Obama on Critics: 'They Talk About Me Like a Dog'

Discussing his $50 billion jobs initiative, Obama veered from the teleprompter to address his critics in a Labor Day speech in Milwaukee.

CNN's take: "The line was a rare departure from a president who normally sticks close to the text of his speech and may forecast a more aggressive tone on the part of Obama as the midterms approach."

CBS News: "White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said today he had not spoken with Mr. Obama about the 'dog' remark. He added, however, 'If you look at some of what is said about the president and match them up against the facts, on occasion dogs get better representation.'"

Two months before the midterms, poll numbers for Obama and the Democrats are looking grim:

"Two months before the 2010 midterm elections, likely voters now favor the Republican over the Democratic candidate in their congressional district by 53-40 percent, the widest GOP margin on record in ABC News/Washington Post polls since 1981... majority, 52 percent, now disapproves of the way Obama is handling his job overall, another first in ABC/Post polls. Intensity increasingly is against him, with those who disapprove 'strongly' outnumbering strong approvers by 14 points. A record 57 percent rate him negatively on handling the economy, "strongly" so by an even wider margin, 2-1."

  1. Well, Mr. President, let's review the facts. You haven't lived up to your campaign promises for being a "fierce advocate" of LGBT civil rights. Your administration vigorously defends DADT and DOMA. Your health care reform is so watered down. We're still pouring billions into a stupid, unpopular war in Afghansitan that you pledged to end. GITMO is still open. You have a bunch of Bush appointee, Wall Street hacks running your economic agenda. You continue to cater to right wing interests who will never support or vote for you and you've thrown much of your loyal base under the bus. And you wonder why people talk about you like a dog?!

  2. Amen, Brad!

What's worse: being talked about like a dog, or being kicked like a stray as he has done to us?

  3. Looks like somebody just found his balls. Hope he starts using them.

  4. Your dept of justice likened my gay relationship to that of incestuous pedophiles and I'm STILL a second class citizen in my own country.. something you defend in court quite viciously.

"Dog" is too good a label for you, fuckface.

  5. Well, if it barks like a dog, wags like a dog, pees on gay rights like a dog, and is in many ways as crooked as a dog's hind legs - I'd say it's a dog.

The other clip I heard from this speech is where he claimed to have revamped the nation's financial system to stop the wholesale looting of the middle class in favor of the rich. Apparently, he said this with a straight face.

I don't totally loathe the man, and i AM fond of dogs - so perhaps the analogy is fitting.

  6. The healthcare bill is historic, every democratic president since Truman and republican Nixon has tried to get a health bill. It's watered down because we don't live in a totalitarian state. He had to cave in for dems in centrists states. He's not a DICTATOR idiots.

What would you like Obama to do at this point on gay rights other than an executive order on DADT discharges, the process is taking place and the law will be repealed this year.

He's asked congress to abolish the DOMA; he will sign into law any pro gay rights legislation that comes across his desk.

Brad and others just want to set up a straw man and put all of their disappointment in the state of gay equality into the President.

Very childish and silly. No understanding of what public sentiment is or the political process.

Tea Party gays from the left.

  7. Don't waste your energy typing any kind of reason Brian in Texas. Straw men are the name of the game around here. Small steps and forward movement = No steps at all. LGBT promises unfulfilled within some arbitrary time frame = Actively lying about promises or aggressively breaking promises in ALL facets of American life.

  8. Brian in Tex-ass:

Did your vision of health care "reform" include Obama making secret (and then blown) deals with big pharma and insurance to kill any possibility of a Public option in exchange for campaign support in 2010/2012? That's what happened.

On DADT he handed off all veto power for the decision WHETHER to repeal DADT (not when, IF) to the very bigots who do not want it repealed.. who then concocted a rigged study filled with the most obvious language designed to generate ONE possible outcome: gays make soldiers feel icky and will hurt unit cohesion. On top of that, Obama didn't even have the sack to issue a temporary stop-loss order halting the discharges till the issue was settled.

On DOMA,nothing has happened. He has done ZERO, nada, zip. He has not pushed for it, like most everything else on his apparently too full plate. It's not even on his stupid Presidential webpage anymore. It's not even whispered about. Simply saying "I'll sign shit that comes across my desk" IS NOT FUCKING LEADERSHIP, it's sitting there and doing NOTHING.. much like he did with the Hate Crimes bill, something he had no hand in crafting and that was a done deal but boy.. did he sure claim that one as an accomplishment for himself. All he did was sign the fucking thing.

Now take your little bag of DNC propaganda and lies and fuck off.

  9. Brian in Texas: The only reason I disagree with you is that Obama's official stance on gay marriage is that marriage is between a man and a woman. He's said it time and again. I think that he completely ignores the gays in order to disassociate himself with us because he thinks that it would fuel fire for the right if he didn't. The outcome is, though, that we lack him as an advocate for our rights.

    It's disappointing.

    Posted by: Randy | Sep 7, 2010 3:07:07 PM

  10. So you want President Obama to hinge his entire presidency and program to gay rights legislation that he doesn't entirely have control over? That makes no sense politically.

The last president proposed a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as between a man and a woman and got reelected by Ohio voters largely on that issue.

Clinton FAILED on DADT and healthcare reform, he tried to shove it down the military's throat and didn't bring the obvious players in the health industry to the table, so why wouldn't Obama go a different route to achieve those goals?

Trust me I am no log cabin republican and I am not GOProud...but I'm a realist and I don't believe in cutting off my nose to spite my face.

Obama is not the enemy; you're railing against him only serves to fuel the likes of Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin and the jews for hitler log cabin republicans/GOProud.

Kennedy was for equality for blacks, but he didn't come into office and make that a focal point of his administration. He brought Martin Luther King to the table and leveled with him, and knew he had to work those promises in a very calculated manner. He was killed, and Johnson finished the job.

Love it or hate it thats the way politics work in this country.

Posted by: Brian in Texas | Sep 7, 2010 3:24:17 PM

  11. Randy: It's totally disappointing that our "fierce advocate" President thinks gays aren't worthy of marriage. However, he's held that stance since his Presidential Campaign and many of us still voted for him. A year and a half in, we're still expressing our disapproval of his beliefs. I've long stopped wondering what that says about him. I'm more interested in what it says about *us*.

    Posted by: Damien | Sep 7, 2010 3:29:23 PM

  12. @ Randy

The only reason he says marriage is between a man and a woman is because that is what most main stream American voters believe. It's the easiest position to take to be electable nation wide. Personally he is for gay marriage.

The best we can do now is go out and vote for democrats this Nov 2010 election and champion Obama's reelection in 2012 and he will deliver for us the best he can with the congress he is dealt.

What else are you gonna do? Vote for a tea party candidate?

Yeah you can vote for some fringe third party green candidate but its going to take a generation for that party or vote to matter.

Posted by: Brian in Texas | Sep 7, 2010 3:32:00 PM

  13. Look, Brian has a brain!

The only thing I look forward to if the tea party GOP starts running the country is the reaction of those who got what they wished for.

I imagine repealing DOMA and DADT and all of our ongoing initiatives will just sail through congress once the tea party takes over.

Friends, gay rights won't even be on the radar. We won't be discussing 'when' or 'how' it will happen, suddenly we'll be debating whether or not to privatize social security... again. And all the fun ways to repeal a healthcare bill that hasn't even gone into effect yet.

  14. Comparing this President to a dog is so misguided.

    Dogs tend to be loyal.

  15. Oh gosh, the Brian in TexASS, that's right, is so dilusional it's actually funny.

BRIAN is part of the "The have patience" .,, "It's only been ___ months" ... "He has other problems to solve than GLBT equality" ... "he's playing chess" pathetic crowd.

Reality: Obama is a CORPORATE WHORE and probably a homophobe, too. Not to mention a LIAR.

I voted for him, gave him $$$ and spent time campaigning for him ... for what? A BETRAYAL as a Democrate and American.

    No more!

  17. Sit back at home, or at the bar, come November and do not vote for the Democrats......the Republicans are going to have your gas chambers ready for you.

Most of you guys are short sighted no-nothing sub-literates!

    Posted by: Brains | Sep 7, 2010 7:26:25 PM

  18. To those that think not voting or voting for a Republican is somehow "punishing the Democrats," get real. The only one you'll be punishing is yourself.

The choice is clear: vote for the Democrats who help the LGBT community in a slow but steady pace, or vote to have what little rights you have revoked with the Republicans.

It isn't an exaggeration to say that a good portion of Republicans would send us to concentration camps if they could. Anyway gay person that votes Republican is an idiot.

  21. Are you shitting me? After the way George Bush (who I didn't like and never voted for) was treated LOL? If the president can't take the heat, get the fuck out of the kitchen. ALL presidents are ruthlessly mocked and ridiculed. You start hearing whining like this because the actual substance of what's occurring politically and economically is dismal, and the president shares a lot of the blame and doesn't want to honestly face reality, so he and his handlers are resorting to woe is me whining.

The presidents administration is anyways about to become a minority government when the Democrats get ass raped in the midterm national elections in Nov. Then he'll be able to shift blame for shit onto the Republicans in the house and senate, which will actually be a big face-saving out for him and his government...the same way Republicans are now blaming the president and Democrats for all the shit. It's easier and more fun to be on the outside looking in than actually ruling.

    Posted by: ratbastard | Sep 8, 2010 2:35:11 AM

  22. moshi:

Are you talking about things that occurred in a few deep south states and ended a half century ago? A half century in which laws have existed in the U.S. that actually legally discriminate against whites (mostly of course 'lower class' socio-economically whites....the wealthy powerful ruling class whites talk big but make sure they and theirs don't suffer) whites? Even Asians in things like school admissions.

Give it a fucking rest Moshi...get some new material, your shit isn't's decomposing.

  23. "Black jesus" (hey, his campaign staffers called him that due to his extremely big ego) doesn't like it when people criticize him. A lot of the criticism obama's getting, however, is unjustifiable crackpottery, and it IS rooted in an admixture of a hatred of democratic politics and race...I'm referring to tea partier types, who are corporate funded (re: koch brothers) useful idiots, actively opposing their best interest.

However, his impotence on lgbt issues (among many other so-called "niche" interests) is justifiably criticized.

EITHER WAY BITCH GO TELL YOUR MOTHER GIVE IT REST.......She brought you here I would have aborted you bitch

And this didn't occur in a few states. It happened in the South period and where are you getting your cracker barrel facts from your white bf as he stuffing his dick down your throat calling you every negative epithet there is while you're choking on it.

Fag get on somewhere I am NOT THE ONE! You sorry excuse for a RATBASTARD!

  25. Moshi,

You can take the [censored] out of the south, but you can't take the south out of the [censored]

....'cracker' is a southern pejorative 9along with stuff like addressing an adult man as 'boy' or 'son')... not used where I come from Moshi...we don't eat grits and chitlans either, sunshine.
