief. People these days. I expect this kind of fuckery at a Madonna concert.

  10. @ Derek Washington,

    Cowards?

You're not bored and bothered by these Queens screaming "poor me" over every exchange with the world outside of their comfort zone? Are you sure they didn't talk too much shit and get their asses kicked?

  12. Why are we always the ones getting beat up all the time?

  13. Wheezy....I'm giving you the big middle finger right now. You're already blamming the VICTIMS here and making homophobic comments toward them and defending the hood rat, *COWARDS* who had to tag team in order to attack them because their own lives are so miserable due to be poor, ugly, and insecure- before knowing the story?
That says a lot about you and how jaded and bitter you are about you're own community.

I love gay men who got rejected one too many times at the local gay joints and then turn into self hating, internalized homophobes and take it out on the rest of us. Take it out with a therapist!

On a note related to the story, I love the tenacity inwhich these guys are going after this case and not giving up. I genuinly hope ALL gay men who feel mistreated, violated or attacked take the bull by the horn and take action (lawyers, file police report, seek press, get the word out there and FIGHT BACK)

  14. Wheezy...I totally now get what you meant by that comment toward Derek who was insensitive enough to make light of a situation where a gay man (the poet from San Fran) was assualted. I wonder (and am surprised) Derek isn't blamming us queens for this attack either. I'm also surprised Derek didn't follow this post with "those queens had it coming"...
I guess some are just snarky toward anti gay bigotry when they have a punchline to share.

Again, sorry for misreading what you wrote Wheezy and substitute Derek for Wheezy in my original message.

  16. I was at a party last year and one of the guys that got beat up punched the birthday girl twice in the face because she didn't want him to drive home drunk... so I guess its true about what they say... what goes around comes around...

  17. The mayor of Newark has been trying for years to clean up the city but it's still a hopeless dump. The townies that live there complain all the time about how no $$ is being poured into the city for services, etc. Of course the city is broke. No one wants to visit a city filled with bigoted thugs in fear for their lives.
