1. Cocoa says

*hugs Barney Frank* That was the most dramatic gasp I have heard in some time, and it was so good at proving a point. Oh wait, he goes on past the gasp?

Hahahahaha! I love this man. I may just need to send him flowers for helping put that stupid argument where it belongs: in the trash.

  2. TampaZeke says

That fact will not change with the repeal of DADT.

I would also like to point out that it is STRAIGHT men, not gay men, who INSIST on public, open showers.

  3. Paul R says

He’s quoting the Pentagon report pretty much verbatim, but I love how he gets in the guy’s face about it.

I know there are lots of Barney haters on this site, and events like this prove why they’re wrong. Year after year, he is voted by his colleagues and Congressional staff as the smartest member of the House.

  4. Nanny McBone says

Does CNS really consider that to be a valid question to ask? Please keep asking the dumb questions CNS. It will only make you appear more stupid and bigoted than the majority now realize that you are.

  5. Jeff Kurtti says

Why would the CSN put up a report that makes their reporter look so idiotic and biased, and makes Barney Frank look so intellectually and morally superior?

  6. Matt says

I’m amazed. I find Mr. Frank to often be a poor spokesman for our community. But this time he hit a home run. The only thing better he could have added is that if they don’t want to shower with homosexuals, then they also shouldn’t attend public OR private high schools. Because we are even there, and always have been.

  7. says

When did Barney Frank sew the “spokesman” button to his lapel? This is what irks me about minority communities: they feel like anyone in power “like them” has to represent “them” in all circumstances. That is insulting; the gay community is diverse, and includes many people who wholeheartedly disagree with Frank’s political views. You probably find him a poor spokesman for “our community” because he isn’t one; he is a spokesman for Massachusetts’ 4th congressional district.

  8. Matt says

@Jeff Kurtti above: The reason they would put this on the air is that they are another Faux News operation. I quote from their web site:

was launched on June 16, 1998 as a news source for individuals, news organizations and broadcasters who put a higher premium on balance than spin and seek news that’s ignored or under-reported as a result of media bias by omission.

Study after study by the Media Research Center, the parent organization of, clearly demonstrate a liberal bias in many news outlets – bias by commission and bias by omission – that results in a frequent double-standard in editorial decisions on what constitutes “news.”

Now as we all know, there is no such liberal bias in the media, in fact, the bias is overwhelmingly corporatist conservative. So their entire purpose for existence is to be more conservative than the broader media.

Their founder is a nephew of William F. Buckley, and the son of an outspoken Catholic Conservative and advertising executive. They are well versed in producing PROPAGANDA, which is what this clip is meant to be. To any intelligent, or even most any educated (there is a difference), person this is a smack down by Barney Frank. But to the vast masses out there, this is still “OMG, They’ll have to shower with Gays?”

  9. Brad says

There’s a couple of guys in my gym that shower in their shorts. (rolling my eyes). If straight guys think that makes them “manly” they only succeed at looking ridiculous.

  10. walter says

the reporter probably gets dressed in the closet where he spends a good deal of time.
he thinks because he peeks everyone does. wtf is a cns anyway. too many news services for the public good and if this the quality of reporting hopefully it won’t be around for long.

  11. Frozen North says

“this reminds me of the dudes at the gym who will not take their towels off of them to change. they look ridiculous and often fall. why the paranoia?”

“There’s a couple of guys in my gym that shower in their shorts”

Funny. At the gyms I’ve attended, there are guys who wear glasses into the showers; guys who spend 30 minutes in the shower; guys who take 5-10 showers within an hour; and guys who take 30 minutes to get dressed after showering.

Gee, I wonder why those other guys are so paranoid. Oh wait, who looks ridiculous again?

  12. says

I flashed back to John Amechis (sp?) book where he wrote about observing locker room behavior in the NBA as a closted gay man. The ‘straight’ macho players (according to him) behaved 180 deg opposite their public personas…trying on each other’s new shoes, admiring physiques etc.

Barney did an excellent job handling this bigoted little fool.

  13. Justin Werner says

Aside from appreciating Frank working over the reporter like a dog worrying a rat, I have to wonder. How did a reporter this inept get his job? Granted Barney Frank is an experienced in-fighter, but the reporter just stood there like a deer in the headlights and never really did recover. It was actually quite beautiful to see.

  14. justme says

I don’t have a spokesman, thanks, I can do my own talking — but if Barney Frank ever wanted the job, he could have it. This interview is nothing new; he’s done great things and spoken well for decades. How many people live and die without contributing one good thing to the world? Barney Frank is a hero, plain and simple.

  15. Gianpiero says

The way Frank tells him, “That’s a non-issue,” is a great example of how to deliver that line in response to our opponents’ baseless fears and ridiculous lies.

  16. says

That reporter is not a conservative.

He is a theocrat as he wishes to force a narrow, bigoted, twisted destructive worldview on everyone.

    They are the American Taliban.

True conservatives are neither for or against gays in the military or “gay marriage” because TRUE conservatives support and defend the Constitution and there is nothing in the Constitution that allows the government to define marriage or keep gays from serving on the military.

  17. Scott says

“There’s a couple of guys in my gym that shower in their shorts.”

Maybe they are never nudes. Anyway, it’s always fun to see someone eviscerate the stupid as Frank does in this interview.

  18. yaaah69 says

If I remember right it was the so called straights who checked everyone out at the showers , just a glance , but some of the jocks would stare longer and have something to say about it. It was fun seeing those guys check out everyone!!

  19. says

I was lucky enough to see the actual survey questions and answers directly after the DADT ceremony yesterday in the basement in one of the Smithsonian buildings. It showed clearly that none of these made up issues is actually any issue at all. The survey was three huge phone book size events with several smaller ones, so, no one will ever be able to say it wasn’t thorough.

Here’s my video with Barney from the ceremony along with most of the major DADT players.
