Cyndi Lauper Mentors Gay Teen Eli Medina on MTV's 'Made'

Tune in to MTV's Made today at 4 pm EST (repeating Wednesday at 3) for an episode about Eli Medina, a gay teen from Norman, Oklahoma who is living on his own after his mother rejected him for telling her he is gay.

If you've never seen Made, it's an Emmy-winning aspirational reality show about high school kids who want to transform themselves into something better. It's Eli's dream to be a "diva superstar". Unfortunately, he's too shy to sing in front of others. With the help of Cyndi Lauper and Made coach singer Jeremiah Abiah, Eli finds the strength to conquer his fears.

Lauper also asked Eli to participate in a video for her "We Give a Damn" organization which highlights LGBT issues in a series of web videos.

Check out two previous Made episodes about gay teens here and here.

  1. I love MADE. It's such a great show compared to some of the other trash on mtv.

  2. That child is beautiful and that man is a born coach. I hope Eli has a lot of people taking care of him. Working with Cyndi Lauper is wonderful, but it can also be overwhelming for a troubled teen. Looks like he's in great hands, though.

  3. Oklahoma's a hell of a lot easier for gay kids now than it was when I was growing up in the 80s, but it's still remarkably tough. I feel for the kid and send good karma his way.

  9. Eli was amazing. Norman doesn't deserve him, but it's better because of him.

  10. "It's Eli's dream to be a 'diva superstar'."

That's America's dream. The country, and Eli, need to grow up.

  11. WHAT is wrong with people???? His mother doesn't deserve to be called 'mother'. She would cast her own child off just because she doesn't like what he is. Just because you push out a baby doesn't mean you're fit to raise it.

  13. I'm a grandma that love watching Made because the show gives hope to kids growing up. I like Eli's story and can't understand why his mother like, disowned him just because he is gay and probably worry more about what other people say about his son's sexuality. She should be proud to have a son who is not on drugs or doing crimes, and is very talented.Being gay should not change a mother's love toward her children.Good luck, Eli and hope for your success and happiness.
