Watch: GOProud's Chris Barron Says Conservatives Support Gays Despite Exodus from CPAC

Barron

MSNBC's Cenk Uygur speaks with GOProud's Chris Barron again about additional defections from CPAC such as NJ Governor Chris Christie and Rep. Jim DeMint (R-SC), asking Barron why GOProud continues to associate with groups that don't like them because they're gay.

Spits Barron: "I know that you hate the fact that there are gay conservatives. I know you can't stand the fact that there is a group of people that have wandered off the liberal plantation, that don't play your victim identity politics."

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

  2. You know, it's the liberal media who rare OBSESSED with giving this guy and Sarah Palin a platform.

It's ironic because every other day they say how much they despise the liberals, yet, we're the only ones who actually bother to invited them to talk about ANYTHING, mainly their rightwing agenda.

They aren't a gay group, get over liberal America. What are you trying to justify by keep on interviewing them? Furthermore, this guy isn't that bright, all he says is the same things-borrring.

And he's never given any good arguments. I have to say pundits in the US are pretty sh*t. We have Jeremy Paxman here but I dont even know if you have anyone that puts in a decent argument.

The basis of Barrons arguments are based on lies. What victims? When did any GOP representative push for anything in congress? The only thing they push for is to stop any gay rights bills. End of.

How can they even try and compare to the Democrats?

The only thing this pundit needs to say is this. What is the point of you? Why does the right need another group when EVERYONE is pretty much right wing in the USA? The churches, the evangelists, fox news etc?

You've had 8 years of Bush Chris and you thought that was so great that only 2 years of Obama has you froffing in the mouth?

    Are you mentally ill?

All that needs to be said to this creep.

  3. i don't care one way or another if you are conservative or not, but I'm worried that goproud is going to be asked to wait in the gas chamber while their concerns are discussed. i don't think conservative and gay will ever be bedfellows. why don't they break away from the rebullycans? Did he say 'death tax'? Jeez. Hope he's never in a situation where he is denied access to his lover, health benefits, marriage, etc. He should be an anchor on fox news. How can someone support an organization that wants them back in the closet? He didn't have the opportunity to be an out politico due to the actions of conservative drag queens back at stonewall. his visibility today is due to the political activism of his gay brothers and sisters who fought and died for him to be able to do what he does now. It's a strange backlash. What is there to be proud of in the name goproud? If he was equal in the eyes of the law, he'd be easier to take. But the fact is, he's consorting with the 'enemy'. the enemy of equal rights. were there blacks back in the early civil rights days who spoke against desegregation? Who wanted to go along with big daddy? jim crow? i really have a hard time understanding the psychology of goproud people. it's like being gay and being against being gay at the same time. weird "externalized" homophobia.

  4. Chris Barron is five years old. He plays pretend. Pretend I'm a republican...when in fact, in reality, they hate me and won't let me in their club. You can call yourself an elephant but if you're really a horse's ass, you're a horse's ass, Mr. Barron.

It's pitiful to listen to this man. He simply ignores fact and pretends. All hyperbole aside (and face it, that's all he's got...liberal plantation -- ain't that a mix of metaphors and only points up the hateful lie even more, dilluting his point further...) this man and whom ever else is in this group like Ken Melhman, should step out of whatever myopic chasm they are stuck in and look at the landscape of the Republican party. Boys, ask yourselves one thing...how many Republicans in the House or Senate would actually sit down with you and discuss pro-gay issues? If the answer is less than 25%, you have your answer. And the answer is maybe 4%. And that would only be to tell you to f*ck off.

You can have conservative values and be a Democrat. But you can't be openly gay and expect to be accepted by today's Republicans. That's reality. The rest is pretend.

  5. @Rowan - I'm guessing maybe you're a foreigner or expat? The United States as a whole is very divided; it's the MEDIA that is corporate-owned conservative. Don't confuse what less than 1% of the country is loudly proclaiming with the what the rest of the nation is thinking.

We are not all dumb sheep.

  6. Time out. A couple points: Britain has a thriving gay Tory community. If that's Barron's vision for the GOP then we're all well served. In the meantime, I have to applaud him for inciting a civil war among the conservative movement.

  7. My, my, talk about wandering off someone's plantation. Chris Barron just doesn't get it. The vast majority of Repuggies hate the GLBT community and want absolutely NOTHING to do with us (unless it's overseeing shipping us all outside the US or, as some have suggested, putting us to death). It does look like this year's CPAC is turning into the "Very Lonely Chris Barron Show".

  8. Narcissistic Personality Disorder can only explain the elitist scum that is GOProud or any Gay Republican in 2011.

    Poor sad dangerous fools.

  9. I think we should just ignore this Tom.

  10. Let’s hope that if he has a partner, he’s never denied visitation rights should anything… unfortunate… come to pass. Then again, maybe that’s why he’s so interested in the estate tax instead:

    1. Shack up with someone rich and become a beneficiary.
    2. Bump him off and won’t/can’t visit.
    3. Pay no taxes. (i.e., Profit!!!)

  11. it is simple

he and repub gays hate brown people

maybe 1 is in the top 1% economically but all the rest just hate brown people thus why they let the repub party slap them around

  12. PS

    @ anyway

LOL british torries are not like US repubs

british torries are more like conservedems = obama and clinton

conservatives in europe and canada are too liberal for US repubs

  13. Of course, being separatists is always progressive. **double eyeroll**

    Let me get this:

We can't eat Chik-fil-a because they fed some Republicans, but we should shop at Wallyworld over Target even though they've destroyed every small town in America.

And we have to protest Red State mentality in the US meanwhile we can drive gas guzzling Audis tho buying their gas puts money in the pockets of homosexual killing and women brutalizing Sheiks.

    Yep, sounds about right.

  14. i keep having flashbacks of dick cheney speaking in front of a Heritage Foundation backdrop. chris barron and the cheney's have no souls.

  15. @ Anemone:

He doesn't have a partner: no self-respecting gay man will date him. I'm not being snarky here, either. The little idiot has been complaining for years that nobody will go out with him for a second date when they find out his politics and the group to which he belongs.

    Posted by: Rich | Jan 25, 2011 10:11:49 AM

  16. @Christmas Grinch - My Audi gets 33MPG highway, excellent mileage, not even close to "gas guzzling", so Audi was an odd example. CAFE ratings (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) are considerably worse for brands like Chrysler and Subaru, who are on the bottom.

Oh and Chris Barron is delusional. Why not be an independent?

    Posted by: Ian | Jan 25, 2011 10:55:23 AM

  17. I'm sure that all the virulently anti-gay Republicans featured on Towleroad today--doing everything they possibly can to set back our civil rights progress in IA/DC etc. etc.--will give poor Chris a big hug and turn their homophobia around as soon as they receive that lost memo of how supportive they are of gay rights.

The saddest thing about Chris is that he believes we see him as some kind of threat rather than as simply pathetic.

    Posted by: Ernie | Jan 25, 2011 10:59:37 AM

  18. Why not be an indie? Because then Barron would not be getting the attention he obviously desperately craves.

Posted by: Chris Gable | Jan 25, 2011 12:11:55 PM

  19. Poor Chris, he's just so deluded. I hope some day he does get over his horrible lack of self esteem and stop kissing the ass of Ann Coulter and John Cornyn.

    Posted by: Daniel | Jan 25, 2011 12:13:05 PM

  20. Isn't it time to ignore this idiot? (I'm a little tired about this self-righteous white guy getting so much attention when he represents a thimble full of people...)

    Posted by: TonyJ | Jan 25, 2011 12:15:08 PM

  21. The only reasonable justification for being in the GOP is that it is better to have someone inside the tent, than outside. But Barron never makes that argument. In fact, having some representation at Republican meetings is better than having none at all. At least the GOP can't deny our existence.

But Barron's defense is laughable. The DADT bill was one of the most important pieces of gay legislation in history. And where were the Republicans on that? Enough said.

  22. But he's got abs and stuff. Works out. So if he's got a good bod (face looks a little strokey, but that's what paper bags are for), who cares what he says?

    Posted by: TANK | Jan 25, 2011 1:27:00 PM

  23. Look at the quality of comments coming from loyal Towleroad readers. Who wouldn't want to be a liberal when you can be in such company?

    Posted by: Tim | Jan 25, 2011 2:41:46 PM

  24. that man is an idiot.

    Posted by: ... | Jan 25, 2011 2:47:25 PM

  25. Chris Barron is a pretty version of Ann Coulter. He's playing up the crazy to get attention (and its working).
