  1. Wow. It would never occur to me to try to draw the US. Tracing paper would be crucial.

  2. The Capitol Institute is based in Sacramento.

Sacramento is nowhere near Alameda County.

Which means Ms. England drove 2 to 3 hours down there just to engage in gay bashing. This is precisely the sort of meddling, agony aunt behavior that we have to deal with in this bloody country. They'll abandon everything at the drop of a hat for bigotry. Some of these nutjobs even sold their house, moved to California, and took their kids out of school to campaign for Prop. 8 last year. It was on the evening news.

  3. The Lucie thing—cute, direct Whitney copy, not bad, but it is SO obvious that the judges, especially the odious Mr Cowell (sp?) are so cued in to finding their next Susan Boyle, ie sensation under the guise of innocence. What a wanker…

  6. I would have been more impressed, even if she'd sung it exactly like that, if she had correctly said "Dolly Parton's 'I will Always Love You.'"

  7. Oh Jonathan, give it a rest. Why should she say Dolly Parton's name when it was Whitney who made it an international hit AND made Dolly a very wealthy woman (and I doubt very seriously that she's complaining)? Songs are almost always attributed to the singer who had the biggest hit with it, so why should this case be any different? Chawl pleeze!

  8. did you say absurdist, mr. dobbs?
maybe you should reevaluate the meaning of that word, then open your mouth.

  9. Lou Dobbs is a dumpster bin

  10. um, no one should ever sing a whitney houston song. whitney shouldn't even sing her old songs.

  11. Is Fox actually arguing that no LGBT-based bullying goes on in elementary school?! That the slur "fag" isn't thrown around a lot, that "that's so gay" isn't a staple of everyday discourse and that perceived gayness or femininity (for boys)/masculinity (girls) doesn't earn children ridicule and scorn? That saying "I've got two dads" won't bring down the wrath of your peers?

What the hell do they classify as "incidents", anyway? 135? Would that be incidents where there were actual arrests? Because in elementary school, even if kids fight, the school usually doesn't call the police.

LGBT-based bullying does indeed occur at the elementary school level and Fox News needs to stop lying to our faces.

  12. Uh, sorry, it's Dolly Parton's hit song that Whitney Huston also recorded. Dolly was already a VERY famous and rich women while Whitney was still still sending out modeling headshots. Whitney made the song fanous to another generation, but, Dolly's version is so much less overwrought and Starsearchy, whereas Whitneys' just runs over the song like a Panzer division descending on a Polish suburb, Dolly sings from her heart while breaking yours.

    Just like Little Lucy did.

Why is that show SO much better than the US version?

  13. Lou Dobbs used to be a hero of mine, now, he's just a tool.

Obama is the LEAST partisan President in my memory, much to his detriment.

  14. lol. dolly's was a country hit. hardly as good as ms. houston's. get over it.

dobbs is a pig. haven't his veins clogged yet?

  15. I think I agree with the Black gentleman in the Fox News piece. Maybe they should just have an anti-bullying curriculum that covers everyone.

    Posted by: Matt | Sep 9, 2009 9:26:09 AM

  16. Derek, I never said that Dolly was not already famous or wealthy. But my dear, that song made her MUCH wealthier than she already was. Overwrought or not, the fact remains that Whitney's version sold 12 million copies WORLDWIDE; Dolly had a hit with it 3 times by herself and still never reached those type of sales. Dolly's hit, but Whitney's MEGA-hit. Who do you think is going to be remembered for it first?

  17. Dealing with schoolyard bullying without mentioning race, disabilities, gender, or sexual orientation?

Is that similar to doing Drivers' Education without mentioning breaking or parallel parking?

The notion that you can somehow address the inappropriateness of sexual taunting without mentioning the word "sex" is hilariously absurd. And it is indicative of the sort of puritanical nonsense that's all too common in America.
