Equality NC Plans 'Froot Loops' Protest For Anti-Gay Pol

Frootloops Taking on anti-gay activists can become a bit of a drag: you call, you write, you email, and yet you hear nothing. Boring.

Well, in the wake of North Carolina State Rep. Larry Brown's recent homophobic email in which he called gay people "queers" and "fruit loops," LGBT group Equality NC has announced it will make activism a bit more fun by bringing Brown a box of Froot Loops cereal and a personalized note for every donation over $5 received between today and next Monday, October 11th.

"It’s a fun way to get the message across that this is not acceptable from a legislator," said the group's executive director, Ian Palmquist.

The group has already raised more than $2,000 since announcing its cereal-centric tactic, and any food Brown turns away will be donated to a local food shelter.

So, just to get this straight: a five-buck donation yields a stern, yet enjoyable disapproval of Brown's homophobia and could help feed a hungry American. What could be better?

  1. Fun! What a lame comment from an elected official. I gave a few bucks to suppose Equality NC and get a box of cereal sent!

  2. 'Cause I always knew Toucan Sam was gay anyhow! And as part of the "Gay Agenda TM", we deliver!

    Cue the FoF boycot... 3... 2... 1...

  3. Yeah, that's exactly what we need: a fun way to get the message across. This is the stupidest, most embarrassing activism I have ever heard of. How about beat the shit out of him while he's walking down the street. That sounds like fun

  4. What a stupid waste of anger. This jerk is going to laugh his ass off. It will simply confirm his opinion that gay people are nothing more than a bunch of clowns and undeserving of his respect. I can hear this douche bag right now saying to himself that boxes of Fruitloops proves that we deserve his respect. Equality NC needs to organize a sit in in his office and maybe get some folks arrested. Show some fucking balls. Show the world that he is contemptible.

  5. Seriously, when are we going to start picketing over at Logo for airing that offensive "QUEER as Folk" show. There's also that web site QUEERty.com - maybe we should boycott their advertisers. As long as "we" use the word, "they'll" use it. We have no right to be offended by that word. Fruitloops - yes.

  6. Fruit loops would be fun to throw at gay weddings!

  7. Did they analyze the cost of this? They'll barely break even. Cereal is expensive.

  8. So far that's 400 boxes... what they should do is EMPTY all the boxes in his office for him and his staff to clean up... now THAT would make a big impact.

  9. Let's boycott Kellogg's and force them to make a statement about an elected official using their product name as an insult. Our most powerful tools will always be our wallets.

  10. "food" is a great euphemism for corporate-made breakfast cereals.

  11. Yes Dave, lets force a company, whose name likeness is being tainted by a bigot, to release a statement by boycotting them for no reason. You sir, are an Idiot.

Anywho, this is a fun idea. But it's a recession, gonna keep my six dollars.

  12. So he may end up with a lifetime supply of free cereal. His grandkids will love it. Or he can sell it on e-bay, or hold a cereal sale at church and donate the money to his next crazy campaign.
I don't know. If my political opponents were to send me free cereal, I can't say I'd be sorry for anything I'd done to instigate it.

  13. A box of Froot Loops? Why waste your money? Just go to the poles and vote for whatever person is running against him.

  14. Well, if we lack the impetus to knock his teeth out (metaphorically speaking), then rotting them out shall have to suffice.

  15. "As long as "we" use the word, "they'll" use it."

Actually, "they'll" call us "queers" no matter what we do. The word is hateful, ignorant and disrespectful when anybody uses it.
