NPR: Boehner Hires 'Big-Name Republican Lawyer' to Defend DOMA

House Republicans are expected to file a motion to intervene in Windsor v. United States of America at some point today, NPR reports:

Windsor "One GOP source told NPR that Boehner has enlisted a big-name Republican lawyer to argue for the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA."

In mid-March, an attorney in Edie Windsor's challenge to DOMA in the state of New York received a copy of an order given to House Speaker John Boehner giving Congress until April 18 to intervene in that case.

  1. I'm sorry, Bo(eh)ner but the only "big-name Republican lawyer" is already on our side. Mr. Ted Olson.

So suck on it, and way to CUT spending by spending to defend a clearly unconstitutional law.

Take note, all you independent voters and teabaggers. House Republicans are SPENDING taxpayers $$$$ for something that does not create jobs.

  2. Well, there you go - the repugs **are** focusing on job-creation: they did not say "jobS", after all...or that it would be a useful job.

  3. That's a beautiful video. It's a real story. We really exist. We're really standing up and defending ourselves when we and those we love are attacked.

And the phobes can't stand this.

  7. Appalling that Boehner wants to put so much effort into destroying the lives of citizens he's supposed to work for. Not to mention the insane cost of the lawyer he's chosen. Edie's story goes to the heart of this struggle and I can't believe Boehner wants so badly to hurt this woman with this sweet story.
