Going to Provincetown? Watch Out for Great White Sharks

Large groups of seals have become more prevalent in the waters off of Cape Cod in recent years, and that has attracted predators like Great White Sharks, though this is the first one spotted this far north in Massachusetts this summer.

A family at the beach on the Provincetown/Truro border between High Head and Race Point Beach watched a Great White Shark attack a seal and got most of it on film.

  1. Great whites aren't news in New England. We are only seeing them now because of climactic changes and warmer ocean temps. P-Town's is struggling with low tourism. Please don't further aid to its decline by posting negative info like this.

  4. Yes, this is a positive! I just spent a week there and was bored to tears despite avoiding the bars and Commercial St. like the plague. A gr8 white sighting would have made it more tolerable.

  5. Eh, no skin off my nose. (But poor seal!) The closest I usually get to the beach is when I go sit by the pool at the Provincetown Inn.

  10. The only reason tourism is DOWN in Ptown is that its too damn expensive now! Ptown has priced itself out of the average person's budget...the real sharks are the inn keepers and real estate agents!
