White House Releases Long-Form Obama Birth Certificate

Bc

President Obama today released his long-form birth certificate, the document so-called "birthers" have been demanding to see from the beginning of his presidency.

The White House writes, in a blog post:

In 2008, in response to media inquiries, the President’s campaign requested his birth certificate from the state of Hawaii. The state sent the campaign the President’s birth certificate, the same legal documentation provided to all Hawaiians as proof of birth in state, and the campaign immediately posted it on the internet. That birth certificate can be seen here (PDF).

When any citizen born in Hawaii requests their birth certificate, they receive exactly what the President received. In fact, the document posted on the campaign website is what Hawaiians use to get a driver’s license from the state and the document recognized by the Federal Government and the courts for all legal purposes. That’s because it is the birth certificate. This is not and should not be an open question.

The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn’t good for the country. It may have been good politics and good TV, but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting. President Barack Obama's long form birth certificate can be seen here (PDF).  Correspondence with the Hawaii State Department of Health can be seen here (PDF).

Obama is scheduled to address the media at 9:45 am ET.

  2. Now, I suppose, we'll have to endure all of the breathless reports from the right that this is "clearly Photoshopped".

  3. Of course it won't be enough. The birthers don't really want proof. Just something to scream about. Unfortunately, that is the real problem. Politicos who want to scream instead of address issues!

  5. It doesn't matter what documents or sworn testimony are presented to validate Obama's birthplace. You're dealing with people who are absolutely delusional and need psychiatric counseling, starting with the "billionaire" idiot they call The Donald. Now let's see Trump present a complete forensic accounting of his "billions" and questionable business dealings.

Republicans are disgusting and vile creatures. Birthers are just looking for attention and any excuse to attack this President as illegitimate in either birth or office. The true illegitimacy was the Bush stealing of the WH with the collusion of the Supreme Court and the GOP in 2000. The true illegitimacy are the two wars that that thief and liar involved our country in during his purloined administration. Let's give equal attention to those "conspiracies" now, shall we?

  6. Don't let facts get in the way, Birthers...

  7. Republicans are not disgusting and vile creatures they are by and large average people manipulated and mislead by right wing media outlets, politicians, betrayed by cultural predispositions, and biases that are generations old. Dehumanizing them with such sweeping generalizations doesn't serve anyone's cause.

Mind you, I find their agendas, policies, and the entire governmental and economic paradigm they propose repugnant. I just have a problem with people calling other people dehumanizing names. It has been done to us enough that we should be slow to do it to others.

  10. Kas

U do have a point and I admit to getting caught up in lumping all the average Repub voters with the crazy and their repugnant leaders/politicians

"Modern" Repub politicians (good repubs of longgggg ago eisenhower, teddy R, lincoln, heck Nixon created the EPA so he had redeeming qualities) and policies are repugnant , idiotic, not based in reality, are anti-american, and will be the death of america if allowed free reign

The majority of the average repub voter are fellow americans simply misguided by propaganda , tradition, etc. It is to non-repubs benefit to continue to reach out to them to educate them and treat them with common human decency

The repub politicos though, hell spit on them for the anti-american foolish trash they are :-P

  12. the birthplace thing was just a mask the real reason why some people think he should not be president is because he :

    A. is black
    B. has a muslim middle name
    C. is a democrat

could be worse though he could be a woman or God forbid gay...

  13. So why the mystery?

Obama's been President for 27 months, and only now the White House has released the document that gives the details of his now-obvious birth in Hawaii. The Obama campaign should have released it months ago, instead of spending tons of money and air-time obfuscating and sealing records.

  14. It's a sad commentary on our supposed founding core of "multiculturalism" as a republic that our first Black President must release A BIRTH CERTIFICATE. Most disheartening when one considers into his calculations more pressing global issues. So it's okay to applaud Black Presidents in films and on TV as progressive steps in the demographic/racial wars but it rather not be their generation that produces the first one. This foolery is borne from racism no matter what any disabused birther [most WASPs who by fact largely DID NOT vote for him in the '08 elections] says, full stop.

  15. Does anyone think that this will stop any of the birthers from their craziness.

It suits the purpose of the rightwing to have the birther issue as a distraction for their sheeple from the real issues. . . .so, the Koch brothers, Faux News, Limblow and the rest of the nuthouse will continue this nonsense one way or another.

  16. scratch the surface of any birther and you will find a RACIST. and that is not hurling epithets. it would be the clearest modern-day representation of the term.

  17. Ted B- Obama released his birth certificate in summer 2008. The birthers werent satisfeid this whole time and said they needed a long form certificate. Thats what was released today. Now they're demanding to see his undergrad college transcripts. Because of course, no black man could get into harvard law without affirmative action and Chicago style bribes.

This whole thing is so embarrassing for America. People around the world are laughing at what a joke our country and political system have become. Its sad.

It is called the "Black Tax"

African Americans must go that extra mile be 10x better at the same damn thing to be considered equal

A sad reality that African Americans have had to deal with for a long time

Obama himself back during the campaign hinted at it, that he had to be and do so much more just to be considered equal to whites

  20. wtf will trump have to rant about now? he really can't speak to important issues because i don't think bankruptcy is a solution to the countries economic problems. although that seems to solve his problems. watched the interview with ac trump is just plain rude and boorish. a perfect candidate for the new know nothing party.

  21. I demand the mother's birth certificate and timestamped video of the conception with evidence of it being on American soil!

    Posted by: bah | Apr 27, 2011 10:38:34 AM

  22. Forgive my ignorance, but why is this such an issue about his birth? Surely, there are more important issues the american people have to discuss!

  23. Where was all this fuss when George W. Bush was talking about being Texan? He was born in Connecticut, liar!

  24. The birthers over at fox news site are all calling this a forgery for a variety of different reasons...the fading of the letters prove forgery...his fathers race says African, and that's not a valid race (it is)...no raised seal (there is).

The veil over the racism this birther issue represents is coming off even more

Did you know that native Hawaiians believe that the placenta is a part of the baby, and traditionally plant it with a tree which can then grow alongside the child? If Obama was really born in Hawaii, his placenta should be buried somewhere on the island. SHOW US THE AFTERBIRTH, OBAMA!
