Dozens Reported Dead in Terrorist Explosion at Moscow Airport

UPDATE: Here's video of the airport shortly after the explosion - warning, extremely grim.

Reports of at least 31 dead and perhaps hundreds injured are coming out of Moscow following an explosion at the international arrivals hall at Domodedovo airport.

The Guardian has a live updates page here....

BBC: "Russia's chief investigator said the explosion was the work of terrorists, and President Dmitry Medvedev said the attackers would be tracked down. The airport is 40km (25 miles) south-east of the city centre. It is popular with foreign workers and tourists. In the aftermath of the blasts, Mr Medvedev ordered increased security across Russia's capital and at other airports, and called an emergency meeting with top officials."

Here's the BBC's live text commentary...

  1. It's quite likely terrorists from Chechnya -- and though I'm against the notion of terrorism, what Russia has done to those people is inexcusable and one of the worst, ongoing tragedies on earth. They've fundamentally destroyed that country over and over again, with a history of forced migration and brutal warfare meant to destroy the will of those people to fight back.

  2. And this won't put a stop to it, ryan. Terrorists need dead for whatever reason. Here's hoping those responsible and everyone they know are destroyed--the very memory of their existence extinguished.

  3. Wait for it... the talking heads at FAUX News will no doubt blame the gays, somehow.

  4. Whether Fox News will blame gays for the terrorist attack remains to be seen, but the hatred of Fox News among towleroad commenters is so pathological that they couldn't help themselves and brought it up in a thread completely unrelated to the TV channel.

  5. How the world changes, if this happened while the cold war was ongoing the US Press would be reporting the "heroic acts" of the "freedom fighters".

  6. So, in Russia they've ended up with both no freedom and no security. How is that possible?
