Joint Chiefs Chairman Stands By DADT Repeal, Pentagon Review

6a00d8341c730253ef0134821671e0970c-250wi Admiral Mike Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, restated last night that he personally supports a repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, although only after an officially Pentagon review has been completed.

"I am very clear where I was on February 2 and where I am today," the venerated military leader said on Monday, reiterating a statement he made earlier this year.

"This is my personal view. I struggled greatly with the fact that we asked people in an institution that values integrity, which is who we are, that we would ask individuals to show up everyday and basically lie. So my position on that hasn't changed at all."

Mullen made sure to point out, however, that he wants the Pentagon, and then Congress, to lead the way on the matter, rather than just going for a willy-nilly repeal.

"If I could pick, and I can't, the way this would happen I would like to finish the review and have the review then inform the legislative process," explained Mullen. "I'm not in charge of the legislative process. It is really up to Congress to move that through."

Yeah, because they're doing such a great job.

  1. Well. If the military was so truly dedicated to making sure all procedures are really and truly followed, they might have found out that there really weren't any WMDs in Iraq before all those lives were sacrificed unnecessarily.

  2. You're confusing the military with the CIA, Roscoe.

  4. If the Pentagon give a ringing full endorsement of repeal, which they WON'T, the Republican controlled House of Representatives, in spite of all of their "do what the Pentagon wants" posturing, will NEVER repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell.

That is precisely why they planned for the Pentagon review to be completed one month AFTER the midterm elections.

This is all a disgusting show of smoke and mirrors.

DADT won't be repealed, the Democrats will claim that they tried but their hands were tied and the Republicans will crow that they've saved the military from the sodomites to endear themselves to their homophobic base. EVERYONE wins but gay people. Just as it's always been and just as our country likes it.

    Democrats/Republicans ALL suck!
