Rick & Bubba DJ Didn't Mean To Offend You
At least he didn't say he meant it as a compliment.
Rick Burgess, part of the homphobic DJ duo of Rick & Bubba who said, about the LGBT community, "There is, absolutely, no way, impossible, to biblically justify this lifestyle," has issued a message about his remarks. And no, it's not an apology.
To Whom It May Concern,
The comments that were made by me on the Rick and Bubba show concerning the president's proclamation for the month of June to be declared national gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender month were made from my Biblical world view and by no means was intended to offend or alienate anyone who doesn't share my point of view.
Sincerely,
Rick Burgess
Watch a message to Rick and Bubba from this year's particpants of Alabama's PrideFEST, AFTER THE JUMP.

...but it does, Blanche, it does offend.
So stop doing it.

Who cares what some ugly, fat turd cracker DJ thinks of us. Stop giving these fools what they want by paying attention to them. You are playing right into their hands.

I've droned on about this many times; but I'll say it again. It is still somewhat socially acceptable in this country to make rude, disparaging remarks about gay people. If he had made this comment about Black History month, he would have been soundly ridiculed by the mainstream press. The mainstream press treats hating gays as a religious freedom issue and therefore it's a legitimate point of view - which is complete bullshit as we all know. The bible was also used to justify slavery and now no one would dare say slavery is a religious freedom
issue now. What to do? I guess just keep pointing out the ridiculous hypocrisy and encourage all gay people to come out of the closet. In fact, there should be a bigger push amongst all gay blogs, media, organizations, etc. to promote National Coming Out Day. I looked it up on Wikipedia and apparently HRC owns this? They need to SHOUT about it continuously. Coming out is our best weapon against this kind of crap. Can you imagine the impact if this October, millions of gay people simultaneously came out of the closet? Fox News would and the right wing haters would have a major cow.

...but all the vitriolic comments about tues lgbt white house reception? maybe not such a 100% bad idea after all, huh? perhaps it's partly to show something to the rick and bubbas in the world...it's always gonna be step by step people....

Christian rednecks fuck their sisters.
To all those Christian rednecks out there, this was made from my angry queer world view and by no means was intended to offend or alienate anyone who doesn't share my point of view.

Their bigotry is matched only by their inability to write a sentence.

I have yet to see an American in public life who is allowed to have a Judeo-Christian world view.
Posted by: Strepsi | Jun 20, 2010 2:54:27 PM
I mean anything OTHER than one.
You never hear anyone saying "I was simply expressing my atheist world view and I hope Christians will understand."
Do you?
Posted by: Strepsi | Jun 20, 2010 2:55:26 PM
That's because it's impossible for anyone to "express their atheist world view and hope christians will understand". Atheism isn't view about the world...LOL! Christianity is...christianity does tell people what they should do and makes statements about the way things are...atheism doesn't.

What gross ignorance. there is ample support for gay partnerships in the Christian/jewish text, i.e. the bible:
(1) the story of David and Jonathan, both gay
(2) the story of Naomi and Ruth, both gay.

yes, because clearly your intepretation of the bible is going to make a difference to theirs..."that's not my own personal jesus!"
Splendid. I've never witnessed a more wasteful exercise than arguing scripture with a fundamentalist on the matter of gay rights or anything...it's hilarious, though..."my jesus is better than yours!" to "Nuh ah! My jesus is better!"
Posted by: TANK | Jun 20, 2010 4:12:14 PM
Well, that makes it all better. This guy manned up and made an unequivocal and sincere apology. The world needs more of this attitude.

Free speech people....he has every right to express his opinion. We also have every right to BOYCOTT their show and all of their sponsors such as FTD and Vermont Teddy Bear.
Lets not be too quick to take away some ones rights. Yours might be next.

My only question to his comment is "Why does our lifestyle NEED to be Biblically justified?", any more than it needs to be justified by any other book. Its just a book and not everyone subscribes to what it contains.

F*** these BIGOTS.
That's what they are. They are so UN-American they should stop taking up so much place on this planet.
May they rot in their own living hell .... because Christianity is definitely NOT what they are practicing.

If a radio station in your city broadcasts their show, write to the station's FCC file to complain about this hate speech.

Do you really mean to tell me that this guy couldn't even directly address the people he offended? I mean, I wasn't devastated by his remarks, but shit! When are people going to own up to their own intolerance and bigotry?
Posted by: Jesus | Jun 21, 2010 12:07:22 AM
I wish people would start asking these kinds of fools what they mean by the word 'lifestyle'. Do they really think that all gay people have the same lifestyle? Do all straight people have the same lifestyle? I think they actually don't have any idea what they mean. They should start having to explain exactly what they mean.. or what they think they mean.. or what they think it's supposed to mean. Bigots.

The reason that there is all of this controversy is because we are finally on the cusp of overturning Prop 8 in California. No redneck DJ can take that away from us, it is quite a magnificent feat; once the Prop 8 decision has been made known. If overturned California will be the 7th state that will have gay marriage. Mr. DJ can eat his words then.

Arrraggggaaahhhh! I AM SO SICK OF THESE APOLOGIES! THIS IS NOT AN APOLOGY!
"Hey, I hate old people. They smell and are completely useless, They should all be raped to death"
"I apologize for any offense garnered from my earlier comments, I did not intend to offend anyone with my opinion."
FUCK THAT, If you vocalize your fucking opinion then you are offending some people, no matter what. Stop apologizing like it means anything! You are making apologies worthless!

Hey Rick & Bubba,
Since you're so into your biblical worldview, why don't you stop engaging in the deadly sin of gluttony and lose some friggin weight? Hit the gym, you fat fucks.
