  1. perhaps I missed something in the video, but it hardly seemed as if the NOM Exec Dir. was "flustered" by those questions. In fact, I think it was quite the opposite.
I don't buy his answers, but from a PR standpoint he did a good job of turning the questions back on to the questioner while taking the position that the basis for the questions were unfair, unfounded and unconstitutional. Whether they were or not was not addressed.

  2. Sounded to me like Mr Brian Brown slapped back at Mr Catania and was not in the least flustered. He seemed to stand his ground.

  3. have to agree. not flustered. a tad indignant at times, but i can't say i blame him.

  4. I agree, too. I was expecting a bit of stumbling over words and poorly researched accusations, but those only seemed to come from Catania.
Definitely unimpressed by the path that was chosen for pursuit.

On the other hand, listening to Mr Brown deflect questions and play the martyr made him and Maggie and their group sound more than a little scared. Their golden calf - Ms. Prejean - may be falling hard soon if the video rumors are true. And while they have to shamefully carry their idols off the pedestal, gay people are gathering more and more allies. Gays will never be 10% of the population, yet they are garnering 40%+ acceptance with voters. This number will continue to grow, and when NOM looks to history to see how many minorities won their rights at the ballot box - none - NOM will learn that the polarizing which they have fed on will eventually destroy them. Judging from voter turnout in Maine, a lot of religious people didn't get out and vote. I'm guessing many of these voters are like people i spoke with in California who felt that though their not really sure about gay marriage, they don't think it is very Christ-like to actively vote against someone's perceived rights. Unfortunately, these people didn't feel convinced enough to go to the polls to vote against taking away those rights. But today, I am happy to say a few of them have now stated if there is a gay ballot measure they will be going to the polls to support equality because the religious rhetoric is becoming too divisive.

  5. With Brown it’s all “up is down”, “black is white“, “yes is no”. I find it stunning how he keeps arguing that the charges against NOM are unconstitutional and founded in religious bigotry when, indeed, it is NOM itself that is promoting unconstitutional actions fueled by the lowest form of religious bigotry (don’t get me started on separation of church and state as he seems to hopscotch all over that line as well). Typical, slithering Neo-Con crap. Accuse your attackers of what you, yourself, are actually guilty of.

And as far as sounding flustered, Brown certainly didn’t sound confident. He seemed incredibly nervous and near tears while Catania was cool and collected (and not pulling a bunch of specious talking points out of his tail like Brown). Good PR standpoint for NOM? Hardly.

  6. One last thing, I agree with JONNY that the line of questioning was disappointing. Why doesn’t anyone come out and call a spade a spade? Isn’t the robbing a minority (or any citizen) of equal rights unconstitutional? Isn’t singling out GLBT people for scorn because your religion (supposedly) says you are supposed to a form of religious bigotry? Isn’t what NOM is doing profoundly un-American?

  7. re: "gays will never be 10% of the population..."

What? How do YOU know that?
sounds like an opinion dressed up as fact.

  8. OK. Even if we say someday gays will be 15% of the population - however statistically improbable - all I'm saying is that a small minority group (gays) - as opposed to African-American or Latino-American minority groups which may increase out of a minority in the US - is gathering more support than most minority groups have in history. So in the future a new phenomenon of minorities being respected by the majority as equal human beings may surface through voting trends.

  9. I love Dan Savage. I'd watch him read the phone book.

  10. What, Savage couldn't find a way to blame Blacks in a 90% white state? Dan, me thinks you're slippin'. Oh yeah and fuck you.

  11. Dan Savage gets it, and I'm so glad every time he gets behind a mircrophone. Too many people are unwilling to call, BULLSHIT.

  12. Blame blacks? Oh dear!! African Americans, whether they ars 5 or 15 % of the population have no standing whatsoever to comment on the issue of marriage. Their divorce rate is over 50% and their out of wedlock births is over 75%. They are bigots. They excuse the absent fathers, but exclude gay and lesbian parents. Hypocrites.

  13. My, my, C'OC. Divorce rates over 50%? 75% out of wedlock births?

Tell me, is it difficult pulling those "facts" out your ass with your head in the way?
I guess horse-fucking has its advantages, huh?

And I would imagine that being an absent father is much better than sending the kids to Catholic church to be fucked by priests, while being taught to hate queers.

Yeah, you whites are really teaching us Blacks a thing or two.

  14. Q, if you don't believe that the Black community has a major homophobia problem, far more widespread than in any other demographic, then you have your head way up your butthole.
