I'm a Columbia prof... my classes are too exciting for students to fall asleep. :-) But if I do see a student sleeping, he/she is guaranteed to get called on!

I'm in college right now. I almost fell asleep during a class today, not (just) because the material was boring, but because I had been up late studying.
For all we know, he could have been doing that too. Also, if this was an early (9am or earlier) class, its often difficult to muster the energy to stay awake.
Mr. Franco is a human being, just like the rest of us. He is entitled to being flawed, just like we all are.

Aww... at least he went to class. I've skipped loads of classes while in University. And like someone said, he might have been busy doing work the night before - so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. So long he's not snoring, I can't see this being a huge deal.
Now, I thought he's doing a master at Columbia. That said, graduate level class in a lecture hall... just how many students do they have for a master level class? Yesh...

In my first semester I fell asleep during a lecture on Jane Austen. It wasn't so much because of the subject, though, but because the professor was just a total bore. Fortunately, I sat in the back row that day, so no one noticed.
