Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony Trailer Released

Gaytony

Rockstar games unveiled the trailer for its latest installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, to be made exlusively for the XBox 360. Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony focuses on Luis Lopez, the henchman to Tony Prince, Liberty City's premier nightclub entrepreneur. This installment focuses in the realm of upscale nightlife.

The game is due in October.

Watch the trailer, AFTER THE JUMP...

While I'm not a big player of these types of games, I appreciate that they're using "Pjanoo" by Eric Prydz as the soundtrack.

  1. Gay Tony? he looks like Tom Ford..which gave me the idea for a great new video game called Fashionista, where you have to work your way through the world of high fashion, geting invited to fashion shows and a-list parties on yachts...I haven't worked out if you shoot everyone in the head, like I would love a game where you get to beat the fuck out of Tom Ford and throw him out a window, maybe beat Karl Lagerfeld senseless with his stupid fan, kick Donatella ass with a swarofski crystal-bead studded bat...I'll work on it.

  2. This is an INSANELY popular video game franchise. I give Rockstar a lot of credit for doing something no game has ever done -- putting "gay" in the title.

Let's just hope the portrayals aren't terrible.

  3. Hanging from the side and/or back of a speeding train... this pleases me!

  4. May I remind everyone (for no reason): Rockstar included a scene in the last expansion pack (The Lost & Damned) that featured full-frontal male nudity (for comedic/shock effect, but still!).

  5. There's nothing gay in this crap.

  6. The action does look spectacular.

  7. Woohoo, I'm so looking forward to this, it looks awesome.

  8. While I'd like to view this as a moment of equality, the conventional wisdom is that they're pushing boundaries such as full-frontal nudity with men now so they can do the same later with women in a major release such as GTA 5 and then be able to claim they're treating the women no differently than the men. Still, it is what it is and I hope it's well done.

  9. So 20some years ago, when I came out to my mother I actually said to her "At least I'm not an axe-murderer" (hoping to illustrate the differences between being gay and those things that might be considered worse to her) I guess now we can be portrayed as both (minus the axe and plus the guns). This is progress? Hmmmm...And to top it all off, Andy, you posted about NOM in Iowa right after it. While portrayal of gay characters should be a step forward, somehow I don't feel good about this. Fodder for the real pigs - all I'm saying!

  10. According to USA Today, you play Luis Lopez, Dominican-born second-in-command to nightclub magnate Gay Tony. The drug-addled Tony, losing a grip on his empire, puts Luis in dangerous circumstances in an attempt to retain his power.

Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games and lead writer of the episode: “The situation with Tony’s drug problems gets worse and worse, and Tony gets more and more out of control."

  11. Oh...great! A game where you can shoot/stab/chainsaw-to death gay clubbers, or perhaps run them over with your stolen car.

And then there's Tony. Gay. Can't handle the pressures of his demanding empire. Must have heterotype Luis come and what? Wipe him out?

    Just say no. HELL NO.

  12. The GTA series has made fun of every demographic imaginable - every race, gender, age, creed, whatever you can think of - and every time they do it, people still get up in arms about it. I don't understand.

We're not special, guys - they make EVERYONE look bad. So just RELAX.

  13. What garbage. A game based on a criminal empire is morally wrong-then they add a gay guy in there,-oh gee, how justified~! Disgusting, immoral entertainment.

  14. Whilst I'm not a fan of the series I agree with Aaron. If we want to be treated as no different to anybody else it includes portrayals in such games.

Get over it. This is a step forward.

Mind you, I'm sure some of you would whine just as loud if we were the only group left out.

  15. For what it's worth, minority characters in other GTA games aren't exactly politically correct, so I'd be surprised if they are in this game.

What I'm saying is: Don't be surprised by stereotypically characters. It's what GTA does best - or worst, depending on who you ask.

  16. If you notice, it was made by Rockstar NORTH. Its basically the Montreal subsidiary in Canada. So I think it is going to be very gay friendly.

  17. I have to question whether the game title will sell a lot of copies.

  18. "Gay Tony - you're always gonna own this town. You ARE this town."

Looks AWESOME. Love the disco vibe. The only other thing it needs to be perfects is a Mothra cameo.

  19. Beta-Tested the game. You play as rookie LUIS who helps successful club owner "Gay Tony" stay on-top of the Liberty City Club Scene.Cleaning up seedyness and such. It's not all that bad. It's actually really well-done.

And ROGER RAMJET, you could beat up gays/women/the elderly/black/hispanic/etc. in all the other games...why would this one be different?

  20. "What garbage. A game based on a criminal empire is morally wrong-then they add a gay guy in there,-oh gee, how justified~! Disgusting, immoral entertainment."

Actually what's immoral is actually being a criminal. Playing a criminal in a video game... not so much.

  21. Eric,of course, but why play a criminal? is it something people see as desirable?
