Iowa Radio Host Jan Mickelson: ‘Homosexuality is Intrinsically Promiscuous’ and AIDS is God’s ‘Invention’ to Punish It

Mickelson

More hideousness from Iowa, now on the airwaves.

Iowa radio host Jan Mickelson has spoken out in defense of Iowa congressional candidate Jeremy Walters’ remarks that AIDS is God’s punishment for homosexuality, the Iowa Independent’s Jason Hancock reports:

Said Mickelson on his radio show:

“For the chairman of the Republican Party to say, ‘AIDS doesn’t discriminate,’ well of course it does. It discriminates against people who engage in stupid behavior…Lung disease doesn’t discriminate, but it’s probably a good idea to stop smoking…Cirrhosis of the liver doesn’t discriminate, but you should probably dry out and stop drinking like you’ve been doing. Heart disease and diabetes doesn’t discriminate, but you should probably take that weight off, lard butt. Of course lifestyle oriented diseases tend to reward those lifestyle afflictions disproportionately to the behavior of those doing them. This isn’t rocket science.”

Mickelson adds:

“So, does God punish homosexuality? Does he punish sodomy? Well, no, he doesn’t get off his throne and say, ‘Hey, I’m gonna get that guy.’ Well not directly. Most of God’s laws, which another way of saying God’s law would be natural law, that is, law that is consistent with the nature of the universe because it was built in such a way, most of God’s laws are self enforcing. God doesn’t have to do anything. So if you skydive without a parachute, does God punish people who do that? No, but one of his inventions does. Gravity. If you skydive without a parachute, you’re going to die. Should you blame God for that?”

Mickelson says promiscuity “defines the lifestyle” of homosexuality: “Homosexuality is intrinsically promiscuous, because it violates the design of our bodies. There is no safe way to do that.”

Yeah! Suck on that Pediatric AIDS organizations across America. You’re babies have AIDS because of GOD’s law. Burn on you! Jan Mickelson sure knows right and wrong.

Heck, lets throw in some rape victims for good measure, they surely must have deserved it as well. Thanks JanICE!

  2. gayalltheway says

These people’s level of ignorance and bigotry is truly unbelievable.

And I like how you juxtaposed the word “hideousness” and that picture of him! I most certainly agree! Any woman (assuming he’s straight) who married him is probably blind or just as hideous as him (i.e. Maggie Gallagher)

  3. Zach says

Oy, the fallacious reasoning is giving me headaches.

Why does God make such laws? Why does there have to be gravity, or oxygen? Obviously it serves a purpose, but if God exists, created everything and is in fact omnipotent, God defines the purpose in the first place. So why have gravity? Why build the world this particular way, with so many particular rules? If you know so much about homosexuality and gravity, do tell what’s God’s thinking behind these rules.

  4. Mike says

His argument is ridiculous. Extending his logic, you would never fly (plane crashes), drive (car crashes), shake hands, kiss (flu), etc. AIDS isn’t a gay disease as we all know. This is a tired conservative strategy of cherry picking facts and twisting them to justify their bigoted ideology – and how is homosexuality intrinsically promiscuous by violating the design of our bodies? What that says to me is that any sexual behaviour that is done without the goal of reproduction is promiscuous. I think alot a straight married couples would disagree with that definition.

  5. Sean says

When is anyone going to discuss the overwhelming amount of straight anal porn? The idea that anal sex (‘sodomy’ is biblical, let’s get rid of it) is only a gay activity is ludicrous.

I bet this guy has a kick-ass theory for breast cancer.

  6. NoSleep4Sam says

A: Gays are promiscuous and not in committed relationships, having sex with whomever.

B: Some want to get married and be in committed relationships and only have sex with each other.

    A: FUCK NO

  7. jash says

It’s people like this a==hole who give all Iowans a bad name. I am proud to be a gay person who was born and raised in Iowa. This guy’s opinion by no means reflects the views of most Iowans, who are an educated, compassionate people! Shame on him for spreading this politically-motivated and morallly-reprehensible rhetoric!

  8. Bart says

It’s so hard to argue stupid. And this ass clown is yet another raging idiot. Yes, Jan, God actually sits on a throne. You know, on a cloud in the sky. And I bet he’s white too (because AIDS is more prevelent in the black community.) And he probably talks in a big booming voice.

This whole connection now between God’s law and natural law (you know, those things that actually have no real definition) when for centuries, the Church did everything possible to seperate God from nature, saying God’s law was devine and everything else was Earthly. But I guess Jan, clearly being both a Biblical scholar and an expert in infectious diseases, knows better. You know, because the smartest people in the world are on the radio in Iowa.

(p.s. – I do understand why he’s on the radio, he has a face that is perfect for the medium. sorry, couldn’t resist.)

  9. Sean says

I have to ask the question, “Why do we have to keep pretending that this mythical God everyone uses as their handy-dandy excuse to hate, even exists?” It bogs down the whole discussion. Nail them for their personal hate and leave “God” out of it.

  10. Matt26 says

Idiotic. Stupid. How come he has access to God and knowledge of God’s plans?
@Jash trust me, not all of us are as idiotic as he is, and we don’t stereotype people living in Iowa by one man’s “ideas”. Be proud of who you are and where you come from.

  11. CoMo'mo says

Jash: you’re right, most Iowans have been rational enough, generally good and mostly kind. But it’s the others who are making news and encouraging the growth of something ugly to replace corn and beans. Former Iowan here, too.

  12. dan says

What an awful thing to say.
So what about every other illness? Is it a result of other sins commited?

All sort of innocent people have Cancer,HIV/AIDS, Diabetes.. etc.

That is a very uneducated man

  13. TampaZeke says

@JASH, I hope you’re right but, to be honest, I’m not feeling really confident that you’re statement about how most Iowans feel is accurate.

I remember hearing the same thing about Wisconsites and Californians and Mainers.

I guess we’ll have a better idea of how accurate your claim is come November.

  14. TANK says

How is anything intrinsically anything? What does intrinsic mean? Well, one version is that intrinsic means something that individuates (distinguishes) something from something else independently of anything else. So, if homosexuality were intrinsically promiscuous, homosexuals who didn’t engage in promiscuous behavior would fail to be homosexual… So that can’t be what he means, because it’s false. So what if he were saying that despite any possible way of confirming the statement through observation of behavior, homosexuality were intrinsically promiscuous? That is, gay men and women who didn’t engage in promiscuous behavior were still “intrinsically promiscuous”? That entails that promiscuity has nothing to do with behavior… So, going by that, one can be a murderer without having taken a single life…

I don’t understand how people like this smiling turd can take themselves seriously.

  15. Bob says

In the immortal words of Julia Sugarbaker, “If God was handing out sexually transmitted diseases as a form of punishment for sinning, you, Jan, would be a the free clinic ALL the time!”

  16. Lexxvsl says

I don’t know, what would he think about his God’s reason if some madman attacks him with an HIV infected syringe effectively giving him AIDS? That would be so sweet. I guess he would ponder that his God is imperfect or powerless. Or non existent. Mmm.. no, he would device another stupid idea.

  17. Tara says

Who is this guy? Heart disease and diabetes are mostly heredity. Diabetes effects a generation and then skips. My children not me most likely have it as my mom has it.
Christian Jane who was celebrate like god says can get aids on her wedding night.
I WANT to meet the person that feels they do not need a parachute(before he goes up) as that would be the most interesting conversation I will probably ever have.
Forget religion, hes missing out on medical information that has been around for what? 50+ years?

  18. jason says

The homosexual orientation isn’t intrinsically promiscuous but the behavior within the male-male paradigm is. Men are naturally hard-wired to be horny. Put them together, and it takes a lot of mental strength to refuse an advance.

Within the male-female paradigm, you don’t have equally horny individuals; the women act as moderators of sexual excesses.

Promiscuity increases your chances of catching something. It’s a mathematical fait accompli.

  19. TANK says

“The homosexual orientation isn’t intrinsically promiscuous”

Okay. You’ve disagreed with this person on that score, then.

“but the behavior within the male-male paradigm is. Men are naturally hard-wired to be horny.”

That fails to distinguish between male-male, or male-female relationships. If all men are naturally hard-wired to be horny, then that is across the board regardless of sexual orientation, and that’s what you’re stating. Now what is it about being horny that entails promiscuity such that the behavior within male-male relationships is inherently promiscuous? You’re basically making the same invalid argument, because not all male-male relationships are promiscuous, and therefore, according to you, they wouldn’t be male-male relationships…which is false.

“Put them together, and it takes a lot of mental strength to refuse an advance.”

But that’s true of male-female relationships too, for men, if I were to believe what you’re saying (which I don’t).

“Within the male-female paradigm, you don’t have equally horny individuals; the women act as moderators of sexual excesses.”

That’s not true, either. Many men are less horny than their female counterparts, and horniness doesn’t entail promiscuity…which you’re equating.

Ultimately, if you’re making a point about men in general, that fails to distinguish between the intrinsicality of heterosexual or homosexual relationships.

  20. jason says

Men are intrinsically hard-wired to be horny. It’s reflected in the fact that they keep producing sperm into their 90’s. If you put men together with men, it doubles the horny factor. In such circumstances, unless the men make a moral choice to curtail their sexual behavior, promiscuous behavior is prevalent.

I do, however, agree with the poster who pointed out the hypocrisy of Christians in wanting to stop us from getting married. There’s a moral inconsistency in the Christian viewpoint: on the one hand, they use the promiscuity charge to batter us but, on the other, they want to stop us from forming faithful vows. There’s a moral inconsistency within the Christian viewpoint.

The other moral inconsistency is in the Christian viewpoint regarding female homosexuality. Did you know that the Bible only forbade male homosexuality, and not female homosexuality? This double standard proves that the Bible was written by morally inconsistent patriarchal males who didn’t want their lesbian-watching fetishes impeded.

  21. TANK says

Okay. Since it’s a grammar issue, and may or may not be a substantive one at this point (and according to my favorite person, all disputes are linguistic…and I disagree, but he’s still my favorite person even though I never met him), allow me to clear some confusion about what you’re trying to get across, Jason: the bisexual double standard person. Seriously, if you’re bisexual, just embrace it and live out loud as life’s too short to listen to what most people have to say about this or that (viz. biphobia)…and disregard what anyone says…except me. You don’t have to be a nutter, jason…well, maybe you do, but there are always wonderful medications to take that can correct that happiness diminishing quality ;).

First, assuming the truth of intrinsic human nature (which I do), it isn’t intrinsic that men were programmed (through mindless evolutionary process) to be promiscuous, but rather that promiscuity is intrinsic in men. Though you probably don’t understand, it’s a big difference… Anyway, that seems to be the evolutionary psychology that the likes of Dan Savage is smitten with given his choices and evo pop of popular choice.

It seems that you’re operating under a different definition of intrinsic than I am. Intrincality in terms of groups is, say, a property that all members share necessarily (even individuals–what makes a person that person are properties or a property that it has and no one else does, and moreso, cannot). That is, it is inconceivable that someone be a member of a group and not have that property. A statistical norm fails completely in discerning “intrinsicality,” for one exception to it renders the “norm” non-intrinsic. So if one gay men weren’t promiscuous (and I’m one of them, goddamnit! I don’t fuck unless I care about the person I’m fucking…that wasn’t always the case….sex is more than something else to do for me, but one of the most profound personal expressions), it isn’t intrinsic, for it doesn’t uniquely identify the group in question.

Now, whether men do or don’t have the tendency toward promiscuity (tendency is always cashed out in terms of actual behavior), given an evolutionary explanation, has no bearing whatsoever on the intrinsic nature of male-male gay relationships, since it doesn’t distinguish between orientation. And this even though over fifty per cent of all gay relationships are “open” (whatever that means…a discussed and agreed to commitment to having sex with people other than the two in that relationship, for example…or just cheating). So you can’t very well go from saying that because all men have this propensity, that it is intrinsic (or specific to) to gay men, because it just distinguishes men regardless of orientation. And secondly, if one man (gay or straight) didn’t have this propensity, it’s not intrinsic…but rather, a useful evolutionary explanation…which need not concern itself with intrinsicality (a largely logical creation) at all. Rather, jettisoning the word intrinsic (I like it, but as a former aspiring logician, it has a signficance/sense/meaning totally different from the one relevant to evolutionary psychology), one can say that men are “hardwired” to engage in promiscuous behavior…which isn’t intrinsic to male-male relationships, but all relationships involving males…and, in fact, isn’t intrinsic at all if one male didn’t have this propensity. QED…that means that you’re wrong in my people’s language…the kind that have nothing better to do on a firday night. Oy!

  22. EM says

    Another bright spark.

I wonder how he explains ‘god’s plan’ for little girls that get raped by their own fathers, or cancer affecting babies of a few months old or kids born with debilitating diseases. Is this ‘god’s plan’ as well?

He is too stupid to live.

  23. says

If HIV and AIDS is “Gods” punishment for homosexuality, then why are so many straight people infected with HIV or AIDS? Don’t you think “God” would have protected them from it?

Could it be that it is a disease that effects everyone the same regardless of their sexuality, race, gender, age…HIV is an equal opportunity disease! It doesn’t discriminate.

  24. Jerry6 says

OK, so God gave AIDS to Gays as punishment for homosexuality. I’ll buy that, if you can tell me what the Straits who were given AIDS by that same God were doing to deserve getting it?

  25. Martin Sasko says

For a group of humans created by God in His image, we surely do not procreate….why is our population growing? As for intrinsically promiscuous… Adultery is promiscuity and the same biblical quotes that supposedly Condemn me to hell also say that as a man lys with a woman, that is marraige. If she were not a virgin, that man just commited adultery. The Biblical referance need NOW is “judge not, lest ye be judged”

  26. says

Gay promiscuity combined with anal sex are killers. We’ve known this for 30 years. Duh! If it was a straight disease millions of men and women in the USA would be HIV+ by now.

  27. LGA says

Miss CMH.That was a low blow BITCH..I guess God likes whites???? That’s why they’re (white hetreo’s)are castigating the Gay Community?

Here are 2 more poems I just finished entitled: WHAT GOD DID FOR ME – (homosexuality from the heart)

This is the older poem – THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID.

These are very important videos for this age of confusion and sexual blindness.

It helps reveal a much needed Truth.
