Watch: Man Flies Over Grand Canyon Wearing Jetpack

Jetpack

Swiss "Jetman" Yves Rossy completed an eight-minute flight along the Grand Canyon on Saturday, 200 feet above the canyon rim on the Hualapai reservation, the AP reports:

"A planned Friday flight before reporters was cancelled after Rossy determined it would be too challenging without any practice runs. The Federal Aviation Administration had given Rossy the green light less than an hour before he was scheduled to take flight."

  2. Andy, it may not seem like much, but thanks for the mention that this was on the Hualapai reservation, not just in Arizona. It's rare for people to even notice that we Indians are still here, must less give them explicit mention. Over the years I've been reading this blog, I've noticed that you aren't afraid to link or mention Native stories when they're interesting or intersect with LGBT issues, whereas almost all other sites seem to think that Indians are only historical figures. Thanks.

  3. I was at the Hualapai reserve 2 weeks ago and walked on the Skywalk. Kudos to the Hualapai for creating something much better than just another casino.

  10. Nice. Does it come in black?

Maybe with the optional mini Gatling gun and twin Hellfire missiles.

  11. To Steve: Yes, he has a sponsor. You can read its name on the wings, Breitling, a Swiss watch manufaturer since 1884, the same sponsor Piccard and Jones had for their non-stop balloon flight around the globe in 1999.

  12. Strange and beautiful. Now, how can we weaponize it?

  13. @Bryan -- the Swiss do not weaponize -- they are neutral!
