Canadian Lesbian Who Was Attacked in Front of School, Kids, Testifies

You may remember last year I posted about Anji Dimitriou and Jane Currie, who were attacked by a man outside a school in front of kids while picking up their six-year-old son.

Dimitriou told a court yesterday that Mark Scott, another student's father, punched her until her face "burst open." Scott has pleaded not guilty.

The Leader Post reports:Oshawa

"Anji Dimitriou said Scott called her and Jane Currie 'dyke bitches' and asked, 'Which one of you f—— 'men' talked to my kid?'

Dimitriou, 31, said he spat on her face and punched her twice, once near her left eye and again on the left side of her head.

He also punched Currie so hard her face 'burst open' and she started bleeding, Dimitriou said.

Dimitriou and Currie admitted to swearing at Scott but denied ever physically attacking him.

But defence lawyer Mark Jacula said Dimitriou anticipated a confrontation and waited for Scott outside her car, telling the court she punched Scott in the jaw, broke his glasses and gave him a mark on his forehead.

Currie, 38, wept during her testimony when she told the court of her six-year-old son witnessing the attack. 'I remember hearing (him) crying,' she said. 'I've never heard a scream like that.'"

Dimitriou and Currie received an outpouring of support from the local community following the attack.

So much for Canada being safe. Even if his glasses were broken, it’s a bit ludicrous if not overkill to make a bloody mess of two people in front of a school and your kids. And I thought Calgary was bad.

@ Keith: One homophobe attacking two lesbians in the City of Oshawa does NOT make Canada unsafe.

Let’s celebrate our tolerance, acceptance & diversity.

I’ve been in MUCH worse fights.

3 adults got into a heated argument which degenerated into a physical fight. I googled a little on this story and it appears the 2 ladies did exchange harsh words and even WAITED for the guy to return so they could continue the argument. The guy was also physically hit.

Moral: IF you’re going to either pick a fight, or respond to incitement, be prepared for possible consequences.

Ladies: MALES are hardwired by nature to physically respond in such situations. DON’T be surprised if ‘Words’ degenerate into fists.

@ Dickster: I know that, I live in Canada. Abroad we have a reputation for acceptance, progressiveness and diversity while in reality we can be just as unforgiving and bigoted as the next nation. I should have phrased that more carefully; things like this just serve as a reminder of the problems we still have and the apathy that can build up here.

John, this still qualifies as a homophobic attack. He called them homophobic names on this and a previous occasion at least. He is also a man, so attacking two women is not going to look good unless he can say that they were trying to maim or kill him. This is not an occasion of three men getting into a fight, or three women fighting, and yes women sometimes do hit other women. You sound a little misogynistic, no offence.
