New York Gov to Ask Senators to Act on Marriage Equality Next Week
"Later, Paterson aides said he'll also ask lawmakers to act on a bill to legalize same-sex marriage in a special session next Wednesday. 'The governor has always said that same-sex marriage will be on the agenda,' a spokeswoman said. A source said gay marriage will be on the agenda to force the Senate to deal with it one way or the other. Paterson's political team sees the issue as one way to start raising his historic low poll numbers."
Hopefully this time things won't erupt in chaos.
UPDATE: AP picks up the story. "Supporters have quietly been trying to rebuild a coalition of 32 senators needed to pass a bill in the chamber, which has a 32-30 Democratic majority."

I love this guy so much. It's so sad that the friendliest, most principled, most proactive politician gay people have ever had in their corner -- anywhere, bar none -- is all but doomed to a loss in the upcoming election.

While I admire Paterson's stance on gay rights it's a stretch to call him principled. He hired his former chief of staff Charles O'Bryne who had resigned in disgrace after being caught for $300K in back taxes. O'Bryne now is called a 'volunteer' for Paterson, while working in the private sector, he will not say who he works for.
Then there is Paterson's lying about trashing Kennedy, blaming his staff then admitting it was him. He also lied to Obama that he was choosing her. Or his recent statement that he only ran for Lt Gov as a plan to get appointed to Hillary's Senate seat.
The man is just not too bright, or honest, not to mention unelectable.
