Daniel Rodriguez, Second Suspect in NYC Gay Bashing, Brought In

Rodriguez

Daniel Rodriguez, the second suspect in last week's savage gay bashing who was arrested in Norfolk, Virginia on Tuesday, was returned to New York City last night.

Watch the video, AFTER THE JUMP...

The suspect's sister, Christina Rodriguez, told the New York Daily News that her brother does not hate gays because he has gay relatives and once had a gay roommate: "If he's guilty of anything, he'll man up to it."

Yesterday, police released disturbing surveillance video of the attack.

The good news is that Jack Price, the 49-year-old victim, has been taken off a respirator and is in stable condition. Price underwent surgery last night.

NOTE from Commenter Nathan James: "There will be a March and rally protesting this horrendous attack on Saturday, in Queens. The March begins at 2PM at College Point Blvd. and 20th Avenue, proceeds past the site of the attack, and culminates in a Rally at Poppenhausen Playground on 14th Avenue. Take a 7 train to Main Street, then Q65 bus to 20th Ave. I strongly encourage everyone in the NYC area who can do so, to come out and make a bold statement against homophobic violence."

  1. I love it when the relatives of a homo-hating,gay-bashing,sub-human thug, denies his bigotry and hatred toward homosexuals to the point where he'd actually go out of his way to deliberately attack and physically harm an innocent person (Male) who just so happens to be gay or someone they suspect to be gay.His sister needs the Cher Moonstruck smack in the face *smack* *SMACK* SNAP OUT OF IT!

Throw this Mother Fucker in Prison and throw away the key.He should not only be charged with hate crime (since in reality his attack was motivated by his hatred for gays) he should be charged with attempted murder as well.Being that he almost killed an innocent person.Sick bastard!

I wish Price a speedy recovery and will soon be able to continue his recovery in the comfort of his own home.

  3. If these two people are the animals who perpetrated this attack, they should spend a huge chunk of their lives in prison, and should be required to reimburse Mr. Price and/or his insurance company for the insane cost of his care.

  4. I'm not usually one for revenge...but I'm glad that Aleman's and Rodriguez's lives are now officially OVER. what pathetic punks

  5. Well Cristina (sister) honey you are just as much of a dumbazz as your little brother. I hope he likes gay men, because some gay men or some straight horny men are going to wear his butt out in prison, where he should spend a lot of years I hope.

I too am sick of these idiot apologizers who never mention the victim but are always so quick to announce that "he doesn't hate gay people." BS Cristina, send the little prick a card every Christmas..maybe he'll be out in thirty or forty years. Pray like hell girl because if the guy dies, he may never be out of prison. Stupid little turd.

  6. Look at precedent this year. Black and Latino men kill fags. I'm a white homo. If I see a black, latino or any male of color coming at me waving his fists, shouting anti-Gay slurs I'm going to kill him. I'm trained in amateur boxing and mma and own a gun.

I will kill him. Because when it comes down to it my life is worth more than the piece of shit trying to attack me.

How will the courts respond to my STRAIGHT PANIC defense???

  7. Unfortunately, that's what these suspects always say when they're in court.

"I'm completely innocent of this hate crime because I have [insert minority group here] friends"

    Posted by: John | Oct 15, 2009 12:13:41 PM

  8. Well obviously he's innocent since apparently he once knew a gay person.

  9. Mark...as a black/latino gay man, I find your GROSS generalization of black & latin men almost as bad as this beating.

I am in NO WAY condoning what these idiots did. Not all black/latin men want to harm white men. Just as im sure not all white men want to harm black or latin men.

In a large city where the majority of the population is minority, it might seem like the majority of gay hate crimes are committed by men of color. If you lived in Amarillo or Kansas City or some place in middle America, I'm sure the majority of hate crimes would be committed by white men. Would you be just as scared?

Put away your race card, it's not needed. People need to be based on their individual issues/situations not the color of their skin.

I don't care what color a person is, if they have the balls to commit a crime they should have the balls to suffer the consequences of their actions!

  10. Riiiighhttt, Ms. Rodriguez, your brother was so determined to man up to his guilt that he fled to a different state. And the "he has gay relatives and friends" claim is only a modern spin on the racist's "I'm not prejudiced, I've got black friends." If Daniel Rodriguez really did have gay relatives and friends, that alleged fact certainly didn't give him pause before he allegedly beat up Jack Price.

@Mark--Your statement would have sat a little better with me had you just referred to any guy of any skin color threatening to violently attack you. As is, it came across as a) racist and b) grounds for arguing premeditated murder should you actually kill a homophobe violently attacking you.

  11. @ Carlos

You beat me to it.BTW Im glad Im not the only one who felt that Mark's blatantly racist comment just screams "White Power".Mark evidently does not live in New York City and it shows. But then I get called out as a racist for speaking the truth about the blatant ignorance, disregard, disrespect, and resentment many white gay men show toward gay men of color. They are just classic "pot calling the kettle black" (no pun intended)

Notice that Mark is living proof of what Ive been talking about

If you see them bashing a black or Latino gay person, what will you do? Applaud?

For every one inter-racial gay bashing incident there are probably five hundred INTRA-racial gay bashings in this country...in this world.

White gays who use these incidents as an excuse to rant against black and Latino people were hateful towards us long before these terrible events (but yet, false issue) ever surfaced.

"Because when it comes down to it my life is worth more than the piece of shit trying to attack me."

Yeah, to your kind, that "piece of shit" includes the President of the United States. That aint nothin' new in this country.

  15. Mark, I am not saying you are a racist person, but your comments are racist and insensitive to gays who are black and Latino.

Homophobia is not color blind. Lately, the media has introduced us to white, black and Hispanic homophobic people.

Now, just like the coward homophobic people, Mark likely will ignore his insensitive remarks just like typical racist cowards do.

Racists and homophobic people are all the same.

  16. Unfortunately, any time you have a crime by a member (or members) of one race against a member (or members) of another race, it stirs up the same racial animosities that have existed throughout written history (and even in ancient fairy tales and mythology like the bible).

It doesn't matter whether the victim was wronged BECAUSE he was [Gay/Black/Jewish/Anything Else] or if the the criminal just really wanted to kill someone and just happened to stumble upon a [Gay/Black/Jewish/Anything Else] person. Some people are always going to be suspicious of people that aren't like them.

I can't speak to why someone is so afraid of someone's mere existence that they need to kill them. Drugs? Maybe his father or brother has been raping him for years and he is afraid to retaliate against them, so he retaliated against an innocent? Maybe it took to long for him to get his Big Mac?

Or maybe he's just a stupid fucking punk who doesn't know how to live in a society of diverse individuals.

    Who can say...?

  17. Mark : I live in NYC, and I've lived from time to time in all-white areas of the country. You're basically correct, as to who commits the majority of gay-bashings, but it's always wrong to hold EVERY African-American and Hispanic (actually, most Hispanics are for legalizing gay marriage)responsible for these kinds of things. Everybody is still an individual.

  18. Fuck your projections of "racism". You think I'm at all concerned because some people color hurl the "R" word?! I can love my president and hate Blacks and Latinos who attack and kill Gay men, like Robert Hannah and Daniel Rodriguez . I love Al Gore and hate George Bush. Does that make me a self-loathing white person?

    @ Carlos

"Mark...as a black/latino gay man, I find your GROSS generalization of black & latin men almost as bad as this beating."

Wow. One Gay man is dead another hospitalized with broken ribs, broken jaw on a respirator but their lives are equal to your hurt feelings...just because you're black? Wow.

    @ Carlos

"Put away your race card, it's not needed. People need to be based on their individual issues/situations not the color of their skin."

Asking us all to ignore the race and racially charged homophobic hatred of Black and Latino men who kill Gay men (of all races) is like asking us to ignore the race of Klansmen who terrorized American Blacks. The stupidity in that is remarkable.

    @ DerrickfromPhilly

"If you see them bashing a black or Latino gay person, what will you do? Applaud?"

Um...NO. They're not killing Black and Latino Gay men. They're killing white Gay men. If they were killing Gay men of color, or if murders of Gay men of color were reported, I'd be against that too. How dumb are you to assume otherwise?!

    @ DerrickfromPhilly

"that "piece of shit" includes the President of the United States. That aint nothin' new in this country."

Yeah because, clearly, I equate Charles Manson with Elie Wiesel simply because they're both white. I NEVER equated the President with killers Derrick. YOU DID. How racist is it of you, Derrick, to equate Obama with homophobic killers?

    @ Letsfaceit

I didn't say "every [black American] and [Latino]" is guilty for the actions of some. YOU DID. I said any black or latino guy coming at me waving his fists or brandishing a weapon is gonna get his shit handed to him. I'm not gonna stop at that moment to ponder how "racist" I might look and instead run away. FUCK THAT.

I refuse to die in a pile of blood on the street. If that means enduring your sanctimonious accusations of racism I can live with that. I'm really not sorry that I'm not part of your politically correct Urban Gay Fantasy.

    Posted by: Mark | Oct 15, 2009 8:36:18 PM

  19. Mark : Don't yell at me! I basically agree with you. And I'm not politially-correct. I'm just saying that the way you phrase things, whether you mean it or not, comes across as critical of every Black and Latino out there, even the innocent ones.

    Posted by: Let'sFaceIt | Oct 15, 2009 8:53:36 PM

  20. I'm white. I don't hate anyone because of their race, ethnicity, or gender. I was born in NYC, raised in Boston ( inner-city.) I've lived in diverse environments my entire life. I've never lived in a suburb, let alone a rural area/small town.

Anti-white racism is a big issue in urban areas. It is wide-spread and very common among non-whites. There's a common saying most white people have probably never heard: There's only two kinds of boys; cowboys and white-boys. White men are often in particular perceived by inner-city, 'ghetto' non-white men (and woman) as pussies. This is because most white men they see in their life don't have the insecure, machismo swagger ghetto dudes have, so in their eyes, white guys are weak and pussies. GAY white men are considered the ULTIMATE weak pussy.

Posted by: John in Boston | Oct 15, 2009 9:22:47 PM

  21. And I should add an 'old' gay white man is considered the uber ultimate pussy and soft-target.

Posted by: John in Boston | Oct 15, 2009 9:30:31 PM

  22. @ Letsfactit

I get it. Still, I fail to see how vowing to defend myself against a Black or Latino assailant is "critical of every Black and Latino out there". Especially considering the anti-Gay violence perpetrated BY THEM this week alone. To imagine I am tarring all people of color as criminals is a tremendous leap.

One year after a Adrien Alstad, a Gay waiter, was killed in DC by an adolescent black male (http://www.metroweekly.com/gauge/?ak=1200) I was stalked on the streets of DC by two cheap little black punks (around age 14) on bikes who claimed to have guns and threatened to kill me several times. I stood up to them and chased them off. I didn't call the police and NONE of the stupid white faggots on the street around me who witnessed the whole thing did shit to help me. Should I be afraid to call them out too? So in addition to thinking all Black and Latino men are homicidal criminals I will now be accused of hating all white Gay men because they're all pussies who dont' have each other's backs?!

I guess the race of Black brats throwing piss at a crowd of Gays and attacking a lesbian couple returning from the National Equality Rally last Sunday is irrelevant too???

    http://dykedramaproductions.blogspot.com/2009/10/i-was-victim-of-hate-crime.html

I hear where you're coming from LFI. I'm not hating on all people out there.

    Posted by: Mark | Oct 15, 2009 9:33:10 PM

  23. JohnInBoston : All of that is true, too, but there are still a lot of exceptions to all those rules. But I know you're speaking in general.

    Posted by: Let'sFaceIt | Oct 15, 2009 9:36:33 PM

  24. @ Letsfaceit

Let's examine this. I have to be careful how I "phrase things" because I am perceptibly "critical of every Black and Latino out there, even the innocent ones."

You mean the same way Black and Latino Gay bashers think all Gay men are evil, filthy, predatory, pedophilic, promiscuous, disease vetoring effeminate whores who should be beaten and killed?

In spite of that I am supposed to be careful I do not offend them? Where are ALL Blacks and Latinow when these crimes occur? How are their cultures changing to address these issues and adapt? I don't see Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson getting involved and condemning this shit.

    Posted by: Mark | Oct 15, 2009 9:48:04 PM

  25. letsfaceit:

'Progressives' essentially hate on white males (men or boys.) ESPECIALLY poor, working-class, white males, i.e. 'rednecks', 'white-trash', et al. White 'Progressives' will say things about white males, again especially poor, working-class, blue-collar, that they would NEVER (at least in public) say about ANY other demographic. It's their way of showing they're 'down' with the 'oppressed' minorities. That it isn't they who 'oppress' them, it's those awful, racist poor whites and rednecks. Ridiculous of course because poor whites and 'rednecks' are as powerless as anybody.

This is a problem for me. I'm gay. I'm also a white male raised in a working class environment who isn't bourgeoisie metro-sexual. My accent, regardless of my good education, screams 'low' class. Even though I'm educated, and in most cases in my experience, more cosmopolitan than most gay petite and haute bourgeoisie, I'm still often judged and stereotyped by them to my face in a manner they wouldn't dare if I was a black man or Puerto Rican.
