News: Mount Redoubt, Cal Thomas, McGill, Matt Drudge, Malaysia

roadConservative columnist Cal Thomas: Same-sex marriage battle lost. "To those on the political and religious right who are intent on continuing the battle to preserve 'traditional marriage' in a nation that is rapidly discarding its traditions, I would ask this question: What poses a greater threat to our remaining moral underpinnings? Is it two homosexuals living together, or is it the number of heterosexuals who are divorcing and the increasing number of children born to unmarried women, now at nearly 40 percent, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention"

"Jet Set and others in the adult industry are facing a double whammy: the worst recession in decades coupled with nothing less than a tectonic shift in the way people are consuming their products. 2. Indonesia. Jakarta is in Indonesia. Malaysia the country next to it.

  3. Thanks, Andy for mentioning about Harry Knox being on the White House advisory panel. Sadly, I don't think that will get any notice because when Obama does something right it is ignored.

  4. Regarding the very first snippet about Cal Thomas' article, I don't read it so much as a statement on the hypocrisy of the religious right, but more of a "call to action," if you will, for the religious right. The article in its entirety takes on a very different tone than the excerpt, one that I am not surprised to find from Cal Thomas.

The very first op-ed piece I ever responded to in the local paper was one written by Thomas, and his bigotry and misinformed conclusions are still as present as they ever were, perhaps just presented from a different angle now.

  5. Missed the festival, but visited the Shinto penis shrine, near Nagoya. There were huge wooden phalli (larger than the one the older gentleman is "mounting" in the picture), and hundreds of other penis carvings and natural objects resembling the peen.

Japanese women were offering Shinto prayers for fertility, that is, until they noticed the westerners (us) observing and broke into giggles. I didn't see any men offering prayers.

I still have an penis-icle candy from the gift shop.

  6. Earlier I post that I'd like to see BillO, Coulter, Rush and Hannity crash into a van carrying the Fred Phelp fucks and they all die a slow painful death as the cars explode. Throw in that when the cars explode a big chunk of metal flies into the air and slices Matt Drudge's head off.

  7. I love how Thomas discusses the fictional Harold Hill as predicting trouble for River City and stating that even he couldn't forsee the 'trouble' that would be brought to Iowa by the Supreme Court. He's equating conservatives to a character wishing to protect children from corruption, yet the character is a conman. I'm not sure if he sees the irony created by the parallelism.

  8. @Rick: Or the irony of using a musical in his attempt to vilify gay marriage. =)

  9. That quotation from the Cal Thomas column is quite unrepresentative. The piece is an ugly attack on marriage equality, although the craziest line has to be this: "Opponents of same-sex marriage vow to fight the ruling; but Iowa law requires a two-year process to amend the state constitution and with Democrats controlling the legislature and homosexuals a significant part of the party’s base, it is unlikely the ruling will be overturned." I mean, seriously, how many gay people are in Iowa? Even if they are all uberactivist Democracts, how "significant" a part of the party base could that be? What a schmuck.

  10. Cal Thomas is an evil fundie slimeball, no doubt, and Kelly's comment is apt; yet, at the same time, I do appreciate Thomas's public calling out of the hypocrisy of preachers about divorce, and fundies' use of same-sex marriage -- something that affects only "those people" -- to raise money.
