House Iced in Detroit

Icehouse

Artists in Detroit have encased one of the city's 20,000 abandoned houses in ice as an architectural installation intended to raise awareness about the city's plight in the recession and the epidemic of foreclosures it has seen. They have a blog chronicling their efforts.

  1. Detroit's plight is easy to understand. It's a high taxation state and most people work for the auto industry which has cut back. I saw an interview on CNN the other day with an auto worker who has been unemployed since 2005. He is just waiting for the auto industry to call him back to work. Personally if I was unemployed for that long I'd try to get training in a new profession or leave Detroit but hey I'm one of those self starters who don't wait for the government to bail me out or fix my life.
