Illinois Civil Union Bill in Trouble?
The Illinois House is expected to vote on civil unions today. Equality Illinois info.
According to reports on Twitter from the Stonewall Democrats, the Illinois Civil Union bill is being blocked by conservative Rep. David Reis (217-782-2087). Rep. Greg Harris says they're being told to stay in Springfield thru Sunday night.

reis (r-olney) filed four query notes on the bill yesterday.
they have to resolve all of them before it can come to a vote.
fingers crossed.
illinois residents should definitely contact their reps and ask them to support civil unions.

Brett, do people think that was a deliberate stalling tactic? Is that ominous or does it happen with most legislation?

it seems like a deliberate stalling tactic.
the illinois review (a conservative blog) even lauds reis for his efforts to keep the gay-radical bill from a vote.

I see. So they're trying to run out the clock and delay the vote until next session? That's frustrating.

Sounds like Reis feels like his side will lose. Why else delay the vote?

K, it depends on when the bill was presented to the floor to be voted on. If it was less than two weeks ago, it can be considered typical. If the bill was present more than two weeks, it's a deliberate attempt to stall. Seems how the voting dead line has been extended three times over the past two months, it's deliberate.

I live in Chicago and I just called my representative, Mike Quigley to make sure he votes on this bill. He does support civil unions.

Two of the four notes were resolved yesterday. I learned a lot about query notes yesterday when I contacted everyone I knew that had anything to do with law in a panic. Blogger LawDork 2.0 said "don't worry too much." So I chilled out a little. You can follow the bill here: http://bit.ly/IbsUc. I'm going to be watching it closely today on Ameriqueer.blogspot.com, and I'm sure SDC will as well. IF YOU LIVE IN ILLINOIS, PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES! 217-782-2000!

My bad. They're all resolved now. Hit refresh, Phil! Duh!

Grant:
Quigley is a Congressman, not a state rep. Find out who your man or woman in springfield is.
